  • Meeting someone at IAH
    Aug 11, 2014
Hello, I'll be arriving to Gate E at IAH since it's an international flight from Mexico to Houston with United Airlines 5221 next Sunday at 10:15, the layover lasts 3 hours and the next flight is to St. Louis- Lambert International Airport. I was wondering if I could meet a friend in the meantime. And if it is possible, how and where could I meet him?

When you exit customs in Terminal E, after you re-check your baggage (if you have any) you will be outside the secure area. So, yes, they could meet you there.

Thank you so much for replying! :)

  • Picking up arrival

My wife is flying in on US Airways flight 673 from CLT I know its terminal A but with no baggage to claim where is the best place to pick her up at?

Still the arrivals level of Terminal A.

    What level is that?

I believe arrivals are on the lower level.

My dog is traveling on Turkish airlines from Dubai as cargo. Does anyone know where to pick her up? Thanks!!

You need to call the Turkish Airlines affiliated agent you arranged for the dog's transport with. Chances are it will be some cargo office adjacent to the Houston airport.

Will 1 1/2 hr be enough time for me to go out for a smoke and get back through security for my connection

  • Can we leave our luggage
    Jun 6, 2014
We arrive in Houston about noon and don't leave until noon the next day. Can we check our bags all the way they or will we have to take them to our hotel

You will clear Immigration, collect your bags, and clear customs in T1. Then, if your bags are tagged through to Atlanta, you can then drop them at the re-check desk and go to T2 via the AirTrain, get your boarding pass, and go through security. If your bags are only checked through to JFK, then you will need to take your bags with you on the AirTrain to T2 to check them with Delta and get your Delta boarding pass. You do not have to go to T4 for anything.

  • Enough time?
    May 31, 2014
Arriving terminal A at 1:50. Leaving to Lima, Peru from terminal D at 3:50. Will I have enough time to get from one terminal to the other?

Yes, that is definitely enough time. If you are flying United to Lima, you will depart from E, not D.

  • Layover Times

We are flying from Philly to Guadalajara through Houston. On the way down, we have a 1:05 hour layover to get from Terminal C to Terminal E. Then on the return trip, we have to get from E back to C in an 1:45. Customs? Is this doable if flights are on time?

That should be enough time both ways. Yes, on your return trip you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through customs, then re-check your bags and go through security. Also, note that most United Express departures to Guadalajara use Terminal B, not Terminal E and that United Express arrivals from Mexico use Terminal D, not E. Only if you are on a United mainline flight will you use Terminal E.

Thank you for the response! One more question: walk between terminals or take a tram?

On your flight to quadalajara, definitely take the TerminaLink Train as it connects all terminals quickly inside security. On the return I would probably go through security in your arrival terminal and then take the TerminaLink to your departure terminal (if necessary, it likely won't be as C is directly connected to D and E).

  • Customs and Immigration with an infant

I will be flying into IAH from Costa Rica. I am a US citizen, my husband is Costa Rican, and we will be traveling with our 3 month old who has a US passport. Will we be able to use the new kiosks at customs if my husband is not a US resident? And are there any special lines for families with infants?

  • Meeting a friend
    Jun 5, 2014
I am flying into Houston and have a couple of hours before my next flight, a friend that lives in Houston wants to come a meet me for a coffee, will I be able to meet them in the baggage reclaim ?

Yes, you can meet them in the baggage claim of your arrival terminal (note that each of the five terminals has a separate baggage claim).

I have the same situation; once I meet my friend I would assume I have to go through some type of security check in again prior to my next flight?

my son will be traveling from mexico city to istanbul, turkey with a change of flight at IAH he is traveling on a russian passport and will be waiting 2-3 hours before boarding his flight. any problems that we should be concerned about, thank you.

He will need a US Transit visa. Other than that he should have plenty of time.

All international arrivals at the U.S. need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through passport clearance & re-check-in bags where indicated. I suggest you open, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text for terminal transfer etc.

  • Corey Williams

For the many that have been bullied and had problems with the yellow shirt traffic pusher guy Corey Williams, file a complaint. He claims he is above the rules and that his boss (IAH Director of Aviation) does whateever he says. He blocks traffic, the entrance doors, displays a huge chip on his shoulder and is a horrible representative of the city of Houston. Remember, these traffic pushers are paid with tax money. File your complaint here:

If you need a wheelchair you can request one from United by calling them. Both flights will likely be in Terminal B.
