  • Will I make my connecting flight?
    Nov 10, 2015
I am flying on Delta 3319 from HSV to DTW. My connecting flight is Delta 2793 to MSP. The layover is 37 minutes. Will I make my connecting flight?

If your first flight is on-time that should be enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in the McNamara Terminal. If your first flight is late, Delta operates many flights from DTW to MSP.

I'm completely new to flying so any helpful information would be appreciated. My flight is from Toronto to Detroit on delta and then I have to transfer to air france for a flight to Paris in 45 minutes. Will my bags be automatically transferred when the air lines are different or will I have to pick them up and take them to the departure gate?

On your way to Paris you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Minneapolis is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Your bags will be tagged through to Paris.

Sorry, that's all you have to do in Detroit, not Minneapolis.

  • YYZ -> DTW -> CVG
    Nov 26, 2014
Hi, I am travelling from YYZ to CVG, with a layover at DTW. I am on a B visa. I am also a Canadian PR holder. Do I have to go through Immigration at DTW? Also, my layover time is 48 mins, will that be sufficient time to go through all the procedures? Thanks.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. In Detroit all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Yes, 48 mins is enough time to do that if your first flight is on-time.

  • Arrival time

I have guests leaving DTW on a 6:00 a.m. American flight to Miami. One of the two guests will continue on to the Dominican Republic on another flight. What time do they need to check in for their flight? Two hours doesn't seem right as the airport is usually deserted at 4:00 a.m.

  • Time needed before flight
    Mar 31, 2014
Hi, I have a flight out of Detroit to Nashville on a Friday at 7am. If I'm not checking any bags, just a carry-on, about what time do I need to arrive to the airport by? Thanks!

If you check-in online you could get to the airport about 45 minutes before your flight since then all you will need to do is go through security and to your gate.

Thank you! Does it not take them a long time to search through your carry-on? I've never packed all of my things into a carry-on suitcase before. Thanks again

Your carry-on should not have to be searched unless you pack something that you're not allowed to carry.

  • 32 minutes layover
    Mar 12, 2014
Hi ! I'm leaving from Knoxville with delta to detroit and then going back home to Ottawa. The flight is june 29th pm. They changed flights hour and we have now a 32 minutes connection, do you think it's possible to make it ? It's the only flight of the day

Yes if your first flight is on time its enough time. Both flights will likely be on the same concourse.

  • 44 minute layout enough time?
    Mar 7, 2014
will 45 minute layover be enough time to get to connecting flight on time? flying in to DTW from JFK on Delta 2942 and fly out from DTW to Shanghai on Delta 583. thank you

You arrive & depart from the McNamara Terminal. 45 mins is tight - & depends on how far apart your connecting gate is. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dtw, click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the 'McNamara Terminal' details.

Both of your flights will be in the A concourse. If you get in on-time you should have plenty of time for your connection.

if I am flying from Detroit to Tampa Florida when do I go through customs

Both Detroit and Tampa are located in the United States. Are you flying in to Detroit from somewhere in another country? If so, you go through immigration and customs in Detroit.

I have a domestic flight on the morning of Christmas eve. I am wondering if the security line will be long. Will I have enough time if I get to the airport an hour before my flight?

An hour should be enough time, but if you're worried get there earlier. Christmas eve isn't really an exceptionally busy day.

  • customs time

Flying from Shanghai to Cincinnati thru DTW. Arr DTW 615pm Fri, Dep 735 for CVG. Do I have time clear customs and get toy flight home?

Your transfer time depends on the airlines you take, whether your bags will be transferred after customs check (if journey for both legs are bought on one ticket - simply re-check-in your bags after customs where indicated. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dtw, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text - there you find 'International Arrivals' and transfers within and between terminals.

Since only Delta flies to DTW from those places you are on Delta. You will arrive in the McNamara Terminal where you will go through US immigration, claim your baggage, go through US customs, recheck your baggage, go upstairs and go through security. Your flight to CVG will depart from the same terminal. You should have enough time but you have no time to waste.

Thanks ZAP! I'll have been flying for 21 hours, including China in-country flight to Shanghai. I don't want to miss the last flight to CVG from DTW Fri night. I am considering joining BP Global Entry program for $100. Employer can't pay it for me.

This would be our first traveling with transfer in Detroit and we have only 50 minutes time. We arrive from San Francisco with AF 377 - AIR FRANCE at 20:45 p.m. (Terminal EM) and will departe with AF 7744 - AIR FRANCE at 21:35 p.m. (Terminal EM) to F-Paris. Could you please help me what we exactly have to do. Are 50 minutes enough? Is the gate where we have to go fare away? Where and how do we have to go? Must we go with elevators or shuttle buses? Must we pick up our luggage and do we have to go to the customs?

I answered your question on November 21, you appear confused regarding your flight numbers. AF7744 is a Delta Air Lines flight from SFO to Detroit and AF377 is an Air France flight from Detroit to Paris. They will both operate from the A-concourse of the McNamara terminal in Detroit. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.
