  • Spirit Air- Customs and Connection
    Nov 23, 2015
hi there - flying Spirit in to FLL from Bogotá and arriving at 6:52 p.m and have a connecting flight to Denver leaving at 8:15 p.m with two checked bags. Do you think this is enough time to clear customs / recheck bags and make connection? Will this all take place in T4? Advice?

That late in the evening you should be OK if your flight from Bogota is on-time, but it doesn't leave much time to spare. It appears both flights will probably be in Terminal 4, but there's a chance your Denver flight could depart from Terminal 3, so double check on the day of your flight.

  • 1 hour connection - SPIRIT FLIGHTS
    Nov 10, 2015
Me and my husband are flying from SJO to Orlando, via FLL. Our SJO-FLL flight arrives at 6am and the FLL-ORL flight departures at 7am. Is one hour enough time? thanks! (both flights are with Spirit Airlines)

It's possible but leaves no time to spare if the flight from San Jose is delayed.

  • FLL Norwegian to Spirit connection
    Nov 9, 2015
The itinerary we're planning has a Norwegian flight from Gatwick arriving at FLL at 20:15. Can we clear immigration (we're US citizens) and make a Spirit flight at 21:59?

It's possible but leaves no time to spare if the Norwegian flight is delayed.

  • Connection time
    Nov 6, 2015
I'm flying Spirit Airlines in January. I am flying out of Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale with only an hour connection time to make it to the next terminal for our flight to San Juan. I will only be bringing a carry on so no checked bags. Is a hour enough time? Will I have to go back through security?

If both flights are on Spirit they will be in the same terminal and you won't have to go through security.

  • International Connection- Norwegian Air flight to Spirit Airlines
    Nov 3, 2015
Hi, I'm looking at a Norwegian flight leaving from London and arriving in FLL at 21:00. The Spirit airline flight to Managua departs at 23:55. This leaves me with 2hrs55 to change terminals, clear security and re check luggage. Skypicker reassures me it's doable, however I'm worried about the distance between terminals, should I be concerned?

It should be possible as long as the Norwegian flight is on-time. Norwegian and Spirit's terminals are right next to each other.

  • Connecting flight from FLL to Colombia
    Oct 23, 2015
My question is,as a Turkish citizen,I will take a flight from Sweden to FLL,and then I wıll change the airline to Spirit to take another flight to Medellin,Colombia.Do I need transit visa for this? Even if I need, can I just walk to the plane if I dont check any luggage? Thanks a lot in advance

Yes, you will need a transit visa and at least 3 hours between flights.

  • International to Domestic connection on Spirit
    Jan 9, 2015
Hi, looking at a Spirit itinerary from San Jose, CR to DFW via Fort Lauderdale; the flight from SJO is schedule to arrive at FLL at 6:01am, and the connecting flight to DFW is scheduled to depart at 7:05. Not checking any bags. Seems like a very tight int'l-to-domestic connection to me, though presumably it's "legal" or they wouldn't be offering to ticket it on one itinerary. Couple questions: 1) Could this potentially be enough time to make the connection? I'm flying on a US passport and have Global Entry, so Customs & Immigration hopefully should not take long. 2) After clearing Customs, will I have to reclear security for the connection?

Yes, it is very tight but having global entry and no checked bags will help. Yes, you will have to go through security after clearing customs.

  • JetBlue Connecting Flights
    Jan 5, 2015
I'm flying Jetblue from NY to Costa Rica connecting in FLL next Saturday. Flight lands at 9:17a at FLL and my next flight out leaves at 9:45a. A Jetblue rep told me if there was a problem they'd contact me but I'm worried as I'm traveling alone with an infant. I'm hoping I leave from the same terminal. How risky is this?

Both flight should be in Terminal 3, but yes, your itinerary leaves very little time to spare if your flight from NY is late at all (which is common).

  • Terminal 3 to 1
    Nov 10, 2014
Hi arriving from Jamaica at terminal 3 Jet blue 4:35pm and connecting to silver to departing at 6:05 to Jax. First time doing connection flights is this enough time and how do i get from terminal to terminal. help

It's really pushing it. You'll have to take the Rental Car shuttle to the Consolidated rental facility and then take the walkway to T1.

since its international arrival its terminal 4 so how bad is it from there. what is a tram?

There are no trams in FLL. I didn't mention a tram. Taking the shuttle bus and walking to T1 should take 20 minutes or so from the time you exit customs.

  • 3 hours - SouthWest - Norwegian Connection?
    Oct 27, 2014
Hi, If I'm arriving on SouthWest from SJU at 20:00, with checked luggage, can I sensibly make the 23:00 Norwegian flight out to LGW? This would be on a Monday in Feb 2015, if that makes any difference. Will this involve a terminal change? I assume Puerto Rican flights are considered domestic, so even as a UK national I'll only have to clear immigration and customs on the outbound flight to London - is this correct? There is an inbound Spirit flight 2 hours earlier, but 5 hours seems a bit over cautious for the connection?

Yes, flights from Puerto Rico to the Continental US are domestic flights. You won't have to go through any immigration procedures in Fort Lauderdale. This does involve a change of terminals. You will arrive in Terminal 1, have to claim your bags from Southwest, then take them to Terminal 3 to check with Norwegian. 3 hours should be enough time. But considering neither carrier would be accomodating if you missed your connection, I would book the 5 hour connection personally.

  • time between connections

We are arriving FLL at 1:00 from Detroit on Delta (Concourse 2, D Terminal) and leave at 2:42 on Silver Air for Bahamas. Is this enough time as we will need to get checked bags then recheck them at new terminal? I think Silver Air leaves from Concourse C in Terminal 1?

It should be enough time but it doesn't leave much time to spare in case of delays.

I just checked with Silver Air and they do leave and arrive from gate C5 even on their flights to/from the Bahamas. We should be able to check bags all the way through to the Bahamas on the way there, so that will save us some time. It looks like we will have to get our checked bags then go through customs on our way home, but we have over 2 hours between flights then. I'm assuming we will have to get a cart and bring the bags over to Terminal 2 to check in for flight home on Delta. We have never traveled internationally from FLL...kind of confusing! Thanks for your reply.

On your return if your bags are checked through to DTW you will be able to re-check them after customs.

    Thank you, good to know!

  • Need urgent info: Spirit connection tonight!
    Aug 23, 2014
Daughter is flying Spirit from Bogota to Denver. Flight is late, she'll have 80 minutes to make connection. Arriving Gate H6 at 7:23, departing 8:40 Gate H7. Will she go through customs in Ft. Lauderdale or Denver if she checked a bag? Has one personal item as well.

You go through Immigration and customs in FLL. 80 mins should be enough time since everything is in the same terminal.

  • Enough time
    Aug 1, 2014
There seems to be many comments about making connecting flights. Like everyone else I am worried that a 55 minute connection between spirit flights is not enough. Will I need to go through customs if my first flight is domestic (ie NY to FLL)? Is that enough time if both flights are within the same terminal? Thanks for the help.

No, you do not go through US customs when leaving the US. If both flights are on spirit and your first flight is on-time you should have plenty of time.

How much time do I need to get from terminal 3 to terminal one ith only carry on

I'd want at least 90 minutes, but it's doable in an hour. However, that leaves very little buffer for delays.
