Honiara Internatonal HIR Airport Overview

Honiara International Airport HIR, the former Henderson Field (an important U.S. airfield during WW2), is located on north shore of the island of Guadalcanal, one of the Solomon Islands, and 10 km from the capital of Honiara. Honiara Airport is accessible from Kukum Highway. It is the only international airport serving the Solomon Islands, and it is host to Solomon Airlines, Virgin Blue and Air Niugini.
The Airport levies a departure tax of SI$40, payable in cash. 

NOTE: If you need to change planes and your next departure is in the early morning, your best option is to stay at the on-airport motel. Presently the Airport opens a few hours before an expected international flight. There are only up to three flights a day, arriving mostly mid-days at the Internationa Terminal.   A number of passengers recommend the Chester house for overnight accommodations.

Honiary International Airport has two small and separate passenger terminals - the Domestic Terminal and the International Terminal. 
The Domestic terminal is 500 meters away from the International Terminal.
The  International Terminal consists of three check-in desks, a bank, a VIP lounge, a duty-free shop, a gift shop, as well as a travel agent, a tourist information desk, and a rental car desk.

To get from the Airport to your destination, plenty of Taxis are available - no need to make reservations.
