I have a 66 min connection here coming from Houston connecting in Detroit and going to South Korea. Will that be enough? Do I have to go through customs? Or will that be accomplished in Houston?

There is no US Customs when departing the US. All you have to do in Detroit is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You just show your passport to the Delta gate agent when boarding your flight to Seoul.

    Awesome, Thank you so much!

  • DTW International Layover
    Mar 6, 2016
My flight from YUL arrives in DTW at 6:56 and my flight out is at 7:50. This feels like an incredibly short layover but my travel agent said it would be fine. Will I have enough time?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in Detroit is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • Time between flights

We have an international flight from Germany that arrives in Detroit with 90 minutes to get to next flight to Phoenix. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be just about enough time.

  • Flying into Detroit from Amsterdam the onto Savannah

I only have 2 hours 6 minutes between flights which is very tight. Can you tell me which concourse I will be flying into and out of Detroit and how you get from one concourse to the other if I have to change. All flights are with KLM.

You will fly into the A, concourse, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You will depart from concourse A or B. B and C are connected to A by a short underground tunnel at the middle of A.

    Many thanks

  • 36min layover : Providence(PVD) -DTW-SLC
    Feb 25, 2016
Hi, I'm considering flights on Delta. Is it possible to transfer within 36 minutes? Do I have to re-check my baggage and pass security? Also, because we travel with our baby, we might not be able to run fast.

Yes, that is possible. You don't have to do anything with your baggage or go through security.

I think that is awful tight especially with a baby. What if your plane lands 10 mins late and you are sitting in the middle of the plane or back? It could take you 10 or more mins just to deplane. I would not risk it. That is very tight and sitting waiting to see how long before you get on another flight, not worth the risk.

  • 46 minute layover time long enough?? (MSP-->DTW-->Richmond
    Feb 17, 2016
Is a 46 minute layover time long enough? My flight is from MSP to DTW to Richmond international.

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do in Detroit is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

After I have claimed and rechecked my luggage and have the time available, am I able to leave terminal for a cigarette?

Yes, after re-check you are outside security. However, I don't know how far away from the terminal you have to go to smoke.

Yes you can just go out the door and walk 25 feet. Done it many times at DTW

  • 34 min layover - MSY to DTW to BOS
    Feb 17, 2016
Nervous about making my connecting flight to Boston through the Detriot Airport. It's MSY (NOLA) to DTW to Boston with only a 34 minute layover. Is it realisitc?

It's possible, it obviously leaves no time to spare if the flight from New Orleans is delayed.

  • 1h 28m Layover - Beijing to Miami (DTW Layover)
    Mar 23, 2016
I'm looking to book my return flight on Delta. I can get a good price via DTW, but the connection is only 1h 28m. Is that too tight for baggage, customs, re-check?

It's possible. It's 2 minutes under the recommended international to domestic connection time, but DTW isn't too busy. I think that as long as your flight from Beijing is on-time you'll probably make it.

Thanks ZAP. The flight lands at DTW at 6:17pm. Is that a busy time at the DTW International Arrivals?

The flight from Nagoya also arrives at about that time and a flight from Amsterdam arrives about 25 minutes earlier, but that's it. Immigration at DTW is rarely if ever crowded.

I'll arrive Dtw by delta and connect delta international plane to Pvg. I only have 1 hour from arrival of the first flight to connect the departure of the second, maybe walk from B to concourse A. Can you tell me if the layover time is okay? Thank you

  • Is 41 minutes enough for connecting international flight at DTW
    Feb 14, 2016
Im going to Manila Philippines from Lexington, Kentucky on March 11 2016. I have Transit in DTW and has 41 minutes in between Arrival and departure. Is it enough time? or do I need to re-route my travel? Do I need to go through security check and Custom Check-in in DTW again?

If both flights are on Delta then all you have to do in Detroit is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no US customs when leaving the US. Both gates are in the McNamara terminal. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Yes, both flights are on delta. Thanks.

  • 50 min connection
    Feb 12, 2016
Hi, I am coming from Ottawa using Delta on March 25th. Will be landing at 745am, my connecting flight to New Orleans is at 8:35 am. Will I make my connecting flight? are the gates nearby? Thanks in advance!

You should have enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ottawa. You will likely arrive in concourse B or C and depart from concourse A. They are connected inside security by an underground tunnel.

  • From Paris to Denver
    Feb 5, 2016
Hi there, Coming from Amsterdam @5:46pm with KLM to go to Denver @8:08pm with DL. Is that enough time to through immigration, get the bags, customs, then go to the gate? There is no other flight to DEN after that one so I need the info before getting the ticket please. Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time as long as the flight from Amsterdam is on-time.

  • Connecting to International flight

    Yup both are Delta

  • Internation connection to domestic with family - enough time?
    Jan 25, 2016
Hi arrivin at DTW from AMS (KLM flight operated by Delta) at 10:32 and depart on Delta domestic to MCO at 12:10 So I assume checked bags will go from one flight to the another and we just need to clear customs and run to gate?

Wrong. You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US customs, re-check your bags at the recheck desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Thanks Zap - do you think the time is tight?

Yes, you should have enough time.

  • Which airline are B gates?
    Jan 23, 2016
I lost an iPad while travelling through DTW last week. I flew out of gate C-8 in McNamara Terminal on Delta. But I was charging my tablet at the gate right next to Chilis - I think it is gate B-1. Does anyone know if this is a Delta gate? Need to know which airline to file lost report with. Very much appreciate any help.

Yes, that is also a Delta/Delta Connection gate.

    thanks for your help!
