Flying in from the Bahamas to ATL then onto Uk. Do I have to reclaim bags or do they go straight through? Looks like 2 hour between flights

Where in the Bahamas are you coming from? If you are coming from Freeport or Nassau you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Freeport or Nassau. If you are coming from Georgetown or Marsh Harbour then you will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs. Either way you should have enough time.

  • connection time in Atlanta

Travelling Louisville - Atlanta - Johannesburg on Delta Arrive 18:30, Depart 20:29. Do I need to collect luggage and clear security in Atlanta? Is there enough time to get from Terminal I to S

You don't have to change terminals. All you have to do on your way to Johannesburg in Atlanta is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in concourse E or F. The plane train connects all concourses inside security. You have plenty of time.

Hi, I arrive from DFW to ATL at 4:38pm with Delta, and then fly to London Heathrow with Virgin which leaves at 5:45pm. Is the 1hr7min layover enough time? And will i have to collect baggage etc? It was all booked as one booking

No you don't have to do anything with your baggage. You just have to take the plane train from your arrival concourse to concourse E or F where you depart. You have enough time.

Arriving from Allentown, delta flight and must connect for an international flight to Roatan, also delta, all same ticket. I have only a 1 hr layover. Will I make my connecting flight and can you navigate me.

All you have to do is take the plane train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse (E or F) and board your flight to Roatan.

  • Collecting Luggage for transit

I have a customer who has been booked on a Delta/Virgin codes share they are arriving ATL on the VS flight at 1510hrs and departing for FLL on the Delta flight at 1900hrs will they have to collect their luggage and check in again with it Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time. They will arrive in concourse E/F, go through US Immigration, claim their bags, go through US Customs, re-check their bags immediately after at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the plane train to their departure concourse.

  • Flying from domestic to domestic - DTW to ALT to EYW
    Mar 7, 2016
We are flying from DTW (Detroit) to ALT (Atlanta) to EYW (Key West. Our connecting flight has a 36 min layover. Is this doable in ATL?

It's doable but it leaves no time to spare if the first flight is delayed at all.

  • Connecting to International Flights in ATL

My trip to Europe originates in Savannah to TL and then I change planes to fly to Paris. Can I just check my bags once in Savannah or do I have to retrieve them in Atlanta and go through International Check In again?

You don't have to do anything with your bags in Atlanta. All you have to do is take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to concourse E or F where you will depart.

  • Arriving from domestic flight to depart international

I'm flying from Detroit to layover in Atlanta. We have a 45 min layover before connecting a international flight to Madrid. Flying delta, will I have to claim my baggage and check back in before flying international? Tickets was booked as one round trip for two.

No, you don't have to do anything with your bags in Atlanta. There is no US Customs when leaving the US. You just have to take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to concourse E/F where you will depart.

Thank you so much for your help.

  • Terminal 1 and S

Looking at a flight from Toronto to Atlanta to San Juan. Says arrives at Terminal 1 and departs Terminal S. Is one hour enough time and how far apart are the terminals. Can't find "Terminal S" on the airport terminal map. Thanks.

You don't actually have to change terminals. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Atlanta is take the plane train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse. It connects all concourses inside security.

  • Time needed between 2 domestic Delta flights
    Mar 2, 2016
Flight to Charlotte, NC from Milwaukee, WI going thru ATL - how much time is necessary between flights to catch next one out?

30 minutes is possible but I wouldn't try it myself. 45 minutes is solidly doable. An hour is comfortable.

  • 1h52m layover (DUS > ATL > DAL)
    Mar 1, 2016
We will be flying from Dusseldorf to ATL and have a 1h52m layover for our flight to DAL. I know the procedure of clearing US Immigration, claiming our bags, clear US Customs, dropping bags and clearing security. I just wonder if this is enough time. Also, where exactly do we claim our luggage? I see two different luggage claim spots on the maps (one is called international and the other one F). Thanks for the help.

You should have enough time. Just follow the signs to the correct baggage claim. It will be right after you clear immigration.

My 16 year old daughter will be arriving in Atlanta from Quito Ecuador on July 4. She will then fly to Hartford, CT, both flights on Delta. Will she have to collect her luggage- even if both flights are booked on one ticket? How long should she allow for this connection? thank you in advance for putting a nervous father at ease!

Yes, in Atlanta she will go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, re-check her bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the plane train to her departure concourse and walk to her departure gate. She should allow at least 2 hours for her connection.

thank you so much for the info. it's a school trip but i may have to buy her the atlanta to hartford ticket and i was concerned about her having two different tickets and the connection. i guess it really does not matter as she has to claim her bags anyway. is there any negative to two separate tickets as opposed to both legs on the same ticket?

Yes, it's quite a big difference in Atlanta because on two separate tickets, she will claim her bags and go through Customs in the International Terminal but will have to re-check her bags and go through security in the domestic terminal, which requires taking a bus between them. On two separate reservations I recommend 3 hours between flights.

thanks once again- i have been pushing the school to book the two tickets together to minimize any hassles. I just want to clarify what you wrote - if two tickets she changes terminal via bus, but if same ticket she takes the plane train to the domestic terminal (less time required) correct? So if I have that correctly, I should definitely continue to push for both flights to be issued on one ticket, correct?

Yes, if it's the same ticket she can take the plane train directly to her departure concourse after clearing customs, re-checking her bags, and going through security in the International Terminal. She doesn't even have to go to the domestic terminal.

thank you again - i really appreciate your expertise!

No need to ask the same question twice.

Hi, I'm planning a trip over Christmas 2016 to Bogota, hoping to fly with Delta via Atlanta from London Heathrow. The two connection options that are coming up on the search seem ridiculous though - I have a choice of either 1 hour 37 minutes, or 22 hours?? I can't see that 1 hour 37 would be enough time at all, but why would the airline suggest it if it's completely undoable - has anyone been through the airport this quickly before? Really don't fancy hanging around an airport for 22 hours...

1 hr 37 minutes is not completely impossible but very very difficult. I would say it's probably possible without checked bags.

We are family of 3, US citizens flying Delta SJO - ATL - CHO with a 1hr 33min layover in ATL. Is this doable?

It's doable, but there's no time to spare if there are any delays.
