  • International to Domestic Connection

Hi, I flew through IAH previously and missed my flight because I could not clear customs and recheck my bags in 3-ish hours. I have another trip coming up arriving on Tuesday, Oct 18th at 5:55pm from London with a 3 hr 37 min layover. Will I be able to clear customs and recheck my bags for a domestic flight with this amount of time? I'm hoping my first IAH experience was a fluke. Thank you so much for your advice!

    You should be able to.

Great, thank you very much Zap!

I have made the Mexico City to domestic connection dozens of times in about an hour.

Really? Ok that's very reassuring. Must have been a really off day then. Thank you for your reply!

I'm flying from Mexico City to IAH and land in terminal E at 2:23 pm if it's on time on a Thursday. My connection flight to CLE is at 3:50 pm in terminal C. (1 h 27 min layover). Will I have enough time to clear customs, recheck my bag and get to my connection?

I should have mentioned both flights are United airlines.

That's less than the recommended time. It will be very difficult.

Where are you arriving into Houston from? I can't answer your question without that information.

    arriving from corpus christi

Yes that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. The skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

  • International to Domestic connection

Hi, I'm looking at flights from Europe to Austin and one option is through IAH; arriving with LH440 at 2h05 PM and leaving with UA8636 at 3h35. Is 1h30min aufficient time for the transfer?

Realistically that is not enough time to make an International to Domestic connection in Houston. I would look at booking the next flight to Austin instead.

I am flying from LAX to CHS through IAH in November and United just changed my departure time so now I only have 35 minutes berween flights. I assume I have to change terminals so is that enough time?

It is possible but it leaves absolutely no time to spare. I would call United and ask for an earlier flight from LAX if there is one or alternatively, to be routed through Chicago to Charleston.

  • US CITIZEN Arriving from RIO to LAS through IAH

Hi , arrive from RIO 5:00 am and have a 7:10am departure for LAS, will I have enough time for connection/ customs . Arrive Terminal 2 and depart Terminal C. Thank you.

IAH does not have a Terminal 2. You will arrive in Terminal E. Yes, you have enough time.

Thank you this forum is so helpful!

  • Connection time Boston - Houston - Auckland
    Sep 5, 2016
We have a flight from Boston to Houston on United (UA2045) then depart from Houston to Auckland on Air New Zealand (NZ29) which gives us 1 hr 15 min from landing to take off. Will we have enough time?

Yes, that is enough time if both flights are on the same reservation. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

My young daughter is a UK citizen flying London UK to Managua via Houston, all on United into Terminal E. Her flight arrival time has just been changed by United reducing transit time to depart to Managua to only 1 hour 15 minutes. If she misses her flight to Managua it will cause a lot of problems for her onward connection from there. Is 1 hour 15 mins realistic ?

That is not a legal connection. She needs to contact whoever booked her ticket and get it changed. Depending on the day of week she is traveling she may have to fly to Houston a day earlier and spend a day there.

  • 55 min connection domestic to international
    Sep 5, 2016
I'm about to book a flight, fly with United from DEN to IAH, then with ANA from IAH to NRT Japan, and from NRT to SGN, Vietnam. It is on the 19 December. I have a 55 min connection at IAH. Do you think this is enough for a international connection. I don't know if I will board at the same terminal as the one that I arrive at. Also, since I will fly with a different airline from IAH to NRT, do I need to recheck in to get my tickets and go through security again? Thank you!

Yes. that is enough time. You will arrive in Terminal C and depart from Terminal D, they are connected by a walkway. You don't have to go through security or do anything with your bags in Houston on your way to Vietnam.

I am Australian, travelling United from New Orleans to Houston before travelling Air New Zealand back to Australia. Will 2 hours be enough time to connect from domestic flight and check in, clear customs and board an international flight?

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. If both flights are on the same reservation then all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Hi. United have rescheduled my (previously direct) LAX-MEX flight to have a stopover at Houston. The layover is only 1 hr 32. Is that typically long enough for a domestic to international layover, or should I be pressuring United to rearrange my flights? I guess I would do outward customs at LA.

Yes, that is enough time. There is no "outward custom" when leaving the US. You just go through security in LA. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I am flying from Tulsa to Heathrow London via Houston, is 2.5hours enough time for transfer and does the luggage go straight automatically to London or do I have to collect and rebook in ?

Yes, that is plenty of time. If both flights are on the same reservation then all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

    Thank you
