  • Enough connecting time??
    Dec 7, 2015

This is a repeat of other questions, but thought the answer could vary depending on the destination. I have a United flight BWI to IAH connecting IAH to EZE on one ticket. Our connecting time has changed and now we only have one hour and four minutes. There is no other non-stop out of BWI. Will I need to change terminals? Is this going to be "by the skin of our teeth" I am flying on miles and getting another flight will be impossible. Thanks

You may need to change terminals but all gates at IAH are connected inside security. You will comfortably have enough time if your flight from BWI is on-time. Actually you can change an award ticket for free as long as there is still availability in the same buckets you reserved the ticket in (Saver or Standard).

I am flying in from Auckland, with a 2 hr connection to Panama - will I make this connection? Do I need to immigrate, collect bags & re-check? Thanks

You will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security. You will have to check about the bags. IAH does have a program where you don't have to claim your bags if you are on an international to international connection, but that may only be in place if both flights are on United. You should have just about enough time.

  • Layover time

Flying BNA - IAH - CUN with a 54 minute layover in IAH - both flights with United. Do I have to change terminals and will I have to rush to connect to the second flight - assuming first flight on time

That is enough time. You probably will have to change terminals as you will likely arrive in Terminal B and depart from Terminal E. The Terminalink/Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

  • Houston to Denver

I am arriving from Guatemala City at 3:59 pm and leaving for Denver at 5:48 pm on Wednesday, January 6. I have to change terminals and go thru customs. Is this enough time?

That should be just about enough time if everything goes smoothly. If your flight from Guatemala is delayed United flies almost hourly flights from Houston to Denver that you can be rebooked on.

Hello, we have a 100min connection time arriving from San Jose and departing to Frankfurt, both in Terminal E and with UNITED AIRLINES. Can you tell me if it is time enough ? Thank you very much.

That should be just about enough time. You will have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security in Houston.

We arrive in Houston from San Jose at 5:42 am and depart to Calgary ab at 7 am both united airlines. We have checked baggage. Arriving at terminal e and departing terminal a. Do we have time? Thanks in advance.

Arriving that early in the morning it should be possible even though the minimum international to international connection time in Houston is 90 minutes. Once you go through security you will take the Skyway/TerminaLink train to Terminal A where you will depart.

so we don't get our bags and clear customs? thank you!

United has International to International bags in Houston where you don't have to claim your bags to go through customs if you are connecting to an International flight. However, since your second flight is on Air Canada (if it departs Terminal A it's on Air Canada) you may want to ask the agents in Houston.

Am arriving from auckland into houson and then traveling on to indiana. Is 80minutes enough time to clear customs with a hand carrybag and change terminals

It's possible but difficult. It wouldn't be possible with checked baggage.

We have a 3 hr layover for a flight to NZ after arriving. (United flight) Will we have ample time to collect our luggage, check in at ANZ and go through security and make our flight? We can't check through from departure city.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. It's usually faster to walk from T7 to the International Terminal vs. taking the shuttle.

  • Enough time?

My family will fly from DCA (Washington National) to LIR (Liberia, Costa Rica) via Houston. United is allowing us to book a flight with a 40 min connection. Is that enough time? Do we check in for an international flight in DCA? Thank you!

You will receive both boarding passes and your bags will be checked through to LIR at DCA. All you have to do in Houston is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time but it doesn't leave much time to spare for any delays.

  • Tight connection

When I booked my flight to Belize from NYC, I had a 1 hour layover to make connection in Houston. Now United has extended the first leg flight time by 30 min. giving me only 30 min. to make my flight. Can I change my flights (without penalty) since my layover time was shortened by United?

Yes, you can call United, say that there was an "Involuntary schedule change" and that you'd like to be rebooked on an earlier flight from NYC and there should be no additional charge. This assumes you aren't already on the first NYC-Houston flight of the day. You may even be able to get them to rebook you on a nonstop Newark-Belize flight if there is one offered that day.

  • United BZE IAH to WestJet IAH YLW

Thanks in advance for your help! I have exactly 2 hours to change flights in IAH. I arrive at 1500 from BZE with United and must connect to a flight to YLW at 1700 with WestJet. They are two separate reservations. I will tryto have cary-on only and will check-in ahead of time for the WestJet flight. Can it be done?

With no checked baggage I think it's possible, especially if you are already checked in for your Westjet flight. You will have to take the "Subway"/"Inter-Terminal Train" from Terminal E to Terminal A and go through security there. With checked baggage you are correct in your assessment that this probably wouldn't be possible.

I have a flight LHR-IAH arriving 18:15 My connection (international) departs at 19:30 The tickets are on the same reservation. Both flights operated by United. Although the first booking uses a codeshare code. Will I have to go through customs etc (British national)? And will be bags be transferred? Sorry, I'm sure you're sick of the repeat questions but do you think this is enough time to make the connection?

Yes in Houston you need to go through US Immigration, US customs, and security. It will be very difficult if not impossible to make that connection in only 75 minutes. 90 minutes is the minimum and 2 hours is recommended.

Thank you! It's frustrating that it's possible to book such a connection if the chances of making it are so slim! I will change my reservation. Thank you

  • PDX to Mexico

I'm flying from PDX to Merida, Mexico and have a 55 min stop in IAH to get from Terminal C to E and change planes. Both flights are United, will this be enough time? Do I have to go through immigration?

There is no US Immigration when leaving the US. All you have to do in Houston is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Flight from Amsterdam to Lima
    Nov 27, 2015
    3
We will fly next Thursday from Amsterdam to Lima with Lufthansa operated by United. We will arrive at 2 p.m. in Houston, connecting flight (also United) will be at 4 p.m. Is this enough t ime to change? We have been told that we have to Claim our bags, you through Immigration and customs and have to pass sercurity and check-in again. I am afraid that we will miss our flight, as I think that we will not be in time for Boarding.

That should be enough time. Note that since you are on an International to International connection through Houston with United you should not have to claim your bags, but confirm that with the United agents in Amsterdam and Houston. You will still go through US Immigration, customs, and security. You will be issued both boarding passes in Amsterdam so you won't have to "check in" again.

Thank you. But what if we are really getting late, is there anything like a fast lane for immigration or security for transit passengers?

No there is not. Most passengers on your flight will be transit passengers.
