  • 1HR 47 Layover

We fly London Heathrow to Houston Terminal E with a connecting flight to San Jose Costa Rica, also terminal E, 1 hr 47 mins later. The later flight out is a layover of about 6 hours which I would rather not do. I think we do not have to collect and check in bags? We are United airlines and Lufthansa. Is 1 hr 47 ok?

Yes, you shouldn't have to collect your bags because you are on International to International. Note that both your flights are opreated by United so check in with United in London. You will still have to go through US Immigration and Security.

  • Connection international.

If I check my bag in okc on my way to Costa Rica will I need to claim it and recheck it in Houston?

    No you will not.

  • 50 Min Connection Term C to E?
    May 29, 2015
So I'm connecting through IAH from Newark going to San Jose, Costa Rica. Untied recently changed my outbound flight by 20 min later making my connection from arrival to departure only 50 mins. Arriving terminal C departing terminal E - is this cutting it too close? Does it make a difference if it is international? If I tell the flight attendants can they help at all? Any info would be appreciated!

It's very doable if your first flight is on-time. All you have to do is walk from gate to gate. It doesn't matter much that the second flight is international, other than it means having to go to E. Most of the passengers on your flight will have connections and honestly even if you were able to get out first it would only save you a minute or two.

  • FRA - IAH - PTY
    May 29, 2015
Hi, I am planning to book a flight from FRA to PTY with a 1hour 20 minutes layover in Houston George Bush International. I am not a US citizen. Incoming Lufthansa, outgoing United. Is this enough time to change flights or will I not be able to make my plane to Panama? Many thanks!

That is 10 minutes below the minimum recommended connection time for International to International in Houston. It's possible, but there's some risk involved. You will not have to claim your bags because you are on International to International, but you will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security.

thanks ZAP! your advice is much appreciated

  • transfer time

Our 15 year old son will fly from Frankfurt with Lufthansa to San Antonio in August with United Airlines to spend a school year as an exchange student there. Will 2h 45 minutes be enough for him to go through passport control, recheck his baggage and change terminals?

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • time?

Tegucigalpa to DEN with 1 hour 47 minute connection time, is this enough time to make my DEN fight?

    with a dog

    What airport? What airlines?

united. From tegucigalpa to iah and iah to denver

That should barely be enough time. If your flight from TGU is late then you can be rebooked on the next flight to Denver. United has a lot of them. In Houston you will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bag at the transfer desk, go through security, and then to your departure gate, likely in Terminal C.

Hi! I have a flight going from Costa Rica to Orlando with a 1h 45 min connecting time in IAH (flying with Southwest) on 12/15. I'm traveling with a child (12 yo) and we're not US citizens. Do you think that'll be enough time? I'm not sure how fast the immigration officers fare with the non US citizen lines. Thanks!

Southwest does not fly to IAH. They fly to HOU (Houston Hobby Airport). Yes, that should be enough time. There will be very few non-US Citizens on your flight.

  • DSM to Cabo
    May 26, 2015
I'm flying on United from DSM to Cabo with a layover at IAH. Do you know which terminals my arrival

You will arrive in Terminal B or C (probably B) and depart from Terminal E. All Terminals are connected inside security by the TerminaLink train.

Thanks again ZAP. Reviewing the Q&A here you are doing a lot to assist people at this airport. That really helps.

  • Terminal C to D with luggage - what options?
    May 25, 2015
We will change airlines (United to Singapore) so must go from Terminal C to D. We have lots of time but quite a few heavy bags, and will be leaving the security zone. We have used the underground train before but getting bags there and onto it is hard. Are there any other options?

If you show your Singapore confirmation to the agent in your origin city they may check your bags through to your Singapore flight, considering both airlines are in Star Alliance.

Thank you ZAP. We've tried that before with two Star Alliance carriers and it didn't work, but might this time. If we have to carry the bags are there any inter-terminal options (e.g. bus) other than the underground train?

No, the Underground train is there to avoid having to have a bus.

  • terminal d to c connection time
    May 22, 2015
Hi, We are arriving on NZ0028 at 1.15pm at terminal D and have 2 hours before our flight to NYC from terminal C. We will need to clear customs as we are coming from NZ. We will have US visas but travelling on NZ passports. His this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Tight Connection
    May 21, 2015
Is 1 hour enough time between Flights. Coming from London (LHR) I will be landing in terminal E and need to get to terminal B in one hour for my connection to El Paso. Is this enough time to go through customs, re-check my bag, and go through security again to get to terminal B?

NO, 1 hour is not sufficient time for an International to Domestic connection in Houston. 90 minutes is the bare minimum. You need to contact United or your Travel agent and get on a later flight to El Paso.

  • Miami-London Heathrow via Houston
    May 21, 2015
I am travelling from MIA to LHR with a 35 minute connection time at IAH. I am very concerned with the connection time. Can it be done? and if we miss our flight will United Airlines put us on the next flight for free? We are landing at terminal C and depart at terminal E.

Yes, it is possible but depends on the flight from Miami being on-time. Yes, if you miss it they will put you on the next available flight, but that may not be until the next evening.

  • International connection
    May 21, 2015
Hi there. I'm going to be traveling through Houston in December with my two children. We arrive on NZ28 at 1:15pm in Terminal D, and then connect to UA2917 in Terminal A. I'm slightly concerned about the connection, as I've heard customs can have long wait times in Houston. (Plus, Air NZ will be very new to flying through Houston, so I can only hope that they'll be prepared for the extra influx of travelers.) We're US citizens, but my kids are both under 12. (I'm not sure if there's an age limit on the e-passport readers?) I was hoping that someone could tell us the best way of getting from terminal D to A, whether we'll need to go through security, and a rough guess at how much time it will take? Thanks for your help!! :-)

Yes, after you go through US Immigration and customs, everyone on a connection must go through security. I cannot flight a flight UA2917 - where are you flying to? There is no age limit to use the passport kiosks.

Thanks for your help. We're flying to St. Louis on a United Express flight.

  • 66 minutes to catch a flight?
    May 19, 2015
Hi, i have been booked on United YYZ-IAH, and then catching a connecting IAH-QRO. WIll I have enough time to clear security? Will i have to claim bags and re-check in?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will not have to claim your bags or go through security.
