Arriving gate A and departing gate C with 40 minutes. Easiest way?

The skyway train connects all concourses inside security. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

So if I read map correctly, I arrive on level 2, take escalator to level 3 for train?

Yes, that is correct. There are lots of signs for the train.

I fly from Lima to IAH into terminal E, I have a 1hr 35min connection, next flight is out of terminal C to Calgary AB, Canada.....is this sufficient time? will I need to clear security in IAH? Thank you in advance for the advise

Yes, in Houston you will have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security. You have just enough time if everything goes perfectly.

Thank you ZAP for the quick reply

Hello, trying to buy ticket from IAH getting in at 4:54 from Honduras. What is earliest flight I should book, have to switch airlines as Spirit doesn't go to PHX in the evening. How much time to do customs and recheck into another airline?

I would want a minimum of 3 hours, preferably a little more.

Hi, I am travelling from YUL (montreal) on air canada to IAH. I am then switching to United to go to BZE (Belize City). I will only have carry-on items. Is a 1h20m layover enough time?

Yes, that is enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in Houston is go to your departure gate. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply! One more question if you don't mind - I am pretty new to flying. Where will I be getting my United Ticket? Will I get it when I get my Air Canada ticket? Or do I just need to go to the gate with my itinerary? Thanks

Air Canada should be able to issue both boarding passes in Montreal. If they can't then you can get your second boarding pass at the gate in Houston.

Perfect! You have yourself a great day :)

You will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration and Customs and security and then go back to your departure gate, also in Terminal E. If both flights are on United on the same reservation then you should not have to claim and re-check your bags.

Thank you for your reply and also the same one more question. If I fly with Delta airlines from Quito(UIO) to Japan (NRT), I will have connection flight at ATL. Which terminal I will arrival to? and Do I need to go through immigration?

If you connect through Atlanta, both flights will be in the International Terminal. The process is the same except that you will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs, then re-check them immediately after at the re-check desk.

  • 35 minute flight connection

Hi my mom has to make a connection from Houston to Tampa throught Southwest Airlines but only gives her 35 minutes to do so, I dont know the gates yet but she arrives in Houston from El Paso TX around 9:30 pm. Will that be enough time??

Note that you posted this in the forum for Houston-Intercontinental airport. Southwest does not fly to that airport. They fly to Houston-Hobby which is much smaller. She should have enough time if her first flight is on-time.

Hi! Thank you for replying so fast. After I wrote the comment I realized there are two airports in Houston and saw she is arriving in HOU (Hobby Airport) im glad she'll have enough time. It's her first time flying alone and her English isn't too great so she's very nervous about those 35 minutes she has to make the flight connection. Thank you again!

  • International Connecting from Canada (YVR) to SFO to IAH to Costa Rica

I am trying to book flights from Vancouver, BC to San Jose, Costa Rica via United. The flight goes from Vancouver to San Francisco international (2 hour 34 minute layover - which I am thinking is sufficient) and goes to Houston International (IAH). Once I arrive at IAH, it says I have 52 minutes to connect to my flight to Costa Rica. Is 52 minutes enough time for this connection? I am unsure if I have to go through U.S. Customs again since this is my first time connecting through 2 airports in the U.S. on my way to San Jose. Thank you for your help!!

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver and there is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. In Houston all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • Lima to Toronto with connection in Houston

Hello - I have a flight departing Lima, Peru and arriving in Houston at 7:15 am arriving in Terminal E. I then have a 1 hr 35 min layover, and will be departing from Terminal B to Toronto at 8:45 am. I know that I will have to go through US Customs - but I've read conflicting messages on whether I will have to recheck my luggage in Houston. Is the 1 hr 35 min enough time to clear customs and change terminals? Thank you

If both flights are on United you shouldn't have to claim and re-check your bags. You barely have enough time if everything goes perfectly.

I'm flying from London to Cancun with United via IAH. I have a 2hr 20min connection, will that be enough? Will I need to pass security/immigration or recheck my bag? Thanks

That should be just enough time. You will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security but should not have to claim and re-check your bags since you are on an International to International connection on United through Houston.

Arriving from LHR on British Airways at ~6:45pm with separate booking on AA onward to PHX with departure at 9:15pm. BA no longer interlining baggage on OneWorld partners. Given that, 1. Want to confirm we cannot use ReCheck desk after clearing customs and must take tram to AA counters at Terminal A to check bags and issue boarding passes. 2. Is our layover sufficient for this? We have Global Entry and TSA pre, if that makes a difference. I believe our PHX connection is last flight of the day so not sure we can give ourselves any more cushion even if we want to. Thanks for help!

Yes, if your bags are not tagged to PHX you cannot use the re-check desk. You have to take the Subway Train to Terminal A to re-check your bags at the AA ticket counter. With Global Entry you should have enough time.

Travelling to Cancun, Mexico, from Zurich, Switzerland, stopping at Toronto and Houston. Is a 51 minutes layover enough To go through customs/immigration and catch my next flight? I'm travelling from Toronto to Cancun with Ubited, will I have to re-check my checked luggage?

United, not Ubited. Also forgot to specify the 51 minutes layout is in IAH

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You don't have to do anything with your luggage. You should have enough time.

Hi ZAP, thanks for the quick reply. I'm quite nervous as this is my first time travelling out of Europe, and I'm all on my own. I'm worried about the risky connection, but if it's how you told me, I shouldn't experience big issues.

Yes, it's actually quite unusual, upon arrival in Toronto you will Proceed directly to US Immigration and Customs Preclearance without going through Canadian Immigration. So at that point you will have legally entered the United States even though you are still in Canada.

Hi, I have a flight in December from Singapore to Dubai to Houston with Emirates. Will arrive at Houston (Terminal E it seems) at 15:50. I have a layover of 1hr 45mins. Thereafter I have a flight with United to San Luis Potosí at 17:35. Will there be enough time? I believe I most likely have to recheck in the luggage. Since they are seperate bookings. But I'm not sure if I need to go through US customs. Hope to hear from you soon. Many thanks in advance!

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then take your bags on the Subway train to Terminal B, re-check your bags, and go through security. That is not reasonably enough time to do all that.

Hi Zap! Thanks for the prompt reply... How much time do you think would be enough? The other flight I know is from SIN to Moscow (reaches Houston at 14:15 with Singapore airlines) to Houston (leaves at 17:35 with United) then to Mexico. That would be a layover of 3hrs 20mins. It's also 2 seperate reservation. Would it be the same? I have to go through the US immigration, claim my bags, go through US customs, go to the other terminal and re-check bag and through security? Would the 3hrs 20mins now be enough?

Yes, the procedure would be the same but 3+ hours should be enough time.

    Thanks a lot ^_^!

  • Flying to San Salvador, connecting through IAH

Hi, I am flying out to San Salvador from London, United Kingdom. Flying on British Airways arriving at IAH Terminal E. I have a 2hr 35min layover and will be flying with Avianca from IAH to San Salvador. Flights are all on one booking. If I check in my bags in London, would I need to collect at IAH and re-check them in? Thanks

You will arrive in Terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, also in Terminal D.

I'm travelling from NZ in February - arriving in IAH at 1:45pm. I am connecting to FLL, flight leaves 3:45pm. Will this be enough time to clear customs? Arrival at IAH looks to be Terminal D. Do you know which terminal the FLL flight is likely to depart from and if 2.0 hours is enough to connect? Thank you!

Your flight to FLL will depart from Terminal C. 2 hours should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly and is on the same reservation.
