  • Terminal B to Terminal C
    Jan 1, 2014
Arrive at 8:20 pm at Terminal B; Depart at 9:15 at Terminal C. Should we walk (run) it or risk waiting for shuttle? Thanks

You cannot run from Terminal B to C inside security. They are separate buildings. However, the TerminaLink train connects them inside security and is the much better option.

  • Change Terminals in 30 minutes?
    Dec 30, 2014
I fly into Terminal C and depart Terminal E. I only have a 30 minute layover. Can I make it if we are on time?

The gate areas of Terminal C connect to Terminal E after Gate C45: If arriving at gates C29-45 and transferring to Terminal E: walk towards gates C14-24 and proceed straight on to Terminal E.

  • Transferiing from Terminal D to A
    Jan 4, 2014
Dear Sir/madam, i'm arriving on Air France at Terminal D and then have a flight from Terminal A with Alaska Airlines. Can you tell me the quickest way to get to termiinal A from D, how i do it and how long the transfer may take. Thanks in advance for a reply.

The above-ground TerminaLink train, which starts its service at the Terminal A station, connects terminals A, B, C, D/E inside security (allow for 30 mins transfer from A to D).

Since you are arriving on an international flight it will take you a lot longer than 30 minutes to make your connection. As you will have to go through US Customs, claim your baggage, and go through customs. If your bags are checked through to your second flight you can then re-check them, but if they are not you will have to take them on the Inter-Terminal Train, which runs outside security, to Terminal A. What airline are you flying from Terminal A and how much time do you have for your connection?

I arrive at 14:15 and depart at 17:30 so have a 3:15 connection, flying alaska airlines

I will gave to clear customs and immigration and re check at IAH.

Yes, you should have enough time. If your bags are checked through to Alaska Airlines you can re-check your bags in Terminal D, otherwise you will have to take them on the Inter-Terminal Train to Terminal A.

  • United flights
    Dec 30, 2014
Hi we are flying from EWR a domestic flight united airlines and have a layover at IAH for Costa Rica an international flight also united. Is there enough time to transfer planes?

Well, you didn't post how much time you your itinerary currently allows, so I don't know if you'll have enough time. But you should arrive in Terminal C or E and depart from E, which is all connected beyond security.

44 minutes. Thank you for your help

Yes, if your first flight is on-time you should be OK.

    Thank you for being helpful

Hi. I am arriving to IAH from UK on 31 Dec 2013 at 2:05pm in UA 0920 and has only hand luggage. After I pass through security where do I go to get the inter terminal train to take to Terminal C. Please direct me. Thanks. Luz

You do not have to take the Inter-Terminal train to go from E to C. However, if your flight is not from C, the Inter-Terminal Train runs outside security and the TerminaLink train runs inside security. You can just follow signs to your departure terminal.

  • terminal b to d with bags
    Dec 19, 2013
Hi I have a connection from terminal b to d. I have 2 separate bookings and so my bags will not be transferred by airline. I have to pick nags and change terminal. How do I do that?

The Inter-Terminal Train runs between the terminals outside the secure area.

I read that that cart are not allowed in the train. So how would I take all the bags. I have 4 big bags, 2 carry on bags, 1 stroller 1 car seat, a lot of luggage. Thanks.

Buy a foldable luggage cart and pack it in your luggage.

  • Terminal transfer and connecting time
    Dec 19, 2013
I will be arriving from Guatemala City at 4:05 pm on United and making a connection to a United flight to Edmonton at 5:45 PM. Is there enough time to make the connection - 1 hr 40 min?

That will be tough. You will arrive in Terminal E where you will go through immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, and re-check them. You will then go back through security and to your gate which will likely be in Terminal C. It's possible, but your first flight will have to be on-time and you'll have to hurry.

  • terminal connection problem
    Dec 18, 2013
Hi, if i'm stopping in IAH for 40mins, do I have time totake the shuttle? will i have to go through security again if i do take the TerminaLink shuttle ? thank you

The TerminaLink runs inside security. You do not have to go through security if you need to take it to get between your gates.

  • 30 minute layover
    Dec 16, 2013
My 17 year old daughter is traveling from Knoxville, Tn to Honolulu on Christmas day. United has changed her flight into Houston and she now only has a 30 minute layover. I believe the Knoxville flight comes in at Terminal B and the HNL leaves out of E. She is not an experienced traveler. Can she make this?

If the first flight is on-time it is doable. All terminals at IAH are connected beyond security by the TerminaLink train, however, if there is an earlier flight, since there has been a schedule change, you can call United and have her moved to that, or you could possibly have her rebooked to connect in Chicago or Washington DC instead.

  • Carrier and Terminal Transfer
    Dec 17, 2013
I'm From Calgary, Canada, to San Jose, Costa Rica with my connection through IAH. Flying Air Canada to IAH and United from there. I've got a connection time of 61 minutes. Will that be enough time to transfer terminals and check-in with United at IAH? Should I check my bag or take a small one for carry-on?

If your tickets were bought on one reservation (and maybe even if they weren't) your bags can be checked through to San Jose in Calgary as both Air Canada and United are in Star Alliance. If that's the case or if you only take a carry-on, all you will have to do at IAH is take the TerminaLink train from Terminal A to Terminal E, which it connects inside security. If your first flight is on-time you will have enough time.

Hi so if I take the termiallink train from Ato C I won't have to go through security again? thanks

  • ORD to GUA via IAH (49minute layover)
    Dec 1, 2013
I'll be flying from Chicago-ORD to Guatemala City-GUA the day after Christmas. I have a 49 minute layover at IAH from Chicago to catch my connecting flight to Guatemala City. I am flying United, and both flights were booked on the same reservation. If all goes as planned I will only have a backpack and carry-on duffel to contend with--no checked bags. Is this likely to be enough time to make the connection (assuming no snowpocalypse)?

At IAH, United uses Terminals A, B, C & E (E for international flights). Absent incoming flight's delay, you should be able to make it on time. The above-ground TerminaLink train, which starts its service at the Terminal A station & connects terminals A, B, C, D/E inside security (30 mins transfer from A to D). However, If arriving at gates C29-45 and transferring to Terminal E: walk towards gates C14-24 and proceeds straight on to Terminal E (gates E1-24). Keep in mi that on your return you will need an extra half hour (minimum) for passport/ customs clearance.

P.S. D to E are connected by tunnel.

You will arrive in C and depart from D which are connected directly.

Sorry depart from E (still connected directly)

  • transfer time
    Nov 23, 2013
We have 2 hour and 15 minute transfer time for our flight from Panama via Houston to Amsterdam. Both flights are opperated by United (both from E terminal). We are very worried about comments and complains regarding the long lines at immigration. We cannot change our flight. Is 2 hours and 15 minutes enough transfertime? Does the airline offers us a later flight in case we would not be able to make it on time?

2 hrs 15 mins should be enough time. There is no later flight from Houston to Amsterdam. If you miss your connection they will either rebook you through another European hub where they may have a later flight or book you on the flight the next day. But again, you should have enough time.

  • Changing planes
    Nov 21, 2013
I have a 38 minute layover and plane change on United in Houston from Indianapolis on my way to San Jose Del Cabo the end of March. Is this enough time to switch terminals and have my bags transferred?

It doesn't leave much time for delays but if your flight is on-time it is enough time. If you arrive in terminal B you need to take the TerminaLink train to Terminal E for your departure. If your flight from Indy arrives in C you can walk to E. All gates are connected beyond security.

  • Ontairo, CA to Cancun
    Nov 15, 2013
I am flying from Ontario, CA to Cancun with a connection in IAH both ways. When do I go thru customs and is it easier if I only have carry on and no checked bag? I have about a 90 min layover both ways.

On the way to Cancun you will go through Mexican Immigration in Cancun. On that trip in Houston you will just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. On the return trip in Houston you will go through immigration, claim your checked baggage if you have any, then go through customs, then re-check your bag, then go through security and to your departure gate. So yes, on your return trip you will save a little time if you don't check a bag.

How much time is need to go thru customs in IAH from Mexico? With and without checked bags?

Maybe half an hour with bags and a few minutes quicker without. The biggest wait you'll encounter is usually at immigration (the first thing you come to).

  • domestic to international connection
    Nov 14, 2013
I am looking at a trip with a flight from Chicago to IAH, then with a 43-minute connection time from IAH to a flight to Villahermosa, Mexico. I will have a checked suitcase that will have to be transferred between planes. Will the 43 minutes be enough time? (This set of flights is being offered on the United Airlines website.)

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that is enough time. However, as United only has one flight a day to Villahermosa you will be stuck in Houston overnight if there is a delay and you miss your connection. Since the Villahermosa flight doesn't leave until late afternoon, I would try for an earlier flight into Houston to give yourself more leeway. You will likely arrive in Terminal C and depart from Terminal B which are connected via the TerminaLink train inside security.

Thanks for the info. I note that you preface your comment with "if your first flight is on-time." That caveat is found in many other responses to similar questions, and I quite understand it. But my big, and probably unanswerable, question is, What are the odds??

Since so many passengers are connecting, United does give preference to their Chicago-Houston flights and the weather in Houston is generally good and it isn't congested. Most United Chicago-Houston flights are on-time about 80% of the time.
