I'm flying from San Jose to London with United Airlines with a 1hr 53min layover in Houston airport - we've just done the same journey in reverse through Newark & the transfer was horrific - Is it likely to be as tight in Houston?

I assume you mean San Jose, Costa Rica. It is actually better in Houston because firstly, you will arrive and depart in the same terminal, secondly, since you are on an International to International connection on United, you don't have to claim your bags. You can use the "one stop" immigration/customs desk and then go straight to security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

have just checked and it seems were arriving to terminal E and departing from terminal C - am assuming our luggage doesn't need to be rechecked is this correct?

I'm flying from Dulles to Auckland via Houston. Do I clear immigration at Dulles or at Houston? I have only 1hr 35min between arrival in Houston and departure for Auckland.

further info: the Dulles-Houston flight is AirNZ code-shared with United, and the Houston-Auckland flight is AirNZ.

There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. You will go through New Zealand Immigration and Customs in Auckland. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and show your passport to the gate agent when you board your flight to Auckland.

  • ATL (Delta) to AKL (Air New Zealand) via IAH: Check Baggage Transfer?

Arrival at IAH at 2:52pm on Delta, Departure for Auckland on Air New Zealand at 9:25pm. Will my checked bag from ATL transfer to Air New Zealand?

No, if they are on two separate reservations, Delta does not transfer bags to airlines that are not their close partners. You will have to claim your bags in Terminal A, take the subway to Terminal D and re-check your bags with Air New Zealand.

    Thanks....very helpful.

  • International Connection from Cancun

Hi, I am flying from UA from Cancun into IAH on June 8th with a 1hr and 10mins layover to SFO. Not sure if this would be enough time for me to go through customs(if i have to?) and connect to my flight? I am worried...

No, this is not enough time for an International to domestic connection through IAH. You need to contact whoever you booked that ticket to and request either an earlier flight from Cancun or a later flight to SFO.

My travel agent is saying she can't do it(i personally just think she doesn't want to do it).. is there any slight possibility that it would be able to make it? might cost me a lot of I change it..

If the flight from Cancun is early then maybe you sort of would have a chance. Never, ever use that travel agent again.

I actually just got off the phone with United Airlines and they mentioned that I will only need to connect to my other flight in Houston that I would not need to go through customs... This will be done in SFO. My baggage is already checked at Cancun airport therefore, Houston will be only to transfer bags and connect to my 2nd flight. Is this true??? Or is this UA representative cluesless...

Whoever you talked to has absolutely no clue what they are talking about. You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk and go through security. It's ludicrous that their phone agents are so poorly trained.

  • Tight terminal transfer in Houston going to Tokyo

I need to get 7 people from Terminal A (United / Canada Air flight 5758) arriving 9:35 to Terminal D (United / Nippon Airways 7937) departing at 10:15 am. 40 minutes. What can we do to save time? How frequently does the terminal rail run?

The skyway runs pretty regularly. Note that United 5758 probably will not arrive in Terminal A. It will likely arrive in Terminal B. You can make it if the first flight is on-time. If you barely miss it they will try to book you on the United flight to Tokyo that leaves at 10:50, but there's not much more time to make that flight.

I am traveling from London to Miami with a connection of 90 minutes in IAH. I am traveling with United Airlines. Is it enough for me to catch the next flight?

That's barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • San Jose, Costa Rica via Southwest Airlines

We are coming in from San Jose, Costa Rica via Southwest Airlines early in the afternoon on a Tuesday. Is 55 minutes enough time to make a connecting SW flight to Dallas if we do not have checked luggage?

Note that you asked this in the forum for Houston-Intercontinental airport (IAH). Southwest does not fly to this airport. They fly to Houston-Hobby (HOU). 55 minutes should barely be enough time for your connection if everything goes perfectly. However, if you miss your connection, Southwest has hourly flights from HOU to DAL.

I am flying from london to San Salvador (changing at Houston). I have 2hours and 12mins to get between flights - Is this enough time?

Yes, if both flights are on United that should be enough time.

  • Air NZ International to DELTA Domestic transfer
    Mar 7, 2016

Hi, I am coming in on NZ23 from Auckland, NZ to Houston, I then have flights to Jacksonville NC with DELTA (Booked separately). How do I transfer with my luggage? Can I remain in the secure area once I have cleared customs? Thanks

You will arrive in terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim your bags and go through US customs. Then you have to take the Subway train to Terminal A to recheck your bags with Delta and then go through security.

  • Toronto to acapulco stopover in IAH

Is 65 min enough time to make a connection arriving from Toronto, going on to Acapulco? Do I have to go through clearance or is it done in Toronto?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Houston on your way to Acapulco is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

  • Managua to UK

Hi I am flying from Managua to the Uk via Houston airport. I have 1hr in Houston, will this be enough time to get my connecting flight? Will I need to collect and re-check my bag, and go through security at Houston? Are there any provisions in place at the airport to ensure this connection is doable?

No, this connection is not legal or possible. You need to contact whoever you booked this ticket with and get it changed to one with at least 90 minutes between flights, preferably 2 hours. You will need to go through US Immigration, customs, and security in Houston.

I am flying from Houston to Germany. My flight has a layover in Atlanta. Do I fly out of the Domestic or International terminal. I am flying Delta

Delta only has a check in desk and gates in Terminal A, so you go to Terminal A.

I have never flown into IAH, so I'm a little nervous. I fly into IAH into Terminal A and my flight to San Jose departs 30 minutes later from Terminal D. Will I have enough time to get there?

It's possible, but very difficult even if all tickets are on the same reservation. The Skylink train does connect all terminals inside security. What airlines are you flying?

    Spirit

All Spirit departures are from Terminal A. Only their International arrivals are in Terminal D. That makes things a lot easier. Still, prepare to spend the night in Houston if necessary.

Hi, I'm traveling to Las Vegas from Amsterdam Schiphol via Houston IAH with a 1 hr 45 min connect time in Houston. Both flights are United Airlines. Do you think I have enough time?

Yes, that should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • LAX to VER

I'm arriving from LAX to terminal C at IAH. Then I need to transfer to terminal B for the flight to Veracruz Mexico. Got 90 mins layover. I noticed on a map that terminal C is split into two with a TSA checkpoint in the middle. My flight from LAX is with United, the one to Veracruz with Expressjet/United Express. My concern is making the connection. Ideas, tips? Thank you!

You do not have to go through security. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security. You just have to take the train from C to B.
