  • Time to make the connecting flight?
    Jan 9, 2016

My daughter will be flying from Louisville to Atlanta, arriving in Atlanta at 9:04 pm. She is scheduled to depart Atlanta for London at 10:10 pm. Will this be enough time for her to make that flight?

Yes, that is enough time if her flight from Louisville is on-time. All she has to do is go from her arrival gate to her departure gate. The Plane Train connects all concourses inside security.

Will she have to go through security again in Atlanta? Will she have to recheck luggage or will it be automatically transferred to the London plane with out her doing anything? Do you know which terminals she will be arriving at and leaving from? Thank you for your help.

No, she doesn't have to go through security or do anything with her baggage in Atlanta on the way to London. There is no US Customs when leaving the US. She doesn't have to go to any terminal - she just goes from her arrival gate to her departure gate.

  • International to domestic transfer

I know how to get from Atlanta Inter'l concourse E thru immigration, collect luggage, clear customs, & onto ground transportation. If I arrive via Korean Airlines with only carry on luggage, have an electronic boarding pass with my next Delta flight into Orlando-MCO, can I use the plane train to get to the Delta gate if I don't clear customs. Or, do I have to clear customs and take the outside shuttle bus the domestic terminal and start over as though I had just arrived at the airport?

In Atlanta you will go through US Immigration and customs, then go through security and then you will be at the Plane Train, you can take it directly to your departure concourse since you will already have your Delta boarding pass.

Thanks for your comment.Let me see if I understand. Once you go thru customs, you are out of the "Airport Sterile Area", and are at ground transportation. I would then go up to the departure level and go thru the international security and on to the Plane Train. My connection is short. Is there a way to transfer to the Plain Train without exiting thru customs and without leaving the Airport Sterile Area? I will be arriving mid morning next Saturday. When a left Atl on Saturday, 12/19, mid morning, security took 1.2 hours.

No, you slightly misunderstand. Once you clear Customs in Atlanta there is a special security checkpoint that leads back into the secure area and the Plane Train. There is no way that you can enter the US without going through US Customs.

Thanks for your help. After looking at the terminal map, I think I now understand. The special security checkpoint after customs is not the same as the main security on the international departure level that departing travelers use after checking their luggage. Correct?

I am flying home to the UK. I will be flying from DTW (Detroit Wayne) to ATL then from ATL to MAN (Manchester England). It's all on one ticket. Will I have to collect my checked luggage at ATL and re-check?

No, you don't have to do anything in Atlanta with your baggage on your way to Manchester. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi, I`m flying from Charleston 8CHS) to Atlanta (ATL) and then to London (LHR). I`ll go through customs in CHS. I`ll arrive in ATL at 6:29 pm, my flight for London departs 7:20 pm, leaving 51 minutes. Havent booked the flight yet, will I make that connection?

Actually you won't go through customs in Charleston. There is no US Customs when departing the US. You will go through Security in Charleston. Yes, you can make that connection if your flight from CHS is on-time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The Plane Train connects all concourses inside security.

Hi, if I fly from Jacksonville to Toronto, and have only 1h transit in Atlanta, is it enough? US immigration, custom check will be done in Jax, right?

There is no US Customs or Immigration when leaving the US. All you have to do in Atlanta is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The Plane Train connects all concourses inside security. You have enough time. You will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs when you get to Toronto.

Arrive 1740 depart 1920. Can luggage be checked in from PLS to JNB and is this enough connecting time?

That is barely enough time. Your bags will be tagged through to JNB, but in Atlanta you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, and go through security.

If I'm on an incoming flight from BRU to LAX with a transfer on ATL and I'm continuing my journey on the same plane (that's what the booking info says), do I have to leave the plane to go through border security and rechecking my bag (got 90 minutes transfer time) or will that be saved for my arrival in LAX because we are continuing in the same plane? (Delta flight 81 mondays)

You will actually change planes. In Atlanta, You will arrive in Concourse E/F, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security, and take the plane train to your departure kiosk. 90 minutes is just enough time.

  • Connection from YUL to SCL

Hi! Flying from YUL (US customs at departure) to SCL (Santiago de Chile) on 5 January. Do I have to go through customs and pick up bag and recheck it? Thanks!

If both tickets are on the same reservation and your bags are checked through to Panama then you don't have to do anything with them in LAX.

I fly through Atlanta from YUL to Santiago in Chile. Same thing?

Yes, sorry posted in the wrong question but yes, since you preclear in Montreal you don't have to do anything with your bags in Atlanta.

  • Assistance for short connection time
    Jan 1, 2015

Hi, I have a connection on 2/12 with checked in luggage: 20:07 arrival from Cancun, 22:10 departure to London Heathrow, both Delta. Is there any assistance or fast tracking through immigration or security queues if the queues are long or the first flight is delayed? Thanks so much in advance

That should be enough time. Most passengers will be connecting so cutting in front of them wouldn't really be fair, thus there are no express lines

Hi my daughter and her family 1 infant 1 child will be travelling LHR-ATL-TPA they have 1hr 35mins. is this enough? I queried with the agent at time of booking who said if this what was suggested by the airline then its enough but Im not sure reading posts here that it is doable.

It is barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

Oh Gosh, I did query with agent at time of booking now Im concerned with 2 children and from what I have read having to collect cases and clear customs and clear security it seems it won't be sufficient time. Do airport/airline staff at ATL assist passengers who are in transit? They do at LHR. Do you have any tips? thanks

oops. I forgot to say thank your ro the reply.

There is some staff there to assist people, but nearly everyone on your flight will be connecting to another flight.

Flying all Delta, landing in Atl and connecting to San Antonio, will 1 hour be enough time? Traveling alone with infant.

That is enough time if your first flight is domestic. The Plane Train connects all concourses inside security.
