  • Layover time for international to domestic terminal
    Apr 18, 2014
    5
My spouse and MIL landing at IAH by Qutar air line and changing their flight for departure to Dallas. Layover time is about 90 minutes, if both flights will in time. is 90 minute time, enough to complete all customs, security, US entry related formalities and transit with baggage from terminal D to Terminal E and then to terminal A for catching flight for Dallas? We do not have any idea about IAH. Please note that my MIL is senior citizen and aged lady. Can any one deliberate activities wise time needed and help us. Thanks in advance.

    It should be enough time.

International Arrivals at Terminal D go through secure corridors, walk across the sky bridges to adjoining Federal Inspection Services (FIS), where they will claim baggage & clear U.S. Customs; if continuing journey, re-check in bags at recheck counters and proceed to the Arrivals Lobby, where an escalator down to the Inter-Terminal Train will take you to your connecting terminal. Note: Terminal E is exclusively for United's International flights - its domestic flights are out of Terminals B (B gates) & C (C gates) which could look like this on your ticket: TB-B or TB; TC-C or TC). If indeed your connection to IAD is via Qatar, would be out of TE, a tunnel connects TD to TE. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iah, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text

Your Qatar flight arrives in Terminal D, which shares immigration with Terminal E. If you are flying American to DFW, that will depart out of Terminal A.

Dear. frapr14, can i have your e mail ID. I assume you have rich experience at IAH. Thank you very much for guidance.

You are right, flight arrives at TD, and AA to DFW depart from TA. From map it is learn that there is much distance between TE and TA, so i would like to know 90 minutes shall enough or not. What happens if QR 713 late by 10 to 15 minutes. shall all procedure can be completed within 1 hour, including transportation of baggage and moving TE to TA after processing customs/immigration. Thanks.

I am crazy worried that I have 35 min to get from C to B coming up in June. I don't yet have any "gate" information where my flight will come in at C, and then rush to B ... whatever gate. I have never used IAH before, is the train the fastest way to get to Terminal B?

Yes, the TerminaLink train is by far the best way to get from C to B.

Yes, that should be enough time. If you have to change terminals the TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security.

I have an Executive landing in Terminal C @ 4:44pm and departing Terminal A @ 5:36. What is the best way for him to get from C to A? Though he has Global Entry, would prefer that he stays within security.

The TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security.

  • BZE to IAH to DEN layover questions
    Apr 10, 2014

BZE to IAH to DEN. I'm trying to select a flight. Most of my options have short (35m) layovers or really long (11hr) layovers. I can't make it to the Belize airport for a late morning flight so that leaves me only one real option. I can fly from BZE to IAH have 2hr 22m then fly from IAH to DEN. I am assuming I'll have to do immigration, collect my bag, customs, recheck my bags before my next flight (right?) Is 2hr 22m enough time? If i miss my flight there isn't another one until the next day, but United said I could reschedule at no charge (i called them) Thanks!!

the 2hr 22m transfer time is quite sufficient. International Arrivals at IAH arrive either at Terminals D or E. From there they go through secure corridors, walk across the sky bridges to adjoining Federal Inspection Services (FIS), where they will claim baggage & clear U.S. Customs. To continue your journey, re-check in your baggage at the recheck counters and proceed to the Arrivals Lobby, where an escalator down to the Inter-Terminal Train will take you to your connecting terminal. (United uses Terminals A, B, C & E).

I'm looking to fly from Belize (BZE) to Denver (DEN). I have a layover at IAH. Is 2 hours enough time to go through security/customs and get to my next flight? Keep in mind I'm flying on a Friday :-/

Flying United. Don't know terminals. I haven't actually purchased a ticket. I want to make sure I'll have enough time first.

You will arrive from Belize in Terminal E. You will go through immigration, collect your bags, go through customs and re-check your bags. Then you will go through security. Your flight to Denver will depart from Terminal E, or more likely, Terminal C, which is connected to E.

i am arriving at terminal E from costa rica flying with united my connection flight is to Pittsburgh and i have a 1:50 to make it to the next flight i arrive on friday April 11

That should be enough time. All terminals at IAH are connected inside and outside security (you will be outside security after you clear customs and re-check your bags).

  • Is 1 hour and 20 minutes enough time to go domestic to international?

I will be traveling from Colorado to IAH to catch my International connection. I will be arriving in Terminal B and have only 1 hour and 20 mins to get to my gate in Terminal E. Is this enough time? and since i will be getting all my boarding passes in colorado, will i still need to check in when i arrive there? and also will i have to go thru all the TSA security again? As this usually takes lots of time. Thank you for you help as i have never flown thru IAH and am nervous with such a short layover.

No, all you have to do in IAH is go from your arrival gate. The TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security. You should have plenty of time if your first flight is on-time.

Thank you, Im glad that i can go from one terminal to next without security. Oh sorry one more question, since i will already be inside then i wont have to re check-in correct? I should be able to just go to my next gate in terminal E with the boarding passes i have? thanks again

Correct, you won't have to check-in again.

Thank you! Can't wait for my trip now.

My flight UA 059 arrives from Amsterdam at terminal E and my connecting flight UA 1565 to Costa Rica leaves from terminal E. Do I have to go through Immigration/Customs

Yes, you do. There are no "sterile" international->international connections at any U.S. airport.

thanks for your reply, I presume that my luggage can be labeled through so that I do not have to transfer my luggage myself

Even though your bags will be tagged through, you will have to claim them after clearing immigration, then go through customs, then re-check them with United at the re-check desk.

Hi, my flight arrives to Terminal D and I have 1hr 40mins to transfer to Terminal A. Will this be enough time? Thanks

What airlines are you flying? If you are arriving into Terminal D that means you're on an international flight, correct? I need more information.

We are flying from KC to Costa Rica. Our stop is in IAH with a layover of only 50 minutes. Will we have enough time to get to our flight? Will we have to recheck our bags?

Yes, if your flight is on-time that should be enough time. You won't have to do anything with your bags in Houston on the way to Costa Rica.

Thank you! one more question, both our flights are united so will we have to go through security again since it is an international flight?

No, you will not have to go through security. All gates at IAH are connected inside security.

We are flying from Chicago to Merida Mexico with a plane change at IAH. Were told by United that we will arrive in C and have to go to E. Told we will already be checked in internationally in chicago and will not have to go through any security in Houston. Is this correct? We only have and hour and 20 min.

Yes, that is correct, all you will have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which are connected inside security. If your first flight is on-time you should have plenty of time.
