Flying from Amsterdam to Ft Lauderdale with Delta, do we need to recheck our lugage? Or only through immigration and then to the next gate?

Yes, you will arrive in E or F, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the Plane Train to your departure concourse.

  • Customs or NO customs when flying international?

We booked a flight to London from BNA thru ATL months ago. Left 1hr 13 min layover based upon speaking to Delta and reading this forum stating we only have to get from our plane to connecting flight without going through security or customs and we had sufficient time. Delta changed our flight, we now have only 53 min layover in ATL with connecting flight on Virgin Atlantic(operated by Delta). A Delta rep is now telling us we will not have enough time because we WILL have to get our luggage and go through customs before boarding our flight to London, because it is the first point we will actually be leaving the US to international destination! I am not sure if we need to panic and pay extra charges to change all our flights via travel agency we went through, or if the one Delta rep we just spoke to was misinformed? Thank you so much for the info you provide!

The Delta rep is an idiot. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. You just take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse (E or F). You have enough time.

Ha! Thanks! I thought that might be the case, but she was so adamant about it regardless of what I said, that I started to question myself and if there had been major changes since we last traveled!

  • ATL Short Connection Time for International Flight

I'm going thru ATL (originate in PHX). We will need to transfer in Atlanta for our flight to Germany. The connection time is only 58 minutes. Is this enough time to get to the international terminal? I have been told that our luggage should be checked all the way to Germany. I am traveling with 4 kids (ages 6, 9, 10, 16). Thanks!!

You don't actually have to change terminals. You just take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse (E or F). You have enough time.

me and my daughter will be traveling to Paris from terminal S and we need to get to a terminal 1,my concern that we only got 1 hour layover,is it enough time? Is it terminal I OR 1?any directions to get there quicker??thank you

ATL does not have a Terminal 1. Where is she flying into Atlanta From? Is the first flight also on Delta? If so she just has to take the Plane Train from her arrival concourse to her departure concourse (E or F). No need to actually change terminals.

yes 1 st flight its delta then airfrance :we flying from wichita (ICT)-to atlanta-to paris france.

  • 40 Min Layover to Bahamas

Hi! We will only have a 40 min layover in Atlanta coming from Monile Alabama and going to the Bahamas. Is that enough time? Will we need to go through security again since we are leaving the US?

No, there is no special security for International flights. You just have to take the plane train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse and board your flight (you will show your passport as you board). You have enough time as long as your flight from Mobile is on-time.

I have only 40 minutes connection coming from Pittsburgh going to Aruba. is that enough time?

It's possible - all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate via the plane train, but it obviously leaves no time to spare if your flight from Pittsburgh is delayed at all.

  • Nassau to Nashville via Atlanta 1h 17m layover

Hi, I'll be making the trip from Nassau to Nashville this September with Delta, as my wife and I are British passport holders I'm doubtful that we'll make our connection even without having to check our bags again. Any thoughts? 1st flight arrives 2:58pm, 2nd leaves 16:15, and it's a Saturday too which probably doesn't help.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Nassau. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate via the Plane Train in Atlanta. You have enough time. Also, Saturday is the least busy travel day in the US.

Thanks Zap, I didn't think the pre security bit applied to us Brits, good news if it does.

Yes, everyone goes through preclearance in Nassau so that the plane can arrive into a domestic gate in the US.

Flying 30th june .Is 48 minutes long enough to get through ATL for connecting flight to Manchester UK.

Yes, it is enough time if your flight from Orlando is on-time. You just take the plane train from your arrival concourse to concourse E or F where you depart and then board your flight.

Hi I am leaving Punta Cana and arriving in ATL at 7:03 then departing to BOS at 9:00. Is this enough time? We are US citizens with connecting flight (one ticket)

It should be enough time assuming everything goes smoothly.

Any tips to make sure things go smoothly? I have to recheck the baggage correct?

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and take the plane train to your departure concourse.

Hi, my flight arrives from Key West at 9am, I then have 45 minutes to get a flight to New York. Is this enough time? What happens to my checked luggage? Thanks

Yes, that is enough time. You don't have to do anything with your baggage. Just walk go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The Plane Train connects all concourses inside security.

Will i need to go through security again to connect to my international flight to rio? Or just go straight to the international terminals

You just have to take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to concourse E or F where you depart. No security.

We're flying from Myrtle Beach to ATL with a layover until international flight to Amsterdam, all via Delta. Will our bags be checked from MYR all the way thru to AMS?

If all of your flights are on the same ticket you will not have to worry about your bags. If you bought them on separate tickets then yes you will have to recheck your bags.

You don't have to do anything with your bags in Atlanta on your way to Amsterdam. You just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate using the plane train.

Hi, my daughter who is 18 will be traveling alone tomorrow 6/3 with Delta to Atlanta and will have only 40 minutes to change planes. I am concerned that she may not make it to the next plane. I know the airport is very big and she may get confused as to where to go. Any tips to pass on to my daughter? Thanks

The Plane Train connects all concourses inside security in the middle. The airport is large but the layout is very simple.

That does not tell us anything. My son is 17 traveling alone and how is he to know to get on the train to go to next place. You already canceled a flight on him in Houston yesterday. I am concerned you will do it again

I am a volunteer who answers questions. I did not do anything to your son. If your son is 17 and can't figure out how to follow signs or walk through an airport without getting lost then he has lived a tragically sheltered life.

We are flying from Manchester with Virgin and will have a 2 hour lay over at Atlanta on the way out before flying on with Delta to Orlando. I am concerned about timings. Will we need to re-check the bags and go through security? Is 2 hours enough time? On the flight back from Orlando vis Atlanta to Manchester we are with Virgin on both legs, but only have an hour. Is this do able with bags, security etc. Will we need to go through Immigration on either journey? Thank you

On your way to Orlando, You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the Plane Train to your departure concourse. On the way back you just go from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse via the plane train. You do not have to go through security and there is no US Customs when exiting the US. Note that your Orlando-Atlanta flight will be operated by Delta, do not go to the Virgin counter in Orlando.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I still think we are going to really struggle with the connections - you live and learn and I won't do it again!
