I am flyingn with my 4 years old boy from BOG to EWR with connection in IAH. I know i have to go through costums and immigration in IAH. Do i have to get my luggage and recheck it?, if so, Are there any cart services so I dont have to carry all that myself since I am 7 months pregnant? It is scary that I will have to do all that by myself with no help

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. There are carts to use free of charge in the International baggage claim hall to carry your bags through customs.

Hi! I have a question for Mariana. My 16 year old son (a US Citizen) is traveling BOG-IAH-STL the end of May. I'm wondering how long it took you to get through Immigration/Customs? He has 1 hour and 45 minutes to make his next flight. United assured me that was a valid layover time. But after I booked it I read about the long lines in Houston. Curious your experience since you're flying from Bogotá, also. Thanks for any light you can shed.

  • Domestic or International?

Is a flight from Houston to Canada considered international or domestic? It leaves from Terminal A. It will affect when we get to the airport.

Get there 2 hours before the flight.

  • Will I have enough time? Stressed first time traveler.
    Apr 24, 2016
HI, I am flying for the first time in June and I have a 55 min layover at IAH to catch a flight to Chile. I have no experience flying or navigating airports. Is 55 minutes enough time to catch my flight? Also, is there anyone that I can ask for help to ensure I don't miss that flight. This particularly worries my because it is a international flight and the final leg of my journey. Thanks!

If your flight into Houston is domestic that is enough time. All gates in Houston are connected inside security. Just follow the signs to your departure gate. Your flight to Chile will depart from Terminal E.

  • Arrival Time

I have a flight at 5:15am, however I was told the airport closes at 9 and reopens at 5am. Do I need to be at the airport at 9pm or is this a myth?

Hah, no, you do not have to be at the airport at 9 PM. Security actually reopens at about 3:30-4 AM, so get there then.

My daughter is flying out of Houston to Europe this summer and I will leave the same day to travel to MT-- Can we go through Airport security together and be in the Airport together before we leave for our respective flights?

Yes, you can. All Terminals and gates are connected inside security.

    Thank you for your help!

  • Transit at IAH. Do I need C1 visa
    Mar 8, 2016
I intend to travel to Cancun from Narita Japan. I have a change plane at IAH, the connection time about 3 hours. Do I need apply for C1 visa, even I stay inside the airport.

You will have to go through US Immigration, Customs and Security. If your citizenship requires a US Visa to visit the US, then you need a US Transit Visa to Transit the US.

  • To Auckland from DC via IAH question
    Feb 16, 2016
i am flying to Auckland tomorrow through Houston. Will I have to claim my bags and re-check in Houston? Or, do I simply go to my gate in Houston once I arrive from Washington? Thank you.

If both tickets are on the same reservation you just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Heathrow to Costa Rica via Houston IAH
    Feb 8, 2016
My daughter is flying into Houston from London Heathrow with one carry on bag and one checked suitcase and then on to Costa Rica 3 hours later, booked right through with United. What will she have to do when she arrives at Houston? I am a bit worried as she is only 22 and flying alone.

She will go through US Immigration, customs, and security. She should not have to claim her bag since she is on an International to International connection. She should have plenty of time.

Hi, we will be arriving at IAH with only 40 minutes till our next flight. We will be coming from San Jose, California to IAH, then from IAH going international to Cancun. Will 40 minutes be enough time? Will we need to go through security or anything in IAH or will we simply board a tram/shuttle to international terminal? Both flights are with United.

All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Travel from Mexico City connect thru IAH to St Louis
    Jan 21, 2016
I am returning to St. Louis from Mexico City connecting through Houston. Will I to go through customs in Houston? Will my bags be checked through to St. Louis Lambert?

In Houston you will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Baggage n overnightight
    Jan 8, 2016
So i called both airlines n didnt get a clear answer. I am flying with air Canada from Germany to Canada then Canada to houston. Arrive at 1130 pm then at 9 am the next day i fly with United to Fl. Now since its overnight layover 9 1/2 hrs , n different airlines do i need to get my bag in houston n recheck them in? If so can I do that right away or do i have to wait til a certain time to check them in!!! Seeing if i need a hotel or not

You won't need to claim your bags in Houston as you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Canada. They should be able to keep them overnight. But the agent in Germany may not be able to, so be prepared for that.

  • International arrival in Terminal D
    Nov 20, 2015
My husband is arriving to terminal D on an international flight. My son wants to meet him with a sign, where would we go to find him. He does not have any checked baggage, all carry on.

Will he have to go through immigration in Terminal D or will he go to Terminal E?

There are immigration halls in D and E. If he is on a flight that is not operated by United then he will arrive in D.

  • Meeting sister during layover

You can't. You don't have enough time to see her.
