Hi! This is my first time to America. I really need some help. My airplane from Korea will arrive at DTW 12:00. Then I need to transfer to a fly leaves at 13:45 to Raleigh. I'm not sure whether 1 hour 45 minutes is enough for me to go through US immigration and re-check my baggage!! plz help me!!

That should be enough time. Everything at DTW on Delta is close together and in one terminal.

  • I wonder if i can make it-pls help

flight tom via delta - from DCA to DTW then to LAS boarding time from DTW to LAS is at 11:32A. I will be arriving from DCA to DTW at 11:22... 10 minutes going to DTW gate for delta - is it possible? How will i make it?

If your first flight is early you could possibly make it if you run as both flights will be on the same concourse. However, that itinerary is below the minimum connection time. Delta should be able to rebook you. However, with how snowy it is right now you will probably have trouble getting through to reservations tonight. I would just show up for your flights and hope for the best.

Hi, I´ll have a delta connection in DTW from Miami to Sao Paulo (Brazil) and only 55minutes to do it. Will it be enough? Wich concourse will I arrive and depart?

You will both arrive and depart in the A Concourse of the McNamara Terminal. If your first flight is on-time you'll have enough time.

How fast can get delta terminal from north terminal

I'd budget at least 90 minutes for your transfer if your flight from the North Terminal is domestic, at least 2 hours if it's International. The only way between them is a bus and it runs infrequently.

  • Stopover from Amsterdam to Raleigh, 2h 15m

Hi, I will be travelling to Raleigh via Detroit soon. My flight operated by Delta should arrive in at 13.30 on a saturday (from Amsterdam) and my connecting flight to Raleigh also operated by delta leaves at 15.45. I am first time solo flyer so am a bit scared of connections! Im wondering if that is enough time to be able to do it successfully, and what steps I need to go through to have a smooth transition? Thanks!

When you arrive in Detroit you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through customs, and then re-check your baggage at the re-check desk. You will then go upstairs and go through security and to your departing gate. Everything will be in the same terminal. You should have plenty of time.

I have 49 minutes connection time for delta flight 5560 to my Indianapolis flight 3838, connecting through Detroit DTW. Is this sufficient time?

If your first flight is on-time, yes, it should be enough time. Both flights will be in the McNamara terminal, likely be in the B/C concourse.

This would be my first time for traveling with transfer. I arrive from Amsterdam with DL 251 at 10.40 a.m. and have a transfer with DL 1704 at 14.00 p.m. Please help me what I exactly have to do. Must I Pick up my luggage first and clear in. Is that in the neighbourhood where I left my plane from Amsterdam? Is the gate where I have to go in the same area\? Must I go with elevators or shuttle buses. Please help me.

You will arrive at, and depart from, the South Terminal, which has Conccourses /gates H & J. International Arrivals will be processed at Arrivals J (follow directions), where they need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag. Thereafter, proceed to your connecting Concourse H (H gates) for Delta connection.

On arrival at DTW, you will be processed at the lower level of McNamara Terminal and thereafter take the escalator thereafter to level 1, and proceed from there to level 2 with Concourses/Gates. On arrival, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag . You can connect to your departing gates by moving walkways or by taking the Express Tram. The McNamara Terminal has Concourses A, B & C with corresponding gates. The overhead screens will indicate flight numbers & gates. You have plenty of time.

Thanks thoct13 for your answers. If I understand you quite well as follows: We arrive from Amsterdam at the lower lever of McNamara Terminal. Then we first must take the elevator to level 1. Then another elevator to level 2 where the gates are displayed. Then thereafter through the passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance with bags, luggage etc. and then re-check in luggage and then to our connecting flight to Miamiby moving walkways. I do not understand what gates H & J and J have to do with my transfer. Please I am so worried, let me know exactly what to do.

thoct's post was very confusing - here is what you do. You will arrive in the immigration area of the McNamara Terminal, which is on the lower level. When there you will go through US immigration, claim your baggage, and go through US customs. After exiting customs you can re-check your bags with Delta. Then you will go upstairs to the departure level and go through security and to your gate. Everything is directly connected - no shuttles required.

Oh. Thank you Zap. My flight from Amsterdam to Detroit will be DL 251, arriving time 10.40. Then flight nr DL 1704 departure 14.00 pm to Miami. Your answer is very clear. Do you know the gate of arrival and the gate of departure? Is that a big distance from each other? Thx ZAP again.

You won't know the exact gates until the day of your flight, but all the international arrival gates are near the center of the A concourse and your Miami flight will also leave from somewhere in the A concourse.

ZAP. Thx very much. I think that because of you i will feel me much relaxer then before. Grts from Amsterdam.

Arriving from MKE, departing to FRA, which concourses/gates most likely? Thanks !

That depends on your airlines. DTW has 2 terminals. The McNamara Terminal is used for all airlines serving DTW, except Air Canada, AirTran, American, Frontier, Lufthansa, Royal Jordanian, Southwest, Spirit, United, US Airways & all charters - which use the North Terminal. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dtw, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Well since only Delta flies MKE-DTW you will arrive in the McNamara Terminal, probably concourse A as it appears all the afternoon arrivals are Delta and not Delta Connection. If your flight to FRA is also operated by Delta you will also leave from concourse A. If your flight to FRA is on Lufthansa you will have to take a bus to the North Terminal and you will need at least 90 minutes for your transfer.

My connecting flight at DTW only says that its "Delta 1928". I am an unexperienced flyer and would like to know how to find it. Will there be clear signs?

'DL1928'would be the flight number which you will see listed on the overhead screens of the arriving terminal. It will also list the gate number and departure time. Delta uses the McNamara Terminal which has Concourses A & B/C (and A, B, C gate numbers). A tunnel connects in the center between Concourse A (near gate 38) and Concourses B & C (at Gates C1 of the lower level). If you happen to arrive at the North Terminal (D gates), you would need to take the shuttle bus outside, which runs every 10 mins, to the McNamara terminal, and go there through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dtw. then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

If all of your flights are on Delta then all of them will be in the McNamara terminal. If you want more help, please post info on your other flight.

I'm flying from Toronto to Amsterdam, connection at DTW. All flights are either Delta or Delta/operated by KLM. My understanding is... once at DTW, I'll need to claim baggage, clear customs, and re-check any baggage again.... If my flights are on time, will 55 mins be enough time to transfer?

That is incorrect, on your way to Amsterdam, you will pre-clear US immigration in Toronto, all you will have to do is go from gate to gate. 55 minutes is enough time to do this. On the way from Amsterdam to Toronto, if you're connecting in Detroit then, that is when you would have to go through US immigration in Detroit.

Thanks for answering my question so quick. Your help with this was appreciated.

we have 40 minutes to make a connection flying on Delta Operated by ENDEAVOR AIR Extra concern is I need to have use of a wheelchair. How do I handle this at the airport?/

You need to request wheelchair service from Delta by calling them.

I always request a wheelchair but some airports are better at having them then other, and I never used DWT or had to transfer planes before so I don't know how long that will take.

I did ask for a wheelchair

OK you should be fine then. 40 minutes is enough time if your flights are on-time.

This forum is great! My daughter is connecting at DTW from Denver to Bangor, Maine. The plane to Maine is a Canadair regional jet 900. (Her entire trip is on Delta) Do the smaller planes leave from a particular concourse? She's a little nervous, me too. Any idea what to expect upon arrival? Thank you so much.

It appears that that flight usually uses the B concourse of the McNamara Terminal. Her arrival from Denver will be in the A concourse. Also, the CRJ-900 is one of the largest regional jets, so it won't feel small at all.

Thank you so very much! What is the easiest way to get to concourse B from A?

The only way to get between them is an underground tunnel w/ moving walkways. There are clear signs showing the path from the A to B gates.

Thanks, this makes me feel a ton better.

actually, how much time would one need between gates A and B?

Anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes would be typical, depending on where in A the Denver flight comes in.

Thank you so much, this forum is so cool and you are great ZAP!

i was wondering if anybody knew, if im able to just leave and not board a connection flight. i plan to leave Amsterdam , and found a great priced ticket and round trip., but it goes from Amsterdam to Detroit to Chicago (all on one ticket) but i really would rather get off in Detroit because its closer to my destination. is it illegal to miss the flight to chicago? also i would be going through customs there , right? thanks!!!

It's not illegal, however, if you bought a roundtrip ticket and do not board the Detroit-Chicago flight, then Delta may cancel the rest of your itinerary. Yes, you will be going through US immigration in Detroit.

I have to catch a connecting flight from Detroit to Cincinnati in 30 minutes. Both are "delta connection" planes. Hoping the gates will be in the same part of the airport. Any insight? Is 30 minutes enough time?

Most of the Delta conneciton flights use the B/C concourse of the McNamara terminal. Some use the A concourse though. If your first flight is on-time you should have enough time.

I fly from Amsterdam to Detroit landing at 1040 will I be able to make connecting flight to Miami that leaves at 1215. seeing I will have to clear customs and what not. I hope so I catch another connecting flight from Miami to grand caymans at 1930

You should be OK, it'll be tight and you'll have to hurry though - Assuming your Detroit-Miami flight is on Delta. If it's on American, no chance.
