Security at Halifax YHZ Airport

U.S. Preclearance at Halifax Stanfield International Airport
Non-stop U.S. bound passengers traveling from Halifax Stanfield International Airport now use the new U.S. Preclearance Facility. The new facility, located at the far end of the terminal building (see inset in FAQ below), will allow non-stop U.S. bound passengers to go through U.S. Customs and Border Protection prior to their departure.

· Passengers should make their way to the far end (north end) of the terminal building
· Ascend twin escalators to the second level
· Proceed to ticket counter and check baggage
· Go through pre-board security screening
· Proceed through U.S. Customs and Border Protection
· Once cleared, proceed to departure gates and arrive at their destination as a domestic passenger

Non-stop U.S. bound passengers should make their way to the north end of the terminal building - simply follow the U.S. Preclearance signs displaying the American flag, located throughout the terminal building.

If you often fly to/from Canada by commercial airline, then CANPASS Air may be for you! CANPASS Air is a joint initiative of the CBSA and CIC. Members of the program are pre-approved to verify that they are low-risk. CANPASS Air members pass quickly through customs and immigration at major Canadian airports via a self-service kiosk that uses iris recognition to verify membership in the program.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

Identification
All passengers should carry photo identification, and international travelers and those flying to the United States must have a valid passport.

To obtain the requirements for travel from Canada to specific countries, contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade or contact Canada Border Services Agency for the requirements to travel to Canada.

Luggage and Security Screening
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is responsible for pre-board screening of passengers and their belongings and they determine what can or cannot be taken aboard an aircraft. Call 1.888.294.2202 or check out their web site for more information.

Halifax Stanfield International Airport complies fully with all government-issued security measures. For more information regarding airport security visit Transport Canada's web site.

Among YHZ's many responsibilities, security service runs a 24-hour-a-day Security Operations Centre (SOC), manages the restricted area access clearance program, provides explosive vapour detection services, runs the airside vehicle operation permit program, maintains a key control system, and enforces parking and traffic regulations.
