Guangzhou Baiyun CAN Airport Overview

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport CAN - opened in 2004 & replacing the old one -is one of the three largest Airports in the People's Republic of China which spreads out over 15 square-kilometers. It serves the Province of Guangdong and its capital city Guangzhou.  In 2011 it was China's second-largest airport.

The Airport is located off the Airport Expressway, 28 km from Guangzhou City bordering to the north on the town of Renhe in the Baiyun District, and to the east on the town of Xinhua in the Huadu District.

With twp very long runways (a third one is under construction) and 48.3 million passengers in 2012, Guagzhou Baiyun Airport is hub to China Southern and Shenzhen airlines, and is served by numerous domestic and international airlines offering direct and connecting flights to all points of the globe.

The on-Airport Hotel  'Pullman Guagzhou Baiyun Airport Hotel', tel: (020) 3606 8866, is a five-star hotel, located just across from the passenger terminal - a 5-minute walk.

Guangzhou Bayun Airport has one large passenger terminal, divided into Domestic and International Departures Halls, and Domestic and International Boarding Areas. (For more information, please refer to 'Terminal Map' page.)

Parking options at Baiyun Airport: At present the Airport has one parking lot and one parking station. Another lot and a multi-level parking garage is to be added.
 
To get from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi, the subway, or a bus. Note that you can buy one of eight types of rechargeable tickets, accepted on ferries, buses, subways & telecoms, one of which is ideal for tourists (the CNY30 Card without deposit). The card costs CNY10 and then you can add value to it. The highest value you add is CNY30 or CNY50 and each recharge should be a multiple of CNY10 (leftover not refundable).
 
1. By Subway, Intercity Underground or Automated People Mover: The subway stops are announced in Mandarin, Cantonese and English. Subways run at peak hours every 3minutes and at off-peak hours after 9pm, every 7 minutes. Subway fares are set as follows: Up to the first 4 km, the fare is CNY2; for 4-12 km add CNY1 for each additional 4 km segment; for 12-24 km add CNY1 for each additional 6 km segment. After 24 km add CNY1 for each additional 8 km segment.
 
Line 1 has 16 stations and serves as transfer to the Guangzhou East railway station.
Line 2 has 24 stations, running north to south and taking you to both the Guangzhou and the Guanzhou South railway stations.
Line 3 has a north to south main rail and a north to east branch. From downtown there is now a direct connection to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.
Line 4, with 18-20 stations, starts north at Chebeinan and ends south a Jinzhou in the south.
Line 5 connects eastern and western Guangzhou and stops at the Guangzhou railway station.
Line 8 runs from the south bank of the Pearl River, west to east.
GuangFo Line, an intercity underground train, connects Guangzhou City to Foshan City.
The APM (Automated People Mover), only 8 km long, is an underground & unmanned train..

2. Via Airport Express Bus (tel: (020) 8612 2102), which links the Airport both with central Guangzhou and other destinations in the Pearl River Delta region, and departs right outside the terminal’s arrivals area.

Current and future Airport developments: Completion of a third runway is scheduled for 2013/14.
A new 595,000 square meter Terminal 2 is now under construction and will  include its multi-level parking garage and parking lot, transportation center, and a Metro station. Upon completion by 2016, the Airport is expected to accommodate up to 75 million passengers a year.
