Ok I will be leaving edmonton, ab to come home and I am having a layover in Houston. I have to go through U.S. customs in edmonton. Will I have to go through us customs in Houston, if not will my bags head to my finally location or do I have to go through security again?

No, you will not have to go through customs or security or do anything with your bags in Houston. That is the purpose of going through preclearance in Edmonton.

  • Connection flight international/domestic

Hi, I'm flying from Lagos to Miami via Houston in March, arriving in Houston with UA 143 at Terminal E and departing 2:25h later from Terminal C. Will I have to collect my luggage and go through customs or can I just go to Terminal C by train and collect everthing in Miami which is my final destination? If this is not the case, is 2:25h enough time for the transfer?

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk immediately after, then go to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate (C and E are connected directly). You should have enough time.

  • Baggage transfer service

Although not yet set in stone, we may be flying PHX-IAH-DME in early June on two carriers, US Airways (PHX-IAH) and Singapore (IAH-DME). As the two no longer are "partner" airlines, we will have to carry our bags (9, although we are hoping to slim down) from Terminal A to Terminal D. Is there any service at IAH that will assist us in moving our bags from the two terminals (golf cart, etc.)?

There is no such service. Pack a portable luggage cart to bring the bags on the inter-terminal train. Also, note that even though they are no longer partners, US Airways and Singapore still have an interline baggage agreement. If you purchase both the tickets on the same reservation your bags will be tagged through to Moscow and you won't have to claim and transport them in Houston.

We are arriving from London, arriving 4pm to IAH, and have a flight from IAH to SNA at 5.35pm. I have pretty much convinced myself there is not going to be enough time :( would I be right?

No, you're not right, that should be enough time.,

I am to travel from london heathrow to pensacola via huston one flight i am looking at has 1 hr 35 min to change flights is this enough? and what gates will the fights normally go from so i know where i am going

That would be barely enough time, but it is sufficient if your first flight is on-time. You will arrive in Terminal E and depart from Terminal B.

Thanks will 2.5 hours be enough or would you advise longer outbound from london??

    2.5 hours should be enough.

  • Connecting flight - immigration & sec check
    Jan 10, 2015
We will be arriving in IAH from Europe - connecting flights to San Antonio. We will have 140 minutes to get to the next flight. 1. Will this time be enough? 2. We need one wheelchair (already contacted the airline) - will we be picked up at the plane and will they help us through the immigration? 3. Will we have to pick up our luggage and check it in again? Thanks!! 3.

Yes, that should be enough time. Yes, wheelchair assistance will meet you at the plane and make sure you are taken care of until you are on board your second plane. Yes. You will have to pick up your bags after Immigration, then go through customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk before going through security and to your departure gate.

  • SAL-IAH-EWR-BHX Flight - Do I have to claim baggage at IAH?
    Dec 31, 2015
Good morning everybody and happy 2015! ^___^ I have the following flight plan on January the 8th, 2015: San Salvador (El Salvador) SAL - Houston IAH {UA 1467} (2 hours 5 minutes connection time) Houston IAH - Newark EWR {UA 0369} (1 hour 50 minutes connection time) Newark EWR - Birmingham (United Kingdom) BHX {UA 0027} I bought the three flights as a single ticket with United. Although I wish I could check in my bag in SAL to final destination and claim it at BHX, I doubt that this is allowed on a International-to-National and National-to-International USA connection combo like the one I have at IAH-EWR The question is: do I have to claim my bag at IAH, or EWR, or it can be sent straight to final destination? And: how long does it take to claim and re-check my bag at IAH? Does United have any priority queue for short connections? Kindly let me know! Your insight is much appreciated! And, again, have a wonderful 2015! ^___^ - Sam

I am traveling from St. Louis to Dallas and from Dallas to OKC. I have a 46 minute layover in Dallas. Will that be enough time to catch my connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time, but be aware that you posted this in the forum for the Houston airport.

  • Water Pipe
    Dec 27, 2014
I will be flying from Portland Maine to Houston. I currently have a medical marijuana card and my question is whether or not it would be legal to bring my water pipe that i bought in Maine, to Houston.

    It could be confiscated.

  • Returning from LIR to IAH then to EWR
    Dec 22, 2014
Do we have to claim bags after fight from LIR go through customs and recheck bags before connection home to EWR? Flying first class, and want to utilize united club while waiting and not sure about time.

Yes, upon arrival at Terminal E at IAH you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate, which will be in C or E (probably C).

  • Mexico City - Houston - Munich
    Dec 21, 2014
Hi, on Tuesday I'll have a flight from Mexico City to Munich/Germany with a transfer in Houston. I've got a 2 hours layover and want to know if this is enough time? I'm a German citizen, do I need to go through customs? It's a United flight, what happens if I miss it? Thanks!

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration and customs, then go through security and to your departure gate, also in Terminal E. You should not have to claim your baggage as you are on an International to International connection but please confirm that with the United agents in Mexico and Houston. If you miss your connection you will be rerouted to Munich via a different route, likely through Frankfurt., possibly on the same flight the next day.

  • Where do I get my baggage?
    Dec 17, 2014
I arrive from Edmonton Canada in terminal E, where do I pick up my baggage?

Chances are you will actually arrive in Terminal C. You will claim your baggage at the domestic baggage claim in Terminal C, United staff will tell you the exact claim.

  • Meeting someone during layover at IAH
    Nov 21, 2014
My friend will be flying on United Airlines from Gulfport, Mississippi to Houston, Texas on December 21. She will fly on flight UA4588. Her flight arrives in Houston at 7:57 AM, and then she will fly out at 11:25 AM that morning. We plan to meet during this time, which is the reason for her long layover. Arriving in Terminal A that morning, where would be the place to meet her at? I will not be going through security as I will not be flying, so I need somewhere to meet that is outside security. She will need to head back through security and get to Terminal B to catch her departing flight. I have 2 questions: a) Where does she go after arriving in Terminal A to meet me? b) Where do I go after parking to go meet her? Thank you very much for any help!

  • 1 hour 40 minute connection time
    Nov 10, 2014
I'm flying in from London next sat on United. I am transiting en route to Managua, also on United. I understand I have to retrieve my luggage and go through immigration/customs. I have a visa waiver. Am I right in assuming that I arrive and depart from Terminal E ?Do I have sufficient time between flights? What do I do with my bags?

Yes, both flights will be in Terminal E. United does have a policy at IAH where bags on International to International connections do not have to be collected to go through US Customs, but please confirm this with the United agents in London and Houston.

Thanks mate. I'll check with United at Heathrow

  • wheelchairs not available
    Nov 6, 2014
returned a dollar rental car, asked for a wheelchair-told i had to go downstairs, to the bus before i could get a wheelchair i had to be at the main terminal.wheel chairs were not available at car rental, neither side of bus trip to airport and not until i arrived in person at the ticket counter for usair, was i told i could get a wheelchair. at this point it had been over a half hr, traveling from car drop off, to bus, to outside terminal, to ticket counter.. then waited over 20 minutes until a wheel chair arrived.not acceptable. i was barely walking at this point, and in terrible pain.finally a wheelchair arrived and took me to my gate-without stopping at bathrooms or for liquid refreshment.my "wheelchair pusher: spoke little english or just ignored me, finally left me at gate.when the flight landed in phila, i had a requested wheelchair and had to wait over 35 minutes for wheelchair to arrive. finally the cleaning crew was finished, all luggage picked up and a wheelchair arrives to take me to baggage.not acceptable time frame in phila, and i was told in houston there is a lack of wheelchairs-and many people have complained that you can not get a wheel chair until you are at the ticket counter.not acceptable by usair, or iah houston airport. also this is the second time i had this much of a wait time to get off the plane...in phila.our flight was an on time landing-i had a wheelchair on my reservation-again not acceptable service..

This is not US Airways or the Houston airport's website.
