FAI Airport Overview
Fairbanks International FAI Airport, known as the Gateway to the Interior and Denali National Park, is located close to downtown Fairbanks, Alaska. The Airport is also the commercial hub, the primary provider of goods and services, for northern Alaska – a vast, sparsely settled roadless region more than twice the size of California that’s reliably accessible only by air. Alaska Airlines offers year-round daily direct flights to locations in Alaska and the Lower 48, and several regional airlines provide service to Anchorage and interior rural communities. The Airport is also making efforts to establish flights to the Asian continent. For a small hub airport, Fairbanks has remarkable passenger terminal facilities, including the capacity for U.S. Customs and Immigration processing of wide-body international passenger aircraft arrival.
Phase II of the international terminal project was completed in May 2009 and offers now curbside improvements, an expanded ticket lobby, two regional airline boarding gates on level one, three new concourse boarding gates, additional jet bridges, and relocation of airport administration offices. The regional, domestic and international air carriers are now located within one terminal building. The first floor of the terminal offers a an ATM machine, gate lounge, a military lounge, rental car couners and international processing; the second floor offers a gate lounge, public amenities, food & drink and international passenger screening.
Fairbanks International offers the following parking options: The main parking lot is directly in front of the terminal building and has electrical plug-ins in both the short- and long-term parking areas of the lot; handicap parking is available in the short-term area. There is also the East Ramp Parking Lot with lots 1 and 2, located on University Ave, south of the east ramp. To get to town you have the option of renting a car from one of the 6 rental car agencies doing business at the airport, or take a taxi or limo, use the Airlink shuttle (907-452-3337) or public bus MACS (907-459-1002).
Whether it’s northern lights viewing in the winter, or gateway access to Denali National Park in the summer, Fairbanks International FAI airport is happy to provide a seamless connection to the Last Frontier.
