  • Enough time to get to my next flight?
    Jun 8, 2015

Coming in from Seattle, WA and will be at IAH around 6:40AM. My connecting flight to Shreveport, LA will begin boarding at 7:10AM. The flight itself will be departing at 7:35AM. I don't know which gate my Seattle plane will land into...but I know I have to be in the B area for Shreveport. Will this be enough time to make my flight?

You will likely arrive in Terminal C. The TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security. Yes, you have enough time if your flight from Seattle is anywhere close to on-time.

We will be traveling from Birmingham, AL to LAX in August. Is 36 minutes enough time for a layover. We would be flying United, but I am not sure which terminals we will be coming into or leaving out of. Thank you!

You will likely fly into Terminal B and out of Terminal C. All terminals are connected inside security by the TerminaLink train. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time but there's obviously little time to spare. If you do miss your connection, United has many flights from IAH to LAX that you can be rebooked on.

It will actually be from LAX to Birmingham. Will we still be ok?

Yes, same process but in reverse.

I will be flying from Rio de Janeiro to Rapid City, with the first to Houston. My flight arrives in Houston at 5:30 am, and come out to Denver at 8:10 am. I will have time to7vf my flight? What time starts the service of immigration? It will be better to reschedule because I am afraid not have time to go through security ???

Yes, 2.5 hours should be plenty of time. Immigration and security will not be crowded that early in the morning.

  • Terminal E to C for F1 visa Holder

I am arriving at Terminal E from LHR on United Airlines, and then have a flight to Dallas from Terminal C. Are Terminal C and E in the same building? How do you get from one to the other, especially with luggage? Also, if i am an F1 visa holder studying in Dallas, will I have to go through Immigrations and US Customs at IAH or Dallas airport?

Terminal C and E are connected to each other, so in a sense they are one building. In Houston, you will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, go to the departure level and go through security then go to your departure gate.

If I´m flying from Las Vegas to Guatemala and change plane in Houston, do I have to take my bags out again? or I just change plane? same terminal

Yes, you need to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

Hello I would like to know how far are terminals E and C. I have 2 hours when I land and would like to know how much time it will take me to go from from terminal to another? Do I have to go through US Inmigration, take my bags then check them and go through security again? do I have enough time?

Yes, you have the procedure correct if you are an international arrival. You should have enough time. Terminals E and C are directly connected to each other.

  • 45 min connection from TermD to TermE... Possible?
    Jun 5, 2015

Lufthansa/United think that I can land from Germany in TermD at 3:05pm and be on a flight departing to Mexico from TermE at 3:50pm! Do I avoid passport control by not stopping in the US... AND Is there a no-security link between TermD and TermE at IAH? Seems VERY tight to me. Expert advice please. Thanks!

They are wrong. That connection is impossible. You will have to go through US Immigration and security upon arrival.

Thanks for the confirmation ZAP. Now to go fight the airlines!

  • Only 40 minutes transfer time
    Jun 5, 2015

On 21 July we arrive from San Francisco on Houston airport and only have 40 minutes to catch our flight to Amsterdam. Both flights are with United Airlines. Will 40 minutes be enough for us (2 adults, 2 kids of 16 and 14).

Ow wait, I just noticed flight times changed, so now we have two hours. That should be enough.

Either should be enough but 2 hours obviously leaves a lot more to spare. All you have to do in IAH is go from your arrival gate in C to your departure gate in E.

  • Clearing Customs on Connecting Flight

I will be arriving in Houston as the first port of entry on a return flight from Puerto Vallarta. I am flying on the same airline, same plane...with 1hr 40min be enough to clear customs and get back on the plane?

Yes, that should be enough time. Be aware that there's a good chance that it WON'T be the same plane, even if it is the same flight number.

  • Security check
    Jun 4, 2015

Will the security check be in Terminal E or C if you walk between those terminalsfrom E to C? And from which level (Terminal E) can I walk to Terminal C?

If you arrive in E on a domestic flight you can just walk to C, no security required. If you arrive in E on an International flight. You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags. Then you will probably want to go through security in E and walk to C on the departures level. You can alternatively take the underground Inter-Terminal train to C and go through security there.

  • What is involved for passengers exiting secure area in Houston?
    Jun 3, 2015

If our friends (have time and) want to exit security to visit with us briefly between their (domestic) United LAX-IAH flight and their connecting (international) United IAH-PTY flight, will they be allowed to leave the secure area? If so, will they have to do anything other than go back through security? Thanks.

Yes, they can leave security and go back through. They just need to remember to bring their IAH-PTY boarding pass with them to do so.

Thanks, ZAP! And thank you for such a quick response.

Hello, can some one tell me if 50 minutes of layover time is enough, I am flying from Indianapolis to Houston then Houston to Aguascalientes Mexico I am not sure which gates I couldnt find the info.

That should be enough time. You will arrive in Terminal B or C and depart from Terminal B. All Terminals are connected inside security by the TerminaLink train.

  • 1HR 47 Layover

We fly London Heathrow to Houston Terminal E with a connecting flight to San Jose Costa Rica, also terminal E, 1 hr 47 mins later. The later flight out is a layover of about 6 hours which I would rather not do. I think we do not have to collect and check in bags? We are United airlines and Lufthansa. Is 1 hr 47 ok?

Yes, you shouldn't have to collect your bags because you are on International to International. Note that both your flights are opreated by United so check in with United in London. You will still have to go through US Immigration and Security.

Thank you. This is such a helpful sight :-)
