I'm an international traveler and I'm flying from Munich via Houston to New Orleans arriving in Houston with UA 105 at 2:05 pm (Terminal E) and departing with UA 291 at 3:23 pm (Terminal C). Will 1:15h be enough for the transfer with involves the whole US Immigration/Customs procedure? And can you just please confirm that I'll have to claim and then re-check my luggage at the departure level before actually going to my departure gate? Thanks a lot!

That is 15 minutes less than the minimum recommended connection time for this connection. Yes, you have the procedure correct. It's possible to make the connection if you arrive a bit early and everything goes perfectly, but even if you miss United has virtually hourly flights from Houston to New Orleans that you can be rebooked on.

  • Customs Clearance YYC to IAH to RDU

US Citizen: Will I go through Customs in YYC prior to departure? Will have carry on and check a large bag. Have 1 hour connection time IAH to RDU. Do I go through Customs on arrival IAH? Is 1 hour sufficient time?

Yes, you will go through US Immigration and Customs preclearance in Calgary. All you have to do in Houston is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

Ok I will be leaving edmonton, ab to come home and I am having a layover in Houston. I have to go through U.S. customs in edmonton. Will I have to go through us customs in Houston, if not will my bags head to my finally location or do I have to go through security again?

No, you will not have to go through customs or security or do anything with your bags in Houston. That is the purpose of going through preclearance in Edmonton.

Hi, I'm flying from Lagos to Miami via Houston in March, arriving in Houston with UA 143 at Terminal E and departing 2:25h later from Terminal C. Will I have to collect my luggage and go through customs or can I just go to Terminal C by train and collect everthing in Miami which is my final destination? If this is not the case, is 2:25h enough time for the transfer?

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk immediately after, then go to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate (C and E are connected directly). You should have enough time.

  • Baggage transfer service

Although not yet set in stone, we may be flying PHX-IAH-DME in early June on two carriers, US Airways (PHX-IAH) and Singapore (IAH-DME). As the two no longer are "partner" airlines, we will have to carry our bags (9, although we are hoping to slim down) from Terminal A to Terminal D. Is there any service at IAH that will assist us in moving our bags from the two terminals (golf cart, etc.)?

There is no such service. Pack a portable luggage cart to bring the bags on the inter-terminal train. Also, note that even though they are no longer partners, US Airways and Singapore still have an interline baggage agreement. If you purchase both the tickets on the same reservation your bags will be tagged through to Moscow and you won't have to claim and transport them in Houston.

I am to travel from london heathrow to pensacola via huston one flight i am looking at has 1 hr 35 min to change flights is this enough? and what gates will the fights normally go from so i know where i am going

That would be barely enough time, but it is sufficient if your first flight is on-time. You will arrive in Terminal E and depart from Terminal B.

Thanks will 2.5 hours be enough or would you advise longer outbound from london??

    2.5 hours should be enough.

We will be arriving in IAH from Europe - connecting flights to San Antonio. We will have 140 minutes to get to the next flight. 1. Will this time be enough? 2. We need one wheelchair (already contacted the airline) - will we be picked up at the plane and will they help us through the immigration? 3. Will we have to pick up our luggage and check it in again? Thanks!! 3.

Yes, that should be enough time. Yes, wheelchair assistance will meet you at the plane and make sure you are taken care of until you are on board your second plane. Yes. You will have to pick up your bags after Immigration, then go through customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk before going through security and to your departure gate.

  • SAL-IAH-EWR-BHX Flight - Do I have to claim baggage at IAH?
    Dec 31, 2015

Good morning everybody and happy 2015! ^___^ I have the following flight plan on January the 8th, 2015: San Salvador (El Salvador) SAL - Houston IAH {UA 1467} (2 hours 5 minutes connection time) Houston IAH - Newark EWR {UA 0369} (1 hour 50 minutes connection time) Newark EWR - Birmingham (United Kingdom) BHX {UA 0027} I bought the three flights as a single ticket with United. Although I wish I could check in my bag in SAL to final destination and claim it at BHX, I doubt that this is allowed on a International-to-National and National-to-International USA connection combo like the one I have at IAH-EWR The question is: do I have to claim my bag at IAH, or EWR, or it can be sent straight to final destination? And: how long does it take to claim and re-check my bag at IAH? Does United have any priority queue for short connections? Kindly let me know! Your insight is much appreciated! And, again, have a wonderful 2015! ^___^ - Sam

I am traveling from St. Louis to Dallas and from Dallas to OKC. I have a 46 minute layover in Dallas. Will that be enough time to catch my connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time, but be aware that you posted this in the forum for the Houston airport.

I will be flying from Portland Maine to Houston. I currently have a medical marijuana card and my question is whether or not it would be legal to bring my water pipe that i bought in Maine, to Houston.

    It could be confiscated.

Do we have to claim bags after fight from LIR go through customs and recheck bags before connection home to EWR? Flying first class, and want to utilize united club while waiting and not sure about time.

Yes, upon arrival at Terminal E at IAH you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate, which will be in C or E (probably C).

  • Mexico City - Houston - Munich

Hi, on Tuesday I'll have a flight from Mexico City to Munich/Germany with a transfer in Houston. I've got a 2 hours layover and want to know if this is enough time? I'm a German citizen, do I need to go through customs? It's a United flight, what happens if I miss it? Thanks!

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration and customs, then go through security and to your departure gate, also in Terminal E. You should not have to claim your baggage as you are on an International to International connection but please confirm that with the United agents in Mexico and Houston. If you miss your connection you will be rerouted to Munich via a different route, likely through Frankfurt., possibly on the same flight the next day.

  • Where do I get my baggage?

I arrive from Edmonton Canada in terminal E, where do I pick up my baggage?

Chances are you will actually arrive in Terminal C. You will claim your baggage at the domestic baggage claim in Terminal C, United staff will tell you the exact claim.
