Guatemala La Aurora GUA Airport Overview

Guatemala La Aurora International Airport GUA is Central America's third-busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic. In recent years it received extensive expansion and renovation and is now able to handle more flights and larger airplanes.

The Airport is located in Finca San Isidro, 6 km from Guatemala City, the capital of Guatemala.

If  you have a at least two hours to spare, check your baggage and walk (15-20 mins) over to the Nacional Zoo, which is highly recommended and can be seen within an hour's time.  On your way to or from the Zoo you may want to drop in on the large handicraft market across from it.  Also, Guatamala City as a great Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology, and the Mercado Central is well worth investigating.  Day tours are available to Tikal National Park, which may also fit into your itinerary. 

With a long runway and an estimated 2 million passengers in 2012, Guatemala La Aurora Airport is served by a number of International Airlines, as well as by charter flights, offering direct and connecting flights to all points of the globe.
A Departure tax of US$3 is payable prior to boarding.

Business travelers heading to the financial district may want to consider the Holiday Inn, a ten-minute drive from the Airport. (tel. 50-2-2421-0000 /fax 0025) offering 7 meeting rooms in various sizes.

The new main passenger terminal now has two concourses--the northern concourse and the central concourse (used for larger aircraft). Amenities and services include a staffed information kiosk, rental car agencies, foreign exchange & bank service, restaurants & shops (local crafts and duty-free), a post office, a pharmacy, hotel desks, and travel agencies and a Presidents Club for Copa & Continental.
There is also a smaller regional passenger terminal.

To get from Guatemala Airport to your destination you can rent a car, take a taxi or a bus:  Aside from hotel shuttles , you can catch Bus 32 to the city center, which leaves frequently and takes about an hour.
