  • LHR - CUN via IAH

I'm flying from London to Cancun with United via IAH. I have a 2hr 20min connection, will that be enough? Will I need to pass security/immigration or recheck my bag? Thanks

That should be just enough time. You will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security but should not have to claim and re-check your bags since you are on an International to International connection on United through Houston.

Arriving from LHR on British Airways at ~6:45pm with separate booking on AA onward to PHX with departure at 9:15pm. BA no longer interlining baggage on OneWorld partners. Given that, 1. Want to confirm we cannot use ReCheck desk after clearing customs and must take tram to AA counters at Terminal A to check bags and issue boarding passes. 2. Is our layover sufficient for this? We have Global Entry and TSA pre, if that makes a difference. I believe our PHX connection is last flight of the day so not sure we can give ourselves any more cushion even if we want to. Thanks for help!

Yes, if your bags are not tagged to PHX you cannot use the re-check desk. You have to take the Subway Train to Terminal A to re-check your bags at the AA ticket counter. With Global Entry you should have enough time.

  • 51 min

Travelling to Cancun, Mexico, from Zurich, Switzerland, stopping at Toronto and Houston. Is a 51 minutes layover enough To go through customs/immigration and catch my next flight? I'm travelling from Toronto to Cancun with Ubited, will I have to re-check my checked luggage?

United, not Ubited. Also forgot to specify the 51 minutes layout is in IAH

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You don't have to do anything with your luggage. You should have enough time.

Hi ZAP, thanks for the quick reply. I'm quite nervous as this is my first time travelling out of Europe, and I'm all on my own. I'm worried about the risky connection, but if it's how you told me, I shouldn't experience big issues.

Yes, it's actually quite unusual, upon arrival in Toronto you will Proceed directly to US Immigration and Customs Preclearance without going through Canadian Immigration. So at that point you will have legally entered the United States even though you are still in Canada.

  • SIN - DUX - IAH - SLP

Hi, I have a flight in December from Singapore to Dubai to Houston with Emirates. Will arrive at Houston (Terminal E it seems) at 15:50. I have a layover of 1hr 45mins. Thereafter I have a flight with United to San Luis Potosí at 17:35. Will there be enough time? I believe I most likely have to recheck in the luggage. Since they are seperate bookings. But I'm not sure if I need to go through US customs. Hope to hear from you soon. Many thanks in advance!

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then take your bags on the Subway train to Terminal B, re-check your bags, and go through security. That is not reasonably enough time to do all that.

Hi Zap! Thanks for the prompt reply... How much time do you think would be enough? The other flight I know is from SIN to Moscow (reaches Houston at 14:15 with Singapore airlines) to Houston (leaves at 17:35 with United) then to Mexico. That would be a layover of 3hrs 20mins. It's also 2 seperate reservation. Would it be the same? I have to go through the US immigration, claim my bags, go through US customs, go to the other terminal and re-check bag and through security? Would the 3hrs 20mins now be enough?

Yes, the procedure would be the same but 3+ hours should be enough time.

    Thanks a lot ^_^!

  • Flying to San Salvador, connecting through IAH
    Jul 13, 2016
Hi, I am flying out to San Salvador from London, United Kingdom. Flying on British Airways arriving at IAH Terminal E. I have a 2hr 35min layover and will be flying with Avianca from IAH to San Salvador. Flights are all on one booking. If I check in my bags in London, would I need to collect at IAH and re-check them in? Thanks

You will arrive in Terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, also in Terminal D.

  • AKL (NZ) - IAH - FLL
    Jul 12, 2016
I'm travelling from NZ in February - arriving in IAH at 1:45pm. I am connecting to FLL, flight leaves 3:45pm. Will this be enough time to clear customs? Arrival at IAH looks to be Terminal D. Do you know which terminal the FLL flight is likely to depart from and if 2.0 hours is enough to connect? Thank you!

Your flight to FLL will depart from Terminal C. 2 hours should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly and is on the same reservation.

  • Connecting Flight to DFW
    Jul 12, 2016
We arrive at IAH at 9:15pm from Grand Cayman and depart at 10:28 for DFW. Will we have enough time to make our connecting flight to DFW?

With the late evening arrival, I won't say it's impossible, even though it's shorter than what I usually recommend at IAH. However, it's obviously still quite risky and if you miss your connection you will be spending that night at IAH.

  • Tight Connection
    Jul 12, 2016
I have a flight later this week that arrives from Brownsville at 12:15 PM and my connection is to a flight that leaves for Toronto at 12:50 PM. Today I see the same flights land at Terminal B19 and leave from Terminal B77. Is this possible to make it in less than 35 minutes?

Yes, if both flights are in Terminal B that is possible.

  • MSY -> IAH -> NRT
    Jul 12, 2016
I am travelling from MSY (New Orleans) through IAH to NRT (Japan) and I have 2hr transit time. I will be arriving IAH at Terminal C and departing from Terminal D. I need some advices; 1) Do I have enough time to transit between Terminal C to Terminal D? 2) How do I clear immigration? 3) Do I have to collect my checked in luggage and re-check in again? Thank you very much in advance for your help!

There is no US Immigration when leaving the US and if both tickets are on the same reservation then you don't have to do anything with your bags. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

Hi ZAP, thank you so much for the very helpful information! :)

  • Arriving Gate B 83 departing C 30
    Jul 12, 2016
I have to give my wife directions and timing, please help if you can

She will follow signs to the skyway train, take it to Terminal C, then follow signs to gate C30.

  • travelling with 2 bags
    Jul 12, 2016
I have a Korean Air flight that arrives from Seoul in Terminal E at IAH, but need to go to Terminal A for a connection to Atlanta with Delta. Can I bring my 2 bags on to the sky train, or do I have to walk? Thank you.

You will actually arrive in Terminal D, but that doesn't really matter. If both tickets are on the same reservation then you will re-check your bags at the re-check desk in Terminal D, then go through security and take the Skyway to Terminal A. If you have two separate reservations then you will take the Subway to Terminal A with your bags, re-check them with Delta there, then go through security.

What if instead of flying with Delta back to Atlanta, I fly with United? Can I check my bags in Terminal D with United after I finish immigration/customs paperwork? These two flights are not under the same reservation. Thank you so much!

  • LHR > IAH > LAX via UAL
    Jul 11, 2016
Flying from London Heathrow to LAX connecting at IAH all on UAL. I have 2 hrs 22 min to make the connection. And there is a Terminal change. Will I need to go thru US customs and retrieve my luggage and then recheck them? I would imagine 2 hrs 20 min is not very much time to do all this. Can anyone advise? Thanks!

There is no terminal change. You will arrive in Terminal 7, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

Sorry, I thought you were transiting at LAX. The instructions are the same, except that you arrive in Terminal E and depart from Terminal C, which are connected to each other.

Thanks @ZAP for your comments. Very helpful --- good to undestand what to expect. Hope we will have enough time.

  • IAH to El Paso
    Jul 11, 2016
I am flying United Express into IAH and have 42 to make my connection to another United Express flight to El Paso. Have no idea what gate I will be arriving or departing from. The flight is arriving into IAH at 9 p.m. Do I have sufficient time?

Both flights will likely be in Terminal B. You should have enough time if the first flight is on-time. If you do have to change terminals the Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

Is it difficult to find the train and to know when to get off? How long from A to B?

The train is well marked and there are announcements clearly announcing every terminal.

  • From c47 to A2
    Jul 10, 2016
I in seat 17c and will have 30 minutes to get from c47 to A2 will this be possible?

It's not impossible but leaves very little time if the first flight is delayed at all. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

  • Inter-terminal transfer from A to D
    Jul 10, 2016
I will be arriving in Terminal A on an American Airlines flight from DFW. Is it possible for me to transfer to Terminal D airside?

Yes, it is. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.
