  • Transit time feasable?
    Nov 10, 2016
On Sunday I am due to arrive from London Heathrow at 15:15 on United. I am scheduled to leave for Managua, again on United, at 17:35. I am UK National with valid ESTA. Can I make that connection. Any tips for the best way to get through immigration etc?

Yes, you can make that connection. Since you are on an International to International connection all on UA, you can use the Onestop immigration and customs counters.

  • How do I get to the other terminal
    Nov 9, 2016
Hi We arrive at Terminal A and need to get to Terminal D - How do we get there and how long will it take. Tks for your help.

If your bags are checked through then you take the Skyway, it should take less than 10 minutes. If you have to transfer bags yourself you take the Subway, it takes a bit longer and runs outside security.

I'm flying from Mexico (QRO) to Toronto (YYZ) all with United,. What is the process I must follow? Do I need to get my checked bags and re-check them in? Is 2h30m enough time? I read about a "Onestop" alternative but I don't quite understand if I apply to it since I have checked bags. Thanks in advance

Forgot to mention I'm mexican and I have tourist US and Canadian visa.

Yes, you can use Onestop since you are on an International to International connection all on United. You don't need to claim and re-check your bags.

  • 1 hour 57 minutes for transit
    Nov 8, 2016
Hi dear, I am a little but nervous for our transit. We will arrive on 13.55 hour on Houston Airport and we will departure to Cancun on 15.52. Do I need to claim my luggage? I read something about US Customs but what does this means? I never had a transit before and I never went to the USA. Thanks for your help!

    Flight is with United

Where are you flying into Houston FROM?

    From Amsterdam to Houston

I forgot to tell that I am Dutch and I applied for an ESTA already

Since you are on an International to International connection, you will not have to claim your luggage in Houston, but you will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security. You have enough time.

Okay, great! So you only have to claim your luggage en recheck when you have a national flight? When I am ready at US immigration, do I have to check-in for my second flight? Is everything clearly marked on the airport? I am sorry for all my questions but when I read this page yesterday(about all the people who missed their transit) I was totally stressed

Yes, everything is well marked. You should be checked in for and given boarding passes for both flights when you check in in Amsterdam.

  • 35 minutes layover sufficient?
    Nov 7, 2016
Fly UA arrive at Houston Terminal C (from San Antonio) at 1835, to catch another UA flight to Toronto departing 1910 at Terminal B. Can make it?

It's possible. It doesn't leave a lot of time to spare though. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

  • 30 Minute United Connection - Possible or No?
    Nov 6, 2016
Hi- we have a United flight from PHX to XNA that connects through IAH. The first flight from PHX to IAH arrives at 3:00pm and connecting flight leaves at 3:35pm. How likely are we to make this super tight connection? Not sure, as I don't frequently fly through IAH. Thanks for the help!

It's possible. You will likely arrive in Terminal C and depart from Terminal B. The Skyway train connects them inside security. You have a chance but everything will have to go perfectly.

  • Connecting Flight PGIA - IAH- LAX
    Nov 6, 2016
I'm traveling from Belize to Los Angeles and have a 1hr 40 mins connecting flight both with United Airlines. Is that enough time? What are the steps at the IAH airport? Is there an immigration officer just for connecting flights? Will i need to re-check my bags?

In Houston you will go through US Immigration (there are no special lines for connecting passengers, but you can use the kiosks if you are a US or Canadian citizen or repeat ESTA user), then claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal C. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Arriving to IAH from Mexico and departing to Dubai -different airlines
    Nov 5, 2016
Hello, my parents are arriving to Houston from Mexico at 11 am (united airlines) and taking a flight to Dubai with Qatar airways at 6:30 pm. I think they have more than enough time to make it but can you please help me confirm the process they have to make and if it is necessary to change terminal? They don't speak english, is there any service to assist them in case they get lost? Thanks.

They will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim their bags, and go through US Customs. THen they will have to wait for the Qatar Airways check-in desk to open (at about 3:30). It will be in Terminal D. They will check their bags, go through security, and to their departure gate. D and E are really just two sides of the same building. It will be hard for them to get lost.

  • Connection from International to Local Flight
    Nov 5, 2016
Hi Arriving to IAH from San Jose Costa Rica and then taking a local flight to EWR (5h15m between flights), do I need to change terminals? Do I need to pick up my luggage and recheck or the airline forward the luggage for me?

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, immediately after, then go through security and to your departure terminal on the Skyway train. You will arrive in Terminal E and depart from Terminal C.

  • Concerns over connecting flight New Zealand->Houston->Atlanta
    Nov 5, 2016
Hi, I am flying in to Houston IAH from New Zealand AKL, I have 2 hours and 5mins once arriving in terminal D, I then have to connect another flight from Houston to Atlanta. Do I have to collect my luggage in customs in IAH and then run to check everything for my connecting flight in terminal B? or since air new zealand and united airlines are in alliance does that mean my luggage will be automatically be transferred over to my connecting flight? Do you think that I will make my connecting flight or is it too tight of a timeframe?

You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, immediately after, then go through security and to your departure terminal on the Skyway train. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

    Nov 7, 2016
Flying Calgary to Orlando with 1hour 25 minute stopover in Houston What will we need to do-united airlines

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Calgary. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Many thanks for the info Can you advise me how early we need to get to the airport in Calgary The flight is 0650 Normally would arrive at airport 3 hours before an international flight but I live in Australia

  • FRA to MSY through IAH
    Nov 3, 2016
Hi, I will fly in to IAH with LH from FRA arriving at 2:05pm at terminal D and will have a connecting flight to MSY with Spirit departing from terminal A at 5:53pm. I have checked bags. Is that a safe connection? Many thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. You will have to take your bags on the Subway train From Terminal D/E to Terminal A to re-check them with Spirit after you clear customs.

Many thanks for your swift response!

  • Tokyo to Tegucigalpa through Houston
    Nov 4, 2016
I habe a flight from Japan to Houston which arrives at 7:45 at terminal D and then a flight from Houston terminal E to Tegucigalpa (Honduras) which departs at 9:05. I bougth the whole flight with UA but first flight is operated by All Nipon Airline. Enough time for the connection? Do I have to re-check my bags?

    I have a diplomatic passport

Yes, you will have to claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. This is a very difficult connection, bordering on impossible.

I read that you don't have to claim your bags in International to International connection. Isn'r that right?

That's only if both flights are on United.

But my first flight has a UA number even if it's operated by ANA. Does that change anythinf?

No, it's an ANA flight, codeshare doesn't matter.

Ok. Thank you. I'll try to run as fast as possible

And if I can't make it, I understand UA has to put me in the next plane since they sold the ticket under those conditions

Yes, but be aware that there is only one Houston-Tegucigalpa flight per day. The only way you could be rebooked and get there that day is connecting on Avianca over San Salvador.

Would they give me that possibility? I was afraid I would have to sleep over and catch the plane the next day

It's possible if you pushed for it and specifically mentioned that routing.

  • Connect from London to LA in IAH
    Nov 2, 2016
We're coming from London to connect in IAH to get to Los Angeles through American Airlines, is 1.5 hrs enough to make it? thx

American doesn't fly from London to Houston or Houston to Los Angeles. Please double check your reservation.

It says AA operated by british airways (london to Houston) and AA operated by compass/american eagle (houston to LA)

OK, so yes, AA does fly Houston-LA. The first flight is operated by British Airways. You will arrive in Terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and take the Skyway train to Terminal A where you depart. This is a very difficult connection, but not impossible.

  • 35 minute layover
    Nov 1, 2016
going from OKC into IAH with only 35minutes to get on flight to Calgary. Will I be able to make the connection? Customs?

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. You have enough time if the first flight is on-time but it leaves no time to spare if it is delayed. If you have to change terminals the Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.
