  • Terminal B to Terminal D with luggage

I will be arriving on a domestic flight with a toddler and a lot of luggage to terminal B. I will have to check in again at terminal D. Are there porters available to help me transfer the luggage from terminal B to D?

No, there will not, you could pack a foldable luggage cart or rent a smarte carte to take on the subway train to Terminal D.

Thank you for your response. So, I will be allowed to take the smart carte on the subway. That would help quite a bit. Thanks again.

I am travelling from SJO to Toronto via IAH. In Houston I land in terminal E and then leave to Toronto from Terminal A. I assume I have to collect my bags and clear U.S. customs. I only have 1 hour and 40 minutes. Is this enough time? It's a Sunday morning.

That should be just enough time. If your bags are tagged through to YYZ you should not have to claim them in Houston since you are on an International to International itinerary, but double check with the agents in Houston. you will still have to go through US immigration, customs, and security.

  • Arriving from Moscow Connecting to AMA- split tickets

Hello, I am about to purchase tickets for April to fly from Moscow to Houston on Singapore Airlines (arriving at 14:05) and a separate ticket from Houston to Amarillo on United (departing at 17:51) I will need to re check my luggage and get my boarding pass for the Amarillo flight. Will 3 hours and 45 mins be enough time to make that flight? Can anyone tell me what the process will be? Am I correct in assuming I will have to leave security to check in for the Amarillo flight? I am a US citizen.

Yes, that should be enough time. Yes, you will arrive in Terminal D, go through US Immigation, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. Then you will go to the United check-in counter in Terminal C, check your bags with United and get your United boarding pass and go through security and to your departure gate (which will likely be in Terminal B or A). Alternatively after clearing security. You could take the subway train to Terminal B or A (whichever you depart from) and check your bag and go through security there.

I've got 1 hour 10 mins connection time, does anyone know my arrival & departure terminals.

If both flights are on United they will both be in Terminal E, but you will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security. This is not a legal connection.

Hello, i'm traveling from PTY to SFO, my connection flight are IAH , i need to change from terminal E to C to connection , and it's only got 2 hours, is that enough since i need to claim the luggage and i saw the map there was only one claim place in the middle of terminal C. Could you please tell me what's the process i need to do one by one. first time to IAH, thanks!

You will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk right after, then go through security and walk to your gate in Terminal C.

    Thanks you sooo much!

Hi, I am looking at booking a flight from Austin to Cancun which connects through Houston (United) - connection time 1hr 16min. There is a note that I will have to change terminals, would this be enough time? We are Irish/UK - unsure when I will have to do immigration or customs

There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Houston. The SkyWay train connects all terminals inside security.

    Also, you have enough time.

    thanks for your help!

United changed our flight time and I have not accepted the change yet. We arrive in April on Skywest from Tucson and depart on Mesa Airlines to Miami with only a 42 minute connection. We are seniors. Will we make the connection? Thank you.

It is possible. It's likely both gates will be in Terminal B.

Flying from MSP-LIR, I only have 45 mins to transfer flights in IAH. Do I need to go through customs/immigration when departing the USA or just on arriving back in the USA? Will 45 mins be enough time to get to my flight?

There is no US immigration or customs when leaving the US. All you have to do in Houston on your way to LIR is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Is an 1 hour 25 mins enough time to get through on my way back? Or should I just play it safe with the 4 hour and 10 mins flight? Thanks!

  • Connecting Flight Time; Domestic and International

Hello, I have two flights, one from Houston to Baton Rouge, and then on return, one from Houston to Tokyo/Narita, each with about 45min to connect. Do you think I'll be able to conect in time? I have no checked baggage but I know one is domestic and the other international and I'm not sure how far I'll have to go. Thank you for your help!

I don't understand where your first connection is but on Baton Rouge-Houston-Tokyo you have just enough time. You will arrive in Terminal A or B and depart from Terminal E. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security and all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I'm travelling from Korea to Baton Rouge. On the way there I go through Houston and have 45min to catch my flight to Baton Rouge. On the way back to Korea I go through Houston and have 45min to catch my flight to Tokyo. Will both of these connections work?

On the way to Baton Rouge, if your arrival into IAH is an International Flight, no, 45 minutes is not enough. Are you entering the US in Houston or somewhere else?

On the way to Baton Rouge I'll be coming into Houston through San Francisco. So it's a domestic transfer.

Then you should have enough time for both of your connections.

How about on the way out? I go from Baton Rouge, to Houston, to Tokyo. Can I make a 45min Houston to Tokyo transfer?

Yes, I responded to that in my first reply.

Thank you for all of your help and I apologize again for the confusion.

Flying Phoenix to Cozumel through IAH with only a 41 minute connection. Is this enough time?? Do they hold planes for connecting passengers?

That's enough time if your flight from Phoenix is on-time. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. No, they don't hold planes.

Thank you! And thank you so much for this helpful site!

  • GIG-IAH-YYC Terminal E Priority Lanes
    Jan 21, 2016

Hi, we are flying GIG-IAH-YYC, on UA and AC respectively. We have 95 minutes to connect which I know will be very tight considering the number of international flights that arrive between 5:00 and 6:00 AM. I know we need to clear customs, pick up baggage, recheck it and get to Terminal A. We are flying business class on UA into IAH and I was wondering if there are priority lanes through immigration and/or security. Just looking to see if there are any business advantages to help optimize our time transiting. We are both Canadian, with no status on UA or AC, nor do we have Nexus. Just business class seats on both flights. Thanks

You will get off the plane first but business class passengers don't get priority immigration lines. However, since you are a Canadian citizen you can use the immigration kiosks. You will also have access to priority security lines after clearing customs. Also, since you are on an International to International connection you should not have to claim your bags in Houston, but confirm that with the agents there.

Awesome. Thanks for the information. Cheers

Hi, we are traveling from Mexico to Fukuoka, Japan; and the flight connection is at IAH (departing to Tokyo). Will this be a problem if we don't have a visa to enter the United States?

What country are you a citizen of?

When do I have to go through customs. In EWR or IAH in order to go to Colombia?. Is 50 minutes enough time?. flying on United

There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. You will go through Colombian immigration and customs when you get to Bogota. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate in C or E to your departure gate in E. You should have enough time.

So, there is no problem to change betwen national and international flight?. DonĀ“t I have to register that I leave the country?.

The airline records your passport number when you check in and you show your passport to the gate agent when you board your flight to Bogota. The airline reports that to the immigration agency and that's how they know you left the country. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Thank you so much!!!!

  • Is 2 ours enough layover

Im arriving from Aukland into Houston at 1315 and scheduled to depart domestic at 1519 the same day headed to Atlanta. Is 2 hours enough time to clear customs, recheck bags, and checkin at my next gate in time to board>

That should be enough time. You should be checked in for both flights and issued both boarding passes in Auckland assuming all tickets are on the same reservation.

They are not on the same reservation. But I am sure I can checkin online poor to departure from Aukland. I would likely only have to pick up my boarding pass at the gate in Houston. Is that correct thinking?

You will need your boarding pass for your Atlanta flight before you go through security in Houston - so you will need to get it at the ticket counter, or better yet, print it out or get it on your mobile device before leaving Auckland.

I have the same route but going to Orlando. Will 1.5 hrs be enough time? It departs out of term C
