I am flying in from Amstredam to Atlanta and have a connecting flight to Houston in 1hr 30mins. do i have to go through customs and immigration or do i directly go to the domestic terminal. Is 1hr 30min enough time for checkout and immigration check in again in time for my connecting flight?

You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, and go through security in Atlanta. You have barely enough time.

We are flying into ATL from SJC arriving at 6:38am with 48" to catch connecting flight to IAD. Is 48" enough time to change planes? Sorry - we are flying on Delta.

Yes, that is enough time. The Plane Train connects all concourses inside security.

Hi, Im flying from Heathrow this upcoming december and have 1 hour and 15 minutes of transfer time in Atlanta. Will I be able to clear customs and make to my plane on time? Thank you very much for your time

That is 15 minutes below the minimum and 45 less than what I recommend.

Is 2 hours enough time to clear customs in ATL and get the train to the next terminal to get the flight to IAH?

Yes, that should be enough time. After clearing customs, re-checking your bags, and going through security you can take the train directly to your departure concourse.

Is 45 minutes enough time layover with the connection in Atlanta to Cleveland? The flight says we will need to change planes. Have never been to Atlanta airport.

    by the way flying Delta

That is enough time if your first flight is on-time. All concourses at ATL are connected inside security by the Plane Train.

Hi Im traveling from Miami to Kansas city with a layover at Atlanta of 42 minutes via Delta airlines. I will not have any check in baggage. both flights seem to be operating out of Terminal S. Is this enough time to change flights? Will I need to do security again? Thanks

You will not have to go through security. You may have to change concourses. The Plane Train connects every concourse inside security. You have enough time if the first flight is on-time.

    thanks a lot

Traveling into Atlanta from Bermuda, on Delta. Connection is 50 minutes to Tampa, on Delta, terminal S. Is this enough time??

Yes, that is enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Bermuda. All you have to do in Atlanta is take the Plane Train from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Thank you for the reply!

  • Connecting flight, virgin atlantic from LHR - ATL, Delta ATL - TPA
    Sep 25, 2015
We are arriving in atlanta on a Virgin atlantic flight from London Heathrow and connecting with a Delta flight to Tampa is 2 hours 30 mins long enough and do we need to go to the main terminal and re check our luggage after we have cleared customs and immigration.

That is plenty of time. After you clear customs you can immediately re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the Plane Train directly to your departure concourse.

Thank you for the response it is a great help we have never been to ATL so do not know the layout of the terminals or procedures. Thanks again Ed.

  • London Heathrow to Mexico City via atlanta on Xmas day.
    Sep 22, 2015
The connection time is 1 hr 50, will that be enough time to make the connection? Also, is there much risk of there being delays on xmas like ice/snow or just generally busy, that may make me miss the connection. I know this is a long way in advance.

It almost never snows in Atlanta. That should be enough time. Christmas day itself is usually not a busy day.

    Sep 16, 2015
I plan on flying Delta from Norfolk, VA to Tampa, FL with a 47 minute layover in Atlanta. My cat will have been taken out of the carrier and screened in Norfolk. Does this have to happen again in Atlanta before I board the flight to Tampa? Thank you for your help.

No, there is no security between gates in Atlanta.
