  • Is 4 hrs enough time

This is actually a follow-up question to a previous one . . . returning to ATL on an international flight on Turkish Airlines, is 4 hours enough time for a small group with checked baggage to collect bags, clear customs, and change terminals to connect with a Delta flight to MSY? Many thanks for any help again.

A small group with checked baggage will be traveling on Delta from MSY to connect with an international flight on Turkish Airlines. Is 4 hours enough time to collect bags, change terminals, and process through security and make the connecting flight? Thanks.

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Mco - alt via delta then atl - man via virgin

We depart Orlando and arrive Atlanta at 15.07. Due to fly with virgin to Manchester uk at 17.10 and have been told it's a through ticket. Will this be enough? Am I correct we don't need to collect hold luggage or go through security just go from one gate to next? Anyone know where gates are located? Thanks

Yes, you just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will likely arrive in concourse T, A, or B and depart from concourse E or F. The Plane Train connects all concourses inside security. You have plenty of time.

  • Carry on or check baggage

Arriving Atlanta from Denver at 7:33 pm to connect with flight to London at 8:40 pm (a Saturday). We were planning to carry on luggage. Since time is so short should we check our baggage at Denver? Will we need to go through TSA again with our luggage?

If everything is on the same reservation then you don't have to go through security in Atlanta. Just take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to concourse E or F where your flight to London will depart. You have enough time.

  • 1:30 to clear customs?
    Jun 20, 2016

On my way back from Rio, I will have 1:30 mins to clear customs at 6:40 AM on on July 22 (a Friday). We had it planned so that we would have 2:10 mins to go through customs, but Delta has changed our flight time from Atlanta to Nashville. I will have to change terminals. Last May, on our way back from Paris via Atlanta, we barely made our connection. We had 2:30 hours then. I've heard that there are more agents working now. What do you think?

It'll be difficult. Also, arriving in the morning is much easier as there are far fewer international arrivals at that time. Also, you don't technically change terminals. You can go directly from the International Terminal where you clear customs and immigration to your departure concourse via the Plane Train. If you do miss your connection, since you arrive in the morning, you have lots of opportunities to be rebooked to Nashville.

I'm concerned because, when I arrived from Paris in Atlanta, it took us about 1:40 mins to go through passport control (I'm American), then security, then the train and our gate was, possibly, the farthest one from where we were. Since we have a 3 hour drive home once we get to Nashville (after a 9+ hour international flight and 1 hour connection), it would be a bummer to miss the original departure because TSA issues.

Immigration won't be nearly as busy early in the morning. Delta has 12 daily flights all on mainline planes between Atlanta and Nashville. If you miss your connection you should be able to be rebooked fairly quickly.

I am flying from AMS to MCO via ATL. Do i need to clear US customs and collect my luggage in ALT? I have 1.hr 35mins connecting time. It's that enough time

Yes, in Atlanta you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security and take the plane train to your departure concourse. You have just enough time if everything goes perfectly. Delta has hourly flights from Atlanta to Orlando if you miss your connection.

  • 40 min layover

arriving at 2:17 and departing at 3:00. Will i have enough time??? what are the odds that my gates will be close together since they are both delta flights? Never been to this airport but I have printed the maps and have done trak-a-flight so I hope this helps.

It's possible. Delta uses gates in every concourse so without knowing more about your flights I can't give you more information.

As of right now it shows arriving a D44 and departing B32

Flying from Amsterdam to Ft Lauderdale with Delta, do we need to recheck our lugage? Or only through immigration and then to the next gate?

Yes, you will arrive in E or F, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the Plane Train to your departure concourse.

  • Customs or NO customs when flying international?
    Jun 13, 2016

We booked a flight to London from BNA thru ATL months ago. Left 1hr 13 min layover based upon speaking to Delta and reading this forum stating we only have to get from our plane to connecting flight without going through security or customs and we had sufficient time. Delta changed our flight, we now have only 53 min layover in ATL with connecting flight on Virgin Atlantic(operated by Delta). A Delta rep is now telling us we will not have enough time because we WILL have to get our luggage and go through customs before boarding our flight to London, because it is the first point we will actually be leaving the US to international destination! I am not sure if we need to panic and pay extra charges to change all our flights via travel agency we went through, or if the one Delta rep we just spoke to was misinformed? Thank you so much for the info you provide!

The Delta rep is an idiot. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. You just take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse (E or F). You have enough time.

Ha! Thanks! I thought that might be the case, but she was so adamant about it regardless of what I said, that I started to question myself and if there had been major changes since we last traveled!

  • ATL Short Connection Time for International Flight

I'm going thru ATL (originate in PHX). We will need to transfer in Atlanta for our flight to Germany. The connection time is only 58 minutes. Is this enough time to get to the international terminal? I have been told that our luggage should be checked all the way to Germany. I am traveling with 4 kids (ages 6, 9, 10, 16). Thanks!!

You don't actually have to change terminals. You just take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse (E or F). You have enough time.

me and my daughter will be traveling to Paris from terminal S and we need to get to a terminal 1,my concern that we only got 1 hour layover,is it enough time? Is it terminal I OR 1?any directions to get there quicker??thank you

ATL does not have a Terminal 1. Where is she flying into Atlanta From? Is the first flight also on Delta? If so she just has to take the Plane Train from her arrival concourse to her departure concourse (E or F). No need to actually change terminals.

yes 1 st flight its delta then airfrance :we flying from wichita (ICT)-to atlanta-to paris france.

  • 40 Min Layover to Bahamas

Hi! We will only have a 40 min layover in Atlanta coming from Monile Alabama and going to the Bahamas. Is that enough time? Will we need to go through security again since we are leaving the US?

No, there is no special security for International flights. You just have to take the plane train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse and board your flight (you will show your passport as you board). You have enough time as long as your flight from Mobile is on-time.

I have only 40 minutes connection coming from Pittsburgh going to Aruba. is that enough time?

It's possible - all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate via the plane train, but it obviously leaves no time to spare if your flight from Pittsburgh is delayed at all.

  • Nassau to Nashville via Atlanta 1h 17m layover

Hi, I'll be making the trip from Nassau to Nashville this September with Delta, as my wife and I are British passport holders I'm doubtful that we'll make our connection even without having to check our bags again. Any thoughts? 1st flight arrives 2:58pm, 2nd leaves 16:15, and it's a Saturday too which probably doesn't help.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Nassau. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate via the Plane Train in Atlanta. You have enough time. Also, Saturday is the least busy travel day in the US.

Thanks Zap, I didn't think the pre security bit applied to us Brits, good news if it does.

Yes, everyone goes through preclearance in Nassau so that the plane can arrive into a domestic gate in the US.
