Hello, I have a six hour layover and I wanted to know if I am allowed to leave the airport to have lunch with some friends and then check back in before my flight?

Yes, you are allowed to leave the airport. There is nobody guarding the door.

I fly out tomorrow from Quretarro Mexico landing at IAH with a 2 hr 35minute layover then flying to Toronto Canada. Will i need ot pick up by bags and have them rechecked.. If so do i do this before or after customs? Will my layover be long enough?

Since you are on an International to International connection you should not have to claim your bags in Houston, but confirm that with agents in Queretaro and Houston. You will go through US Immigration, Customs, and security. You should have plenty of time.

Hi, My flight will be having a 1 hour and 35 minute layover in IAH from NYC and my connecting flight goes to Lima, Peru, Is that enough time ?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate in C to your departure gate in E.

  • 35 minute layover??

I arrive in IAH at terminal B and I have to get to terminal E in 35 minutes before my next flight leaves. I am so scared! Do I have to go through security? Should I tell the flight attendants? Should I run or take the train? What do I do? Changing my flight is not an option since it costs too much money.

You have to take the Train, the TerminaLink train runs inside security and very frequently. You can make it if your first flight is on-time.

I am arriving from LHR at 18:30 via BA and connecting to DFW via AA at 20:09. I have only 1hr 39 mins. Is that enough? Tickets was sold by AA but flights operated by BA.

Yes, that should be enough time.

Thanks for the response. However I arrive at BA flight arrives at Terminal D and the connecting flights departs from Terminal A as I understand - Is that still enough? Do I have to go through immigration, check in etc etc....?

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk. You can then either take the inter-terminal train to Terminal A and go through security there or if you already have your AA boarding passes (you should), you can go through security in Terminal D and take the TerminaLink train to Terminal A. it's a bit of a difficult transfer, but possible.

I'm traveling to Mexico through United Airlines from DFW with laover 3 and half hrs at IAH. I have family in Houston, if they come to the airport to see me for an hour or two would I have enough time to go through security to get to my gate on time to aboard the next plane?

Yes, that should be enough time. You could meet with them for over an hour probably.

  • 47 min connection

I'm traveling from YYZ to IAH, then to Sao Paulo, Brazil, with a connection of 47 min. I have to get onto the Sao Paulo flight because I have another connection in Sao Paulo. The late afternoon flight in YYZ is easily delayed. Am I gonna able to make this one?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. It's possible to make if your flight is on-time. If it looks like your flight will be late leaving Toronto, proactively ask to be rebooked to connect through Chicago or Washington DC. They also have flights to Sao Paulo.

5 of us will be coming in on a flight from Veracruz MX to IAH with a layover time of 1hr 23min. Is that enough time to get through customs? We are flying on united the whole way. We are connecting in IAH to ATL. And will we have to pick up our bags in IAH if we are getting back on a united flight?

That is 7 minutes under the recommended connection time but it is doable if your first flight is on-time. You will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go to the departure level and through security. You will depart either from Terminal C, which is directly connected to E, or from Terminal B, which you will have to take the TerminaLink train to, which runs inside security. You'll have to hurry and hope everything goes smoothly.

  • Germany to Panama. Enough 1h20 in IAH?

Lufthansa big plane arriving in IAH, then 1h20 later United flight departs to Panama. United gave me this option so I believe can be done. Will I have enough time to clear customs and get to gate? Will my bags follow thru? If I don't make, is United responsible?

You should not have to claim your bags since you are on an International to International connection. I think you can make this if your first flight is on-time. Yes, if you miss your connection you will be rebooked on the next available flight to Panama free of charge. However, that flight likely would not be until the next morning.

  • Cayman to Vegas

Hi - we are UK citizens living in Grand Cayman, looking to fly from Cayman to Vegas via IAH, the flight has a layover time of 1hr 45 - is this sufficient? Do we have to go through customs etc? Is there anything we can do to ensure we don't miss our connection? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate which will be likely in Terminal C. There's not much you can do to impact your chances of making the connection.

Flying Toronto to Roatan through Houston with a 15 hour overnight layover. Are your bags tagged for final destination and unavailable?

You will likely have to claim them in Houston.

We are flying from Canada to Cancun with a layover in Houston. Will we need to go through customs, or is there a transfer area? Is 1 hour enough time?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Canada. You have enough time.

I'll be traveling soon with 2 teenagers & have a 5 hour layover (mostly in the AM). Any ideas of what to do within IAH for this long?

Ride the TerminaLink train around or just let them play with their phones.

  • 47 minutes Connect time in IAH

I will go to SAT via IAH by United. I have 47 mins. for connecting flight. My flight is LAX-IAH (arriving time 18.45) and then IAH-SAT (departing time 19.32). Do i have to change the terminal? Is it have enough time? United staff will wait me at the arrival gate? I have to do something with my checked-luguage?

You don't have to do anything with your checked baggage. You will not know your exact gates until the day of your flight. They will not hold your flight for you if you are late. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time. The Terminalink train connects all terminals inside security.

  • what to do with a 5 hour layover from 6 am to 11 am

I have a flight coming from portland oregon that lands at 6 AM in houston, and I have a connecting flight to Cabo that departs Houston at 10:55 AM. With roughly 5 hours, is it possible I leave and explore Houston for a bit, then return and make it on time?

It's not worth it. It's over an hour into the city from IAH and there's honestly not much seeing in Houston that's worth the $80-$100 in cab fare that it would be to see it. Just hang out at the airport.
