I will be flying on Delta from YUL (Montreal) to MEX (Mexico city) with a 55 minute connection in DTW. I will be checking one bag. Is it enough and how would the transfer process be like? Will I be pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Montreal ? Thank you in advance

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in Detroit on your way to Mexico City is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Hello I'll be flying Delta from Dallas to connect to a Delta flight to Nagoya, Japan. Layover is 50 minutes. Is that enough time?

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on concourse A of the McNamara Terminal No need to ask the same question twice.

I am flying AMS-DTW-STL on Nov 28. Is 90 min adequate layover time?

Yes, that is just enough time if everything goes smoothly. However, that is a very busy travel day, so expect crowds.

Hi, My brother is travel from Vietnam to Boston for immigration. His flights would be Vietnam-Seoul-Detroit-Bocton. He has 2 hours connection in Detroit. Will he has enough time to check with custom and border and finish immigrant paper work ( green card and stuff) ? Hope you can answer my question. Thank you

Add to the post above: he is flying with delta. They posted the same flight number of flight from Seoul to Detroit and from Detroit to Boston. However, it's different aircraft so he has to get off the flight for the next flight to Boston. That makes his port of entry is Detroit, not Boston. Therefore he has to check with custom and border and finish the immigration paperwork in Detroit right? I'm really worried that it would take long and he will be later for the next flight (also delta) to Boston.

That is correct, he will do all the entry procedures in Detroit. He should have enough time to make his connection.

Hi, thank you for your response. I have one more question. He is doesn't speak English, so are they gonna find someone to translate for him at custom and border? I'm worried that will take time and he will be late for his next flight. If he couldn't catch his next flight which is also delta (under same ticket number as the first flight) will delta find him the next flight with no charge?

Hi, I spoke the delta airline but different people told me different things, so I really don't know who to listen to. Some told me that he need to check with custom and border in Detroit. Some told me he will check with custom and border in Boston (they said because the stop in Detroit just to change equipment and doesn't treat as connection flight) they said he just need to go to the next flight which in the same terminal. Have you heard anything like that? Thank you

I 100% Guarantee that all the immigration formalities will take place in Detroit. Whoever told you that they will be in Boston is an idiot.

Hi, Looking into flying Delta from AMS to MSY via DTW. Transfer time 1h28m in DTW. Date: Saturday in late July 2017. Doable? All on 1 ticket, we will have checked luggage. Thanks for advice!

Yes, it's possible if the flight from Amsterdam arrives on-time. Due to the long time before your flight date, the exact schedule will probably change between now and then anyway.

    Thank you!

We are flying from Paris, France to the USA via Air France and have only 1.5 hours to clear customs before catching our final flight (Delta) to Lincoln, NE. Do we have enough time or would it be wiase to just have carry on luggage?

That should be enough time if everything goes smoothly.

    Thank you

37min connection between arrival from BTV and departure to IND. I can NOT miss the connection. Assuming no plane delays is this too tight? I usually assume 45min requirement for DTW connections.

It's possible. Connections at DTW are pretty easy.

  • Transfer time - arrive from SLC, deart to London Heathrow

I will be travelling from Salt Lake City to London Heathrow via Detroit. It's a codeshare flight. The inbound flight is Delta, the outbound flight Virgin Atlantic. I have 70 minutes for the transfer. What is the procedure - do I have to get my bags and check them in again? I will have checked in online. I am worried 70 minutes is not enough. The whole journey was booked via Virgin Atlantic

Yes, that is plenty of time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

My son is traveling for the first time on his own and has a 1 hour connection time from an international flight on Endeavour Air DBA Delta to BHM on Skywest DBA Delta. Will he have enough time and is it a confusing connection? We are also wondering if he will have to go through customs since YYZ has a US preflight customs.

He will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All he has to do in Detroit is go from his arrival gate to his departure gate. This is a very easy connection.

We are flying from PLN to DTW on Sky West Connect flight 7426 arrival time about 8a.m. the departure time is 8:36a.m. flight 1511 to DEN. Will it be in the same terminal? How do I find info on that? Times are real close. Eeks.

Yes, both flights will be in the McNamara Terminal. You will arrive in concourse B or C (likely C) and depart from Concourse A. They are connected inside security by an underground walkway. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Enough time to change planes?
    Aug 25, 2016

Hi, I am flying from London Heathrow to Toronto, via Detroit Metro. I have 1.5 hours to change planes, is this enough time and do I need to clear customs? Any advice on the transit would be appreciated. Thanks

All you need to clear customs is a passport. As for the connection, this will be very tight. In all likelihood, this is not enough time to catch your flight unless your plane from London is early. If you miss your flight in DTW, Delta will rebook you on the next flight to Toronto. (I'm assuming that this is booked on one ticket through Delta. If not, let me know)

1.5 hours is usually sufficient for an International to International connection at DTW.
