MSN Airport & Flight Info

  • MSN Airport Overview
Despite its name, Dane County Regional MSN Airport in Madison, Wisconsin - located about five miles northeast of the city Center of Madison - is no longer just a regional airport, due to the considerable increase in passengers and airlines. The roadway approach to the airport is simple and streamlined. The International Lane is four lanes divided by traffic separation islands. An electronic sign welcomes you and advises of any new parking information.

Easy Dropoffs & Pickups - getting in and out of MSN Airport is easy: one way leads into the airport and one way out. As you drive into the complex, the turnoffs to hourly, daily and surface parking come up on the left. The roadway in front of the terminal is divided into six lanes, four lanes for dropping off/ picking up passengers, and two lanes for commercial service vehicles, affording better curb access in front of the terminal.

A separate holding bay for taxicabs, a rental car area and the exit for pass-through traffic are situated at the north end of the parking area.

Function and beauty are the norm at the newly expanded and re-designed airport terminal. The project, completed in three phases over five years (2001 – 2006), doubles the size of the terminal to 278,000 square feet. The terminal now also includes: 1. an executive conference room equipped with kitchen and audio-visual equipment, two new training / conference rooms and work-stations for business travelers; and 2. a "Meeters and Greeters Lounge"

Leisure travelers, especially those with children, appreciate the family and mother’s lounges, variety of restaurants, and clean, safe and secure atmosphere. A convention and tourist information booth and a postal center are located near baggage claim. MSN Airport Terminal and Main Check Point open daily at 4 a.m., while TSA Security Check Point at the South End of the Terminal is open daily from 4:30-7am. All airport facilities are ADA-accessible. Wide corridors, open spaces, elevators and fully accessible restrooms ease movement for persons with disabilities. TTY phones for the deaf and hard of hearing are also available. Ground transportation is easy with rental cars available just outside the terminal, hotel courtesy phones and shuttle service to many hotels.

Airline policies regarding pets vary widely and it is highly recommended that you contact the airline prior to making a reservation. Here are some helpful tips for traveling with pets:

    Tips for Traveling with Pets:

    · First, contact your airline to find out the rules and regulations they have on pet travel.
    · Do not tranquilize your pet, as the effects of tranquilizers on animals at higher altitudes can be unpredictable.
    · The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has set up rules and regulations for the transportation of live animals, and your pet is required to be at least eight weeks old and fully weaned before traveling by air.
    · Whenever possible, book a direct, nonstop flight and avoid holiday or weekend travel. Try to plan schedules that minimize temperature extremes.
    · The kennel that you use must be sturdy, properly ventilated, and large enough for your pet to freely be able to stand, turn around and lie down.
    · Get your pet comfortable with the kennel prior to flying; this reduces stress on your pet.
    · Give your pet food and water within four hours before your flight. You will have to sign a certification of the time when you last offered food and water to your pet.
    · Give yourself plenty of time for check-in so there is no rushing and everything is done properly.
