Flying from Austin-IAH-SJO (Costa Rica)May 2, 201320My family is flying from Austin to Costa Rica, but we go through IAH both ways. I see lots of helpful advice about understanding that we must clear customs in Houston on the way back. Does anyone know if we have to clear customs in Houston on our way TO Costa Rica, from Austin? Can we not clear customs in Austin and then not worry about having to re-check out bags in Houston on our way to Costa Rica? Thanks!***posted on Thu, May 2No, the only time you will go through any immigration on the way TO Costa Rica is when you get to Costa Rica. In IAH on the way there you will just have to go from your arriving gate to your departing gate - you won't have to do anything with your bags.ZAPposted on Thu, May 2

Clearing Customs - Time NeededDec 27, 2012101/12/2013, I will arrive in flight UA1401 from Bonaire at 11:43 a.m. My connecting flight, UA 684, departs Huston at 12:56 noon. Time total is 1 hour 13 minutes. Is that enough time to clear customs and catch my flight?Mariaposted on Thu, Dec 27As an international arrival at IAH you need to go through passport check, pick up your bag, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bag where indicated. United uses Terminals A, B, C & E. After customs clearance in the International Arrivals building (follow signs), go straight out to the International Arrivals Lobby, take escalator down to the Inter-Terminal Train to Terminals A, B & C, which runs in a continuous loop. On arrival of your connecting terminal, you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. Gate numbers correspond with Terminals, i.e., Gate E12 -Terminal E. You should have sufficient time for transfer.thdec12posted on Thu, Dec 27

PICK UP INTN ARRIVAL AFTER CUSTOMS CLEARDec 24, 201210IS IT POSSIBLE TO PICK UP GERMANY ARRIVAL AT TERMINAL E -- AFTER PERSON GOES THRU CUSTOMS THERE AT TERMINAL E?Pedroposted on Sun, Dec 23If you pick up by car, you have the option of parking in the cell phone lot ('Passenger Pickup Lot')--stay with your vehicle until your party has gathered luggage and calls you to be picked up at the curb. To access the lot, whether you are approaching the airport using John F. Kennedy Boulevard or Will Clayton Parkway, just follow the purple signs to the entrance. (Or use the garage for short-term parking). For paging call 281-230-3000. If arriving taxi, you will, on entering the terminal, see the ticket counters in front of you. Take the escalator to Level 1 - International Arrivals - with a lobby /passenger greeting area.tudec12posted on Mon, Dec 24

16 hour layover GDL to DFWNov 10, 2012102 adults 1 infant have a 16 hour layover in IAH from GDL. What happens to our checked bags??smontes82posted on Fri, Nov 9You need to contact your airline; however, note that if you use different airline you also need to find out if first airline will transfer bags to second one, as not all Airlines do - if not, you would have to go to the Terminal of your connecting airline and re-check in your bags there. On arrival at IAH, presuming you use United, you would either arrive at Terminals C or E - at gates C3-45 is a connector to Terminal E, where you need to go through passport control, pick up bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bags. A 16-hr layover with a baby in tow is quite an undertaking; it may be easier for you to take your bags along, after passing customs clearance (presuming you stay over at a hotel) that way you have the assurance that your re-checked bags the next day will arrive safely at DFW.sanov12posted on Sat, Nov 10

C-18 to E-20Oct 24, 201210Have elderly passenger who cant walk that far, what are the best options?Samposted on Wed, Oct 24At IAH, the above-ground TerminaLink train, which starts its service at the Terminal A station, connects terminals A, B, C, D/E inside security. On arrival at gateway C14-23, (gate C18) the TerminaLink train station is clearly marked by signs; board the train to get Terminal E, gate area E12-24. NOTE: When making airline reservations, be sure to mention your passenger's special needs, including wheelchair assistance. This way your passenger will, on arrival at C gate, be met by an airline employee with a wheelchair. Does Terminal E closeJul 13, 201220We have a 10 hour layover in IAH, from one afternoon to the next AM. Can we stay within the secured area & wait for our connecting flight?jettzposted on Thu, Jul 12At IAH, Terminal E is open 24/7 - there is an abundance of restaurants & shops, some of which may be open until late. Google "Sleeping at the Airports" and see your options. You certainly can stay in the secured area, or for that matter in the non-secured area, where you would have to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. Are you sure your connecting flight is also in Terminal E, if not open www.ifly.com/iah and click on "Terminal Map", under QUICK LINKS, then scroll down to the detailed text.frjul12posted on Fri, Jul 13
