Hi! We are travelling from MSY to SAN with a 45 min layover in IAH on the 12th of January 2017. The flight numbers are UA520 and UA1870. Can you tell me if we have to switch terminals and if so how long will it take?

Both flights should be in Terminal C. You should have enough time if the first flight is on-time.

  • Customs Security Connecting to New Jersey
    Nov 10, 2016
Hello Everyone! I'm actually not a US citizen. I'm flying on a Visa Waiver P from Lima, Peru - connecting in Houston, Texas - then to New Jersey, USA as my final destination. Will I have to do see customs and security in Houston, Texas or will I have to see them in my final destination Newark, New Jersey??? Please, help. I'm flying United Arilines.

In Houston you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

What airlines are you flying? Your flight to Canada will likely NOT depart from terminal E.

I will be arriving with United from Costa Rica in Terminal E and havng a connection flight with Lufhansa from Terminal D in Houston. Do I have to immigrate into the US and what's about the luggage. Do I have to clear the Luggage in Terminal E after arrival from Costa Rica and re check in or will the luggae directly tranferred to my final destination to Frankfurt ?

Yes, you have to go through US Immigration, Customs and security. However, since you are on an International to International connection, you should not have to claim your bags.

  • baggage porter services at arrivals

Does IAH have porters at international arrivals to assist with luggage from baggage reclaim until I'd meet my friend at arrivals? I'll have a lot of luggage! Thanks.

No, they do not, there will be carts available.

  • making a tight connection
    Oct 23, 2016
Nov. 7 I arrive from New Orleans at 7:51 AM on United Airlines UA1117 and I leave at 8;45 on UA1776 to Calgary. Will my checked bag be transferred directly to the ongoing flight and, in general, should I be able to make the connection? Any suggestions to increase my odds of making it?

Yes, your bags will be transferred for you. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

Thanks for the reassurance. The tight connections makes me nervous.

  • Customs line
    Oct 12, 2016
Hi! Does anyone know approx how long customs line are the night of thanksgiving? Before black friday? With and without global entry?

It really depends on the time of the day. There aren't really any more international flights on those days, so it really shouldn't take any more time than normal.

  • Iah from Dublin.
    Oct 10, 2016
Hi there. I'm flying from Dublin to Houston on January 1st, landing at 3.15pm flying via London. I have the chance to swap and fly through Newark landing in Houston at 4.05pm having being pre cleared in Dublin. Which do you think would get me through quicker? Thanks.

It would be about the same. I personally would avoid the connection in Newark.

That's great, thanks for the quick reply.

  • Enough to time to make connections?
    Sep 10, 2016
We will be arriving in IAH at 5:20pm in Cancun MX. We need to clear customs and make it to our connecting flight to SNA by 7:00pm. Will that work? Was not aware that we would have to do this when booking the flight.

That's barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Connection IAH
    Sep 1, 2016
HI, I am USA citizen traveling from Panama (Central America) to St. Luis with a 1hour and 25 min Layover. Is it enough to make the connection? Thanks

No, that is not enough time. It might be possible without checked bags, but it is below the minimum required international connection time.

I am arriving Air NZ terminal D & leaving terminal A to Toronto on Air Canada. Is there a recheck of bags at Terminal D for Air Canada flights (is all on one ticket & is code share)? I have 3 hrs between flights - presume this is enough? Thanks

Yes, you can re-check your bags in Terminal D at the re-check desk. You should have enough time.

    Many thanks

Hello -we are flying from Cabo San Lucas to Houston and then connecting to Newark. Our flight will arrive in Houston on a Sat eve at approx. 4:55pm and our flight to Newark leaves at 7:30pm. After we go through customs do we have to reclaim our bags? How does the check in with bags works for the connection? I am hoping 2 hours will be sufficient? Thank you!!

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

  • Mexico - IAH - Tokyo (ANA)
    Aug 9, 2016
Hi, I have a flight from Mexico to Tokyo with a 1hr 30min layover in IAH. The flights are with ANA. I have a checked bag. Can I make the connection when both flights are in terminal E? Will my bag go all the way to Tokyo? Thanks

Your bags will be tagged to Tokyo but you may have to claim them in Houston. You will go through US Immigration, US Customs, and Security. You have barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

  • Terminal D to Terminal E

My child and I are both traveling internationally but from two different terminals. My child is Terminal D and I'm Terminal E. Question - Can I go through TSA screening in terminal D and get to terminal E without going through TSA screening again?

Yes, you can, they're really just two sides of the same building.
