  • YHZ Airport Overview
Halifax International YHZ Airport, located in the southeastern part of Canada, in the Province of Nova Scotia, has more flights to more destinations than any other airport in Atlantic Canada. The airport is served by 19 commercial airlines including Delta, Northwest, Air Canada and WestJet offering nonstop service to destinations throughout Canada and the U.S. The airport is in the midst of a 10-year Airport Improvement Program that includes expanding domestic and international arrivals areas and adding more ticket counters and aircraft gates. As part of the program, the airport has opened Flight Deck, a public observation area on the third floor of the airport, and Airport Square, a major expansion of retail outlets in the main lobby. Halifax airport’s location isn’t as user-friendly as its new facilities. It is located approximately 35 kilometers (22 miles) from downtown Halifax, and takes about 30 to 45 minutes to drive by car.

Halifax Stanfield welcomes almost 3.4 million passengers annually, and is an internationally recognized leader in customer service, with first-place awards in the global Airport Service Quality program for the past four years.

Flyglobespan will operate the weekly seasonal service to Glasgow, Scotland, beginning in late May 2009. The non-stop service departs Glasgow on Wednesdays at 1:55 p.m., arriving in Halifax at 4:25 p.m.; and returns to Glasgow at 5:10 p.m. on Thursdays.

The airport community, made up of airlines, air freight firms, the Airport Authority, retailers, and other companies directly involved in the air transportation industry, is a major economic, fiscal and employment generator.

  • Main Terminal / Concourses at Halifax YHZ Airport
The Airport Terminal Building has two principal levels - the ground level for ticketing, arrivals, and retail shopping, and the second level for departures. Passengers departing on domestic and international flights check their baggage and obtain tickets and boarding passes at counters located in the south end of the ground level. The passenger security screening checkpoint is centrally positioned in the main lobby for easy access. As well, there are many new and improved retail shops and services in Airport Square offering a wide variety of traveler amenities.

All flight departure gates are located on the second level. Passengers arriving on domestic flights may claim their baggage in the public arrivals area in the north end of the Terminal Building. Those arriving from outside Canada must clear customs and immigration through facilities also located on the ground level.
