we are canadians flying from detroit michigan to houston to rio brasil we have 1hr and 56 min to connect in Houston, We do not have to get our bags correct? Or customs as we go through that in detroit correct?
There is no US Customs when leaving the US. You will go through entry procedures when you cross into Detroit at the bridge or tunnel. You will go through Brazilian immigration and customs when you get to Rio. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive in Terminal B you can take the Skyway train to Terminal E where you depart inside security. You have plenty of time.
I was flying United #1035 from Cancún and asked to have my luggage checked all the way to Quito, which they confirmed at the counter. However once we landed in IAH they said all passengers with connecting flights had to go thru immigration, pick up luggage and re-check it again. Waited almost an hour at carrousel for luggage to come out but didn't. Finally someone from United appeared and told me I should have gone thru to check in without waiting for my luggage since it should have been placed in my connecting flight automatically. All that of course took longer than the 1:25 I had between flights and they made me miss my flight. What recourse do I have against United? even if they get me on another flight, they made me miss MY flight and all the delay will bring me further complications. Who will compensate me for it?
You don't have any recourse. The employee who told you that in Cancun isn't even a United employee. They may give you a small voucher but they won't give you cash. If you would have researched this BEFORE your flight you would know that on International to International connections through Houston, your bags are sent directly to your next flight and you just have to go through Immigration, customs, and security.
If I am flying from YEG to IAH (flying United), what terminal will I land in? Also, I have a 1 hour layover, will that be enough time to reach my gate to Orlando? (also United)
You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Edmonton. You will both arrive and depart from Terminal C. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.
Hi! Looking at booking flights to Cozumel through United. The cheapest flights give us 1 hour and 36 minutes to get through customs and on to the next plane. What is a general time frame we should expect to get through customs mid afternoon on a Tuesday or Wednesday in late July?
There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US - or are you talking about the return flight? On your way to Cozumel you just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
Yes, I meant on the return flight :)
OK, on the return flight that gives you just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
My niece is flying in from Tokyo on NH174 arriving at 9:30am. her flight to Tampa is at 1pm, however her ticket has 2 different locators, one for Tokyo trip and another from IAH to TPA, we are trying to get her luggage check in all the way through TPA since the airlines are all part of star alliance. However if they don't allow this, is there a United counter in the same area as the recheck baggage counger, where she can then check in for her TPA flight or does she have to tag her luggage out of the terminal and go to terminal C to check in her last leg flight?
If her bags are not tagged through to TPA she will have to take her bags to the United check-in counter in Terminal C. She has enough time.
Hi - I arrive at IAH at 8:17pm from DCA and my connecting flight is an international Air NZ flight to Auckland leaving at 10:25pm - is this enough time to make the connection and do security etc? Thanks!
You don't have to go through security. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time if your flight from DCA is on-time.
I have a flight from La Guardia International NYC to Houston Intercontinental Airport and I have a layover of 46 minutes for my flight to Mobile, AL to depart. will that be enough time to make it to my departing gate?
Yes, that is enough time. You will arrive in Terminal C and depart from terminal A or B. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.
My mom is coming from Munich to Houston on Lufthansa LH 725, has a 2 hour layover before catching united flight to phoenix at 5.50pm. Will her bags be checked in all the way to the final destination and not pick up at houston and recheck ?
Her bags are tagged through to PHX, but in Houston she will go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, re-check her bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to her departure gate. She has enough time.
I am flying through Houston in July with my kids, and we have a 23hr layover during which time we'll go visit a friend. What can I do with my baggage? I really don't want to have to drag them over to my friend's house
You have to bring them to your friend's house. There is no baggage storage at IAH.
That sucks! But thanks a lot for your help. Now I can plan accordingly
