Topic Discussion

A relative is going to be flying IND --> IAH --> AKL and returning a few weeks later in the reverse order (AKL --> IAH --> IND). I have a two part question:

1) On the outbound flight where bags are checked in IND, does she simply go to the International Terminal in IAH for departure to AKL (i.e., will her baggage be checked all the way through to AKL)?

2) On the return flight back to the states from IAH, would she need to grab her baggage at the IAH International Terminal, take them through Customs and then transfer to the Domestic Terminal where she'll have to re-check them for her return to IND?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
On the outbound flight she just have to go to her departure gate in Terminal D. On the return she will go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, re-check her bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the Skyway Train to her departure terminal.
Thanks ZAP for the confirmation!!!
Hi I am flying from New Zealand to Houston and arriving at 12.40pm, I am wanting to get on the connecting flight to Cancun that departs at 1.30pm, is that enough time to transit? I'm not sure if I need to collect and recheck in bags as I am booking with two different carriers so I'm thinking an hour will not be long enough?
No, that would be completely impossible. Since you are booking two separate tickets you need at least 3 hours between flights.
Thanks ZAP. Just one more question if I may. If my luggage is checked through can I get straight to my departure gate without having to pass through security or is there no direct route from arrivals?
Please ignore my comment here, should have been on the next dialogue.
I am flying from London Heathrow on Sunday 26th Feb to Costa Rica via IAH. I believe there is a one-stop system at IAH which means I don't have to collect and re-check baggage in transit. Both flights are with United. I arrive at IAH at 15:40 and depart for Costa Rica at 17:35. I have ESTA but can't use the kiosks because it is my first flight to the US for 15 years. According to the one-stop leaflet there is a dedicated line through immigration. Can anyone confirm this to be the case, and do I have sufficient time for the connection? Thank you.
Yes, that is correct, you can use OneStop. You have enough time if the flight from London is on-time.
Apologies, comment appeared on wrong dialogue above.
Thanks ZAP. Just one more question if I may. If my luggage is checked through can I get straight to my departure gate without having to pass through security or is there no direct route from arrivals?
You have to go through Security if connecting to another flight after an international arrival, even if using onestop.
Will be arriving from Columbus, Oh then departing for Panama City Panama with about 52 minutes between flights - is that sufficient to get between terminals?
That is enough time if the flight from Columbus is on-time. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.
I am looking at a flight from Tampa to Puerto Vallarta Mexico with a 51 minute layover in Houston. The flight gets into Houston at 11:40 am on a Thursday. Is 51 minutes enough to make it to the gate for the flight to Mexico?
Yes, that is enough time if the flight from Tampa is on-time.
Hi we're flying from SFO to IAH then to Costa Rica we have 35 minutes to change planes once we are at IAH both flights are United. Is the time enough?
It's possible but it leaves absolutely no time to spare if the first flight is delayed.
Hi, we are flying from Orlando to London Heathrow, with a connection at IAD and 37 mins stopover. Is this enough time to get from Terminal C to E?
Both flights are United
Do you mean IAH? If so that's barely enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, but it still leaves no time to spare.
Yes, apologies for the typo, I meant IAH.

I thought it was tight, I'll speak to my travel agent.
What's the minimum you recommend?
Thank you
45 minutes is doable but I personally wouldn't book anything under an hour.
Arriving on United 1077 from New Orleans at terminal C at 9;20 am and leaving on United 6297 to Monterrey Mexico from Terminal B at 11:50am. We have NZ passports. Is this a comfortable connection time or should we book a later flight?
Yes, that is plenty of time. All you have to do is take the Skyway train to Terminal B and board your flight.
First time flying with a connection stop. So I'm a Canadian who is travelling to Mexico via Houston. I have 1hr30 mins in Houston. What is the first thing I look for once I get off the plane in Houston in order to catch my next flight?? I'm not bringing luggage just carry on and both flights are with united. Thanks!
You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you have to change terminals the Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.
We are flying from LA to MUC with a connection in IAH. UA 1578 from LAX-IAH, and then UA 102 from IAH to MUC.

Connection time is 1h 40m and "terminal change" is listed, although the terminals aren't listed.

1) Does anyone know what terminals are involved?

2) Will we be able to make that connection?

3) We only have carry-ons. Do we have to go out of security and then back through security again at the different terminal?
You arrive in Terminal C and depart from Terminal E. You can just walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You do not have to go through security. You have enough time.
Thank you very much.
