  • Transfer International fights in IAH

I have to transfer from the flihgt arriving from Bogota to IAH (UA1006) to the flight to Amsterdam (LH7986). I have 11 h tranfer time and want to go to Houston downtown in that time. Do I need to check out all the luggage? If the answer is yes are there some lockers where the luggage can be stored? How long does it take to get through all the immigration/security and luggage reclaim procedures?

You shouldn't have to do anything with your bags in Houston since you are on an International to International connection. Immigration will take about 30 minutes.

Thank you! United airlines employee says I will have to collect my luggage from UA flight a check in at the other airline, so it is confusing. I hope you are right and not United Airlines:)

Both of your flights are operated by United.

  • 46 min layover

I'm travelling from Toronto to Ixtapa Mexico. I have a 46 min layover in Houston. When i go to book the flight it says "Risky" connection. I will not be checking my bags. The flight is through united and also says Includes Travel Operated By Mesa Airlines Dba United Express , Expressjet Airlines Dba United Express. Will i need to switch terminals? Would you book this flight?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. You will arrive in Terminal B or C and depart from Terminal E. All gates are connected inside security by the Skyway train. It is possible to make this connection but leaves no time to spare if the flight from Toronto is delayed.

can I make it from United A1 terminal to E2 in 45 mins?

Yes, that is possible if the first flight is on-time. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

Hi. I have a risky 1 hour 12 min connection time at IAH. Im coming from Englang and departing to Costa Rica. If the connection is not possible and they put me on the next fligh, what will happen to my luggage? will united understand I didn't make the connection and not put my case on that flight and put my case on the next flight? Thanks

That connection is pretty much impossible. They will try to keep you and your bag on the same flight but there's no guarantee that they will be able to.

I am arriving into IAH from Toronto in United 3778 at 4 :40 pm and meeting my sister who is arriving from Mexico City in United 1091at 5pm...do we both arrive in Terminal E? I know I pre clear customs in Toronto and she has to go through security, so where would be the best place to meet?

No, you will arrive in Terminal B likely. You could take the skyway or subway train to Terminal E and meet her at the exit of Customs there.

Thank you Zap! So I get my bags, get the inter terminal train to Terminal E and can you suggest a good waiting place? Thank you again!!!

Yes, as I mentioned the exit of customs would be a good spot. It will be on the lower level I believe.

I have a flight from EWR that lands in IAH at 8:27 and leaves at 8:59 to fly to Managua. Will that be enough time to make the connecting flight, what terminals do i have to transfer between, and do i have to go through customs?

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. You will arrive in Terminal C or E and depart from Terminal E. You have barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

  • YYZ -> IAH -> SJO [Limited Layover Time]

I will be travelling on New Years Eve from YYZ and will be landing in IAH at 4:35 PM in Terminal A followed by a 1 H 10 MIN layover to a connecting flight in Terminal E departing for Costa Rica at 5:45 PM. I will not have any checked-in luggage for my flight - is it likely to make the connecting flight? What are somethings I can do to speed up this process? Thanks for your help :)

There is no process in IAH. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in IAH is go from your arrival gate in Terminal A to your departure gate in Terminal E. The Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

Arriving from New Orleans going onto Las Vegas with an hour connection. Will bags have to be collected and will that be enough time. Both flights with United

You don't have to collect your bags in Houston. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If they are in different terminals the Skyway train connects all terminals inside security.

  • Connecting flight San Jose Costa rica to London only 1 hour and 14 min

Hi! United booked us on a flight with only 1 hour and 14 minutes connecting time in Houston. Will we be able to make it? We both have checked bags and have swedish passports. We tried to change it but basically it has been a nightmare talking with United airlines.

It's possible. If you are on an International to International connection through Houston you do not have to claim and re-check your bags. However, you still have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security. There's no time to spare though.

Flying from Mke on American connecting in IAH on LAN to Santiago, Chile. Time between flights is listed as 50 minutes (landing to departure). How am I best to make this tight connection?

American does not fly from Milwaukee to Houston are you on United or are you connecting through Dallas? LAN also doesn't fly to Houston or Dallas. Please double check your reservation.

  • Domestic arrival at Terminal E, no checked bag

Can I exit at Terminal E if I have no checked bag, rather than walking to Terminal C if I arrive on a domestic flight? If so, how?

There should be an exit next to the security checkpoint that is on the departures level of Terminal E. If there isn't you can ask the agent there where the nearest exit is, there has to be one somewhere in Terminal E.

Coming back from Merida, Mexico to Atlanta by way of IAH, is 72 minutes sufficient transfer time to clear customs and change from Terminal E to C?

No, the minimum International to Domestic connection time is 90 minutes and I recommend 2 hours. If this is already booked you need to contact your airline or travel agent to be rebooked.

  • No Priority line at TSA for International returns
    Nov 30, 2015

FYI: Just returned from Belize through Houston. There were no Priority lines at TSA check point (same as I experienced last year). Do not count on whisking through this point, no mater your ticket level. The line did move pretty briskly, however. About 20 minutes at Customs and 20 minutes thhrough the TSA check. We will be getting our Global entry and TSA pre checks to help reduce some time for next years trips. :-) Does anyone know if precheck will help with the TSA line or does this merely mitigate that you have to take off (shoes/belt) at the line?

Yes, Pre-check gets a separate line at security at most airports.

Thanks, Do you know if that is still true at IAH on international returns? I did not see any separate line, other than flight crew, at that TSA checkpoint.
