I am arriving to Houston from Istanbul by Turkish Airlines and will fly to Austin by United. Which terminal I will be in Houston after arrival and which terminal I have to head for checking in to Austin. And what is the best way connecting the terminals within a short time?

You will arrive in Terminal D. If you purchased your tickets together Turkish should be able to tag your bags through to Austin and issue both boarding passes in Istanbul. You will have to claim your bags to go through Customs but if they are tagged through to AUS then you can re-check them at the transfer desk right after customs then proceed directly to security. You will depart from Terminal B or C.

Thank you for great help. Tickets are purchased separately. Houston- Austin leg is operated by United. I have to go transfer desk or I am gonna go to the terminal B or C and check in there?

You may be able to either re-check your bags at the Transfer desk (make sure you don't just hand them the bags and leave, make sure they are tagged to AUS first - some transfer desks have the capability to re-tag bags, some do not) or yes, you could take them on the Inter-Terminal Train to Terminal B or C and re-check them there.

Also, you could show your United confirmation to the Turkish agent in Istanbul. Since they are both in Star Alliance they should be able to join your bookings and tag your bags through to Austin, which would mean you can easily re-check them at the transfer desk, but may still have to get your boarding pass from United in Houston.

  • Enough time?
    Apr 21, 2015
My UA795 flight from SEA lands at 12:00 at IAH and my connecting UA 4503 flight to BTR leaves at 12:50. Boarding ends at 12:35. Is this enough time to make my flight? Do you recommend checking a bag?

That should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. Boarding doesn't really end at 12:35. In fact it barely will have started by then. The TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security. You will arrive in C or E and depart from A or B. You can check a bag.

  • Connection time from Terminal C to Terminal D
    Apr 20, 2015
We plan to flight to Frankfurt via Houston (IAH), but have only 79 mins for transferring flights. Having two kids, I am concerned about connection time. If we land at a gate in Terminal C, should we go through security again to get Terminal D? Is 79 minutes enough to catch our connecting flight, along with two kids? Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

No, you do not have to go through security between C and D, You can just walk between the two terminals. You should have plenty of time if your first flight is on-time.

  • International Flight/Time for Connection?
    Apr 21, 2015
We will be flying from Vancouver (Canada) to Atlanta, and our layover is in Houston. We arrive in Houston at 6:10 pm and leave on our next flight at 7:05 pm. With Houston being the first US city, I assume we will have to go through Customs there. Will we have to retrieve our luggage if we are on the same continuing airline (United)? Is there enough time to go through Customs and security, especially if we have to retrieve our luggage to do so, and still make the next flight? I was really surprised United scheduled such a short layover for such situation.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All Terminals are connected inside security by the TerminaLink train. you have enough time.

Thanks so much for the information! I am so much more relaxed now facing this trip. I appreciate you taking the time to inform me!

  • Arriving on United, leaving Air France
    Apr 19, 2015
I'm arriving from Denver on United at 1:30 pm and departing for Paris on Air France at 4:05 pm. Now that United will no longer check bags through on airlines not in their system, will I have enough time to to reclaim my bags, check in with Air France and make it to the gate?

That should be enough time if your United flight is on-time.

  • Can you walk from D to E?
    Apr 16, 2015
Can you walk behind security from Terminal D to Terminal E?

Yes, you can. However, if you are arriving in Terminal D, it means you will be arriving on an International flight and have to go through US Immigration and Customs, which means you will be outside security when that process is finished.

  • PTY To LA (New Orleans)
    Apr 16, 2015
Hello, We will be flying coming from Panama (PTY), Landing In Houston and then leaving to New Orleans (LA) with 2 adults and 2 children. Our proposed layover will be 1:25 minutes with United. Will there be enough time to catch the second flight?

That is 5 minutes shorter than the recommended time for that connection. However, it is likely possible and United flies lots of flights from IAH to New Orleans that you can be rebooked on if you miss your connection.

  • From Narita to Lima via Houston

    You need 90 minutes minimum.

  • 35 minute stopover time worry
    Apr 15, 2015
Hi I am travelling from Las Vegas to London via a 35 minute stopover at Houston, my terminals are C to E, will their be enough time to make the connection if my initial flight is on time?

Yes, barely. It leaves no time to spare if your flight from Las Vegas is late.

  • MEM to CUN
    Apr 14, 2015
Friends are flying from Memphis to join us on a flight to Cancun. The connection time between flights is 57 minutes. Will their bags be checked through to Cancun from Memphis? Will they have to clear security in IAH or will they just be able to go from the arrival gate to the international terminal? Is this enough time?

Their bags will be checked through to Cancun in Memphis. All they have to do in IAH is go from their arrival gate to your departure gate. The TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security. They should have enough time.

  • Best way to spend connection
    Apr 14, 2015
Hungry? Eat at Pappadeaux. In my opinion the best seafood restaurant there is. Go around the shops without spending money (everything is overpriced). And go to one of the many bars for a drink and get to know people. They got great bars at every terminal. last time I went I was watched a basketball game that ended right before boarding time.

  • enough time to clear customs for connection
    Apr 14, 2015
I arrive into IAH at 7:05AM on Spirit from San Jose, CR and have a connection at 8:45 AM with United. Is 1hr and 40min enough time to clear customs and make my connection? I will have a checked bag with spirit but can carry it on as a carry on with United so will not have to check a bag after customs...

Yes, that should barely be enough time, especially if you can check in online for your United flight before you leave Costa Rica.

  • Internal Gate C to Gate A

Arrive at Terminal C at Noon from Seattle, WA Connect Terminal A at 1250 to Lake Charles, LA Both flights with United. No customs. Is this giving enough time. Have two young kids to haul.

That should be enough time if the first flight is on-time. the TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security.

Hi, I will be flying from CUU (Chihuahua, Mex) to CMH (Columbus, Ohio) and connecting in IHA, no checked bags, is 1:38 enough for the connection? Thank you so much!

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Is 90 minutes enough for customs+connection?
    Apr 11, 2015
Hi there, I will be flying home from MUC (Munich), and connecting in IHA on Monday, June 15, 2015, at 2:00:00 pm. The flight home to YEG (Edmonton) leaves at 3:31:00 pm. Is this enough time (91 minutes) if I have a checked bag? Will I need to go through customs coming from Munich, Germany to Edmonton, Canada? Thank you sooo much!

I should mention that both flights are through the same airline, and that I've booked it all via a round trip. So if I miss my connection, I will be able to stay in IHA and wait for the next available flight, right?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will go through US Immigration and Customs but should not have to claim your bag as you are on an international to international connection, however, confirm that with agents in Munich and Houston. And yes, if you miss your connection you will be booked on the next available flight to Edmonton, possibly connecting in Denver to get there.
