I have a flight from FRA to Cancun via Houston. I have 2 hours in Houston, will this be enough time to make the Connection?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Just wondering if our 1h 6min layover time is sufficient to catch our our flight to Calgary, coming from New Orleans into Houston on Jan. 5, 2016.

    All flights on United, btw.

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates in Houston are connected inside security.

Hello. I am concerned about my connecting flight in IAH. I have 1 hour 30 min to get from Terminal E to terminal A. Do I have to go through security, if so do I have enough time? And do I have any other obstacles to get through?

trying to figure out how much of a layover is needed for vacatin. going from slc to houston, the cancun, just a terminal change is needed. i'm guessing this can happen in and hour and 15 minutes. coming home from vacation though, coming from cancun with a stop in houston then on to salt lake. am i understanding it right that i will have to collect checked baggage, go through customs, the recheck for my final destination? is and hour and a half feasible? or should i take a longer layover? thanks!

Yes, on your way to Houston all you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, but on your way back you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, and go through security in Houston. 90 minutes is considered the bare minimum to do that. If longer is feasible I recommend it, but 90 minutes is possible.

    great. that helps! thanks!

  • AMS-IAH-DFW transfer time
    Nov 17, 2015
I am planning on flying from Amsterdam to Dallas on December 28 with United Airlines. I will have to transfer at Houston International Airport in the afternoon. Would 2 hours be enough transfer time, or do I need more time to get through customs, pick up luggage and to the proper gate.

2 hours should be enough time, although that will be a busy day. If a 3 hour connection is available I might opt for that instead.

Thank you for the quick reply! There is a 3.5 hour connection available. I might just opt for that and have a bite at the airport. Would the Tuesday 29th be less busy?

They'll be about the same busy-ness.

  • BA Terminal E 6.30pm -> Spirit Terminal A 9.05pm
    Nov 16, 2015
Is there enough time to clear custom and immigration, change terminal and get to our Spirit flight to SAN at 9:05 if we arrive on BA at 6:30? Thanks Nadir

It's possible but leaves very little time to spare. Once you claim your bags and clear customs you will take the "Subway"/"Inter-Terminal Train" outside security from Terminal D to Terminal A to re-check your bags with Spirit.

  • Flight from Honduras to London through IAH

We have a flight booked with United from Tegucigalpa to London on Dec 23. There is a layover in IAH of 2hrs 30 min. Will that be enough time to catch connection to London? Do we have to claim and recheck baggage?

Yes, that should be enough time. You should not have to claim and re-check your baggage although you should confim that with the United agents in London and Houston. You will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security.

I am flying from Frankfurt to Lima via Huston. Is it possible to have my bag checked in through to Lima? I have 1:55m to get from gate to gate. will that be enough?

United does have International to International baggage in place in Houston but confirm it with the United agents in Frankfurt and Houston. You will still have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security. You should have enough time as long as your flight from Houston is on-time.

Yeah just for the record... there is not international to international anything in Huston. I checked in Fra and with the United agent on the phone and they both told me that the time is enough and that I would be fine. However I packed in a carry on and my colleague ,made the mistake to check in the bag - I made it to Lima as scheduled, he did not.. cause the baggage claim was sooo slow he missed the flight to Lima :(

  • Costa Rica to Houston to Dallas
    Nov 13, 2015
My flight got changed by United. My incoming flight from Costa Rica arrives at 7:57pm. My outgoing flight to Dallas leaves at 9:15pm. Is that enough time to clear customs in the late evening? All flights are United and booked under the same ticket, so I would think they will handle the luggage transfer.

You will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal B or C. It's barely enough time as long as your flight from Costa Rica is on-time. That short of a time is only possible because as you said, it's fairly late in the evening and there shouldn't be long lines.

I have to get my bags? United doesn't handle the transfer?

Your bags will be tagged through to Dallas but you have to claim your bags to bring them through US Customs in Houston. This is a federal law. You can then re-check them at a re-check desk right after.

  • Houston to Mexico City

Flying United Toronto-Denver-Houston-Mexico City on the downward leg and only have 38 minutes to make the connection in Houston arriving terminal c departing terminal e , IS THIS ENOUGH TIME. Thank you PS flying close to xmas this was the best I could do.

It's possible as long as the first flight is on-time.

  • from san josé to toronto

Hi ! Will be traveling from san josé costa rica to Toronto, CA, connecting in houston. Do I have to recheck my luggages ? And if so where can I get them...is it somewhere special for connection flight?s

You should not have to claim your baggage in Houston because you are on an international to International connection, but confirm that with the United agents in Houston when you arrive.

When you arrive at the international terminal in Houston from sjo you will be in an enclosed area that will force you through immigration then baggage claim carousel then customs then recheck then you go back through security. No one will force you to pick up your bags. But if you want them to have the best chance of traveling with you then definitely pick them up and recheck them.

Hi, I may be flying through Hoston to San Jose coming from London. the connection time is very short, (75 min)but I will be flying business class and with only carry on. Does the airport have priority lanes for immigration and customs for business travellers?

There is a priority lane because you will not have checked baggage and you will be the first off the plane. There will also be a priority line at security because you are business class. You should have barely enough time if your flight from London arrives on-time.

  • Houston to Costa Rica
    Nov 8, 2015
Hi, do I have enough time to get my connecting flight, I arrive in Houston at 16:25 and depart to Costa Rica at 17:40? I'm concerned it does not give sufficient time to go through all checks and get to the departure gate?

As long as your first flight is domestic and both tickets are on the same reservation then there are no "checks" before your flight to Costa Rica. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

thank you for your reply. I forgot to mention the flight is from London to Houston, would this mean there would have checks once arriving in Houston and before getting to the departure gate?

In that case, then yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, US Customs, and Security in Houston and that 90 minutes is the bare minimum for that connection, you have 15 minutes too little to make your connection.

  • Houston to Las Vegas connection
    Nov 14, 2015
I arrive into Houston at 5am and need to depart for Las Vegas at 6:30am. The arriving and departing flights are both with spirit airlines but booked separately. Is this enough time? I don't know if I can ask at San José, the departing airport, to have my bag sent all the way to Vegas. And is there anything I can do to get through customs etc faster and make the 6.30 connection?

Since you purchased two separate tickets you will have to claim your bags in Houston and bring them to the re-check desk there. You will also have to change terminals. I think this connection is pretty much impossible.

Oh :( that is not what I wanted to hear. Well I feel silly. One more thing, the arrival terminal is written as "M" on my ticket but Houston airport apparently only has terminals A to E? I'm confused about that.

Spirit international flights arrive in Terminal D. However, all of their departures are in Terminal A.

Thanks for your advice. Do you know if it's possible to request Spirit to have bags sent all the way from San Jose to Vegas? Even if it involves a fee. This is my last idea!

(I already wrote to Spirit over a week ago about that and received no reply, so just in case you know if it's something they allow or not)

The Spirit agent will not be able to check your bag through to Las Vegas. They also don't respond to emails.

Actually since it is the same airline they can through check bags on two separately purchased tickets but you will be required to present the other ticket not just itinerary. Electronic tickets have an actual ticket number. Generally around 16 digits. They can legally through check as long as you provide the ticket number. And FYI it doesn't have to be the same airline as long as the two airlines have an agreement. For example you could through check with united and delta but not united and southwest.

We are arriving from Newark to Houston and have 40 min to change terminals to get a flight to Costa Rica. Need to change from Term C to Term E. Do I have to get the train? Can we walk (run)? How far?

You can walk from C to E. You have enough time if your Newark flight arrives on-time.

  • Toronto-IAH connection- Costa Rica
    Nov 7, 2015
I have a 51 min connection time, coming in from Toronto, end destination Costa Rica. Will this be sufficient time to make my connection? Will I depart the same terminal as arriving? thanks!

You will arrive in Terminal A, B, or C and depart from Terminal E. All terminals are connected inside security by the Skyway train, formerly called the Terminalink. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto.
