  • Arriving at DTW from LAX, connection to Amsterdam
    Aug 1, 2014
    2
We are flying from LAX on 3rd Sept 2014 to DTW and have 39 minutes to connect on to flight to Amsterdam. All on the same Delta ticket. Do we need to collect bags or go through immigration/security or can we go straight to the next gate - will 39 mins be enough? Thanks

You do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. All you have to do in DTW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate which will both be on the A concourse of the McNamara Terminal. Yes, you should have enough time if your flight from LAX is on-time.

Thank you very much, that puts my mind at ease!

  • enough time to switch and will checked bag make it onto connecting

will 40 minutes suffice to switch from domestic to international and will checked bag from domestic flight make it onto connecting international flight in the 40 minutes connection?

That depends on which airlines you use. DTW uses the McNamara Terminal exclusively for Delta, Air France & KLM (members of SkyTeam) and the North Terminal forr non-Skky team members. If you need to transfer between terminals your transfer time would be one hour. Transfer within McNamara should be doable within 40 mins; baggage transfer time no problem. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dtw, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Cincinnati (CVG) to Detroit Detroit Metro (DTW)

I have to say this site so far is the best for information on anything flying. I've been through a lot of sites looking but I found more in 5 min here than I have 3 weeks of searching the net else were. We fly into DET from CVG on Canadair CRJ 900. We'll have 55 min once the plane lands to get to our connecting Delta flight to LAS. My wife and I are in our 60s we are seated at the from of the plane. My questions are is Canadair in the same concourse as Delta and is 55 minutes enough for us to exit the pane and get to our Delta flight. We do not have gates or any more information at this time. I've been looking through the internet to understand where Canadair is compared to the Delta hub at DET. Trying to get an idea if I need to be concerned enough to switch flights or not. We had a direct both ways but have been bounced more times than my sons soccer ball. Thanks for any help I get Mark43551

Thanks you for your vote of confidence! At iFly we work hard to gather timely information. As DET Coleman Young AP has no longer an official site (and Detroit City lists it with address & telephone numbers only) I must assume that you Depart DET by Canadair, arriving at CVG and connecting there to Delta flight to LAS, right? While I have Air Canada listed at CVG as serving Concourse A (I presume this also goes for Canadair), Delta uses Concourse B's gates exclusively (B12-B1 left; B13-39 right. A & B Concourses are parallel-running buildings, reached by shuttle train taking 90 seconds (or by tunnel with walkway). Hope this info helps.

Sajul im sorry I was so confusing, I flying into det on canadair and I want to know how far away the delta terminal is located compared to where we will be when I get off the canadair flight into Detroit mark43551

Please ignore sajul's rambling and confusing and incorrect response. Delta uses DTW, not DET. Canadair is not an airline. It is a type of aircraft. Both of your flights will be on Delta. Both flights will be in the McNamara Terminal at DTW. You should have plenty of time to make your connection. All you have to do at DTW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Zap my wife and I could not be happier, this is great news. We've been really concerned since we were bumped from the direct flight that we wouldn't make the connecting flight on time. Thanks so much for straightening this out for us Zap

  • Connection - From Brazil to San Francisco
    Jul 7, 2014

I have my parents coming from GRU Sao Paulo to San Francisco, in a Delta flight and connection in Detroit. My concern is that the don't speak a single word in English and I'd like to give them a step by step for not being lost in the connection. Will they need a transportation to switch from an International Gate (arrival) to the Domestic (departure)? Thank you very much

All Delta gates at DTW are in the same terminal. Upon arrival they will be directed towards US Immigration where they will go through Immigration, claim their baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check their bags with Delta. Then they will follow signs to the departure level, go through security, and to their departure gate which will be on the A concourse of the same terminal they arrived in.

  • 30 min connection enough time?
    Jul 1, 2014

Hello. We have a 30 min connection time on a Friday in August from DL 4155 (Endeavor) arriving at DTW at 5pm, trying to catch DL3739 (Endeavor) departing for CVG at 5:30 pm. Is this possible? Our seats are in the back of the plane. Thank you!

Yes, it is possible if your first flight is on-time. Both flights will likely be in the B/C concourse in the McNamara Terminal. However, it doesn't leave much time for delays.

We arrive in Detroit on Delta with only 40 min to transfer to international flight to Paris on Air France (in November). Is this enough time?

All Delta gates are connected inside security in the McNamara Terminal. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time but little time to spare for any delays.

Is there enough time from BOS to DTW to MANILA: DL 159 to DL 629 on a 54-minute layover? Thanks!

Yes, it should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. Both flights will be on concourse A of the McNamara terminal.

I arrive in Detroit on Delta 1907 at 7:57am and depart on delta 2228 at 8:35am. Will I have enough time with 2 adults, a 9 year old, a 4 year old and all our carry-on luggage? thank you

I'm flying from day to hpn via dtw both flights are delta operated connections, delta connections, I have 90 min layover during the middle of the week in early November should I expect weather, ie snow, delays if so is 90 mins a long enough time?

Almost definitely faster to take the Skylink. The Skylink is really fast and the station would be on the way anyway.

  • Where do I spend time in Customs?

Hello, I fly tomorrow from Portland ME to DTW Airport and transfer to a Toronto flight. Is my first travel leg considered national or international? Will I need to allow time in Portland to go through customs or will that all happen in Detroit where I have a 45 min connection time.

You will go through Canadian immigration when you get to Toronto. All you have to do in DTW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Terminal Connection: time for layover
    May 26, 2014

Dear Sir or Madam, I am arriving in DTW from LAX by DELTA 539 and have to change the plane to DELTA 1088 to New York, EWR. I have only 40 minutes on order to change a plane and I wonder if I should go through any checking or custom? Additionally, will my checked in bags forwarded or I have to do that by myself? Thank you very much in advance for your help.

You arrive at DTW at the McNamara Terminal, which has Concourses & gates A, B & C. A tunnel connects in the center between Concourse A (near gate 38) and Concourses B & C (at Gates C1 of the lower level). Follow signs. Only international arrivals at US Airports need to go through customs clearance. Your bags will be checked through. Your transfer time should suffice.

  • DTW connection time

Hello! I'm sorry if something like that was already asked and answered, I just want to double check my informations about a connecting flight in Detroit. Arriving from YUL (montreal), going to Seoul, I will have a connection in Detroit, with 1h19min to spare. Delta Flights all the way. From what I've read, I will get pre-cleared in Canada and will depart from the same terminal since I have Delta flights? Is that right? Is that enough? Thanks a lot!!

Yes you go through US Customs Clearance at YUL and will arrive & depart at DTW's McNamara Terminal, which has Concourses A, B & C with corresponding gates. The overhead screens on arrival. will indicate flight & gate number. Concourse A, reached from level 2, has 1.5 miles of moving walkways . Additionally, the Express Tram stops at the South station near gate A11, the Terminal station in the center near gate 1 and the water feature, and the North station near gate A67. Concourse A has to the left gates A38-A1; to the right gates A40-78, and at its center the tunnel connecting to Concourse B to the left and Concourse C to the right. Concourse B at right has gates B1-21on opposite sides. Concourse C at left has C1 through C43 on opposite sides. An elevator between Concourses B & C leads to the Lower Level gates C1 to C7.

ok thanks! Should be enough time then!

  • 1 hour layover

I'm flying from Canada to San Francisco with a one hour layover in Detroit. Do I need to go through customs in Detroit, and is one hour enough time?

Where in Canada are you coming from? Most major airports in Canada have US Immigration pre-clearance. If the airport you're flying from does have it, you will pre-clear US Immigration there and all you will have to do in Detroit is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If both of your flights are on Delta all their gates are connected within security.

I'm flying from Halifax, and it looks like they do have pre-clearance: http://hiaa.ca/travel-checklist/travel-to-the-us/ Thanks for the info!

  • 52 minute connection time

Arriving from Las Vegas on DELTA 1389 at 8:58pm. Connecting to DELTA 4112 (Endeavor) to Ottawa, Canada at 9:50pm. Is 52 minutes enough to make the connection? This a Wednesday in early June.

Your transfer time should suffice. However, the McNamara Terminal with its Concourses A, B & C is huge. To find out how to connect between its Concourses, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dtw, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Yes, you should have enough time. You will arrive in Concourse A and depart from B or C, which are connected by an underground tunnel with moving walkway. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
