• MKE Airport Overview
  General Mitchell International (MKE) Airport is a medium-sized airport located in Milwaukee, Wis., the home of Miller beer and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. It is named in honor of General William Mitchell, a Milwaukee native and a vigorous advocate for aviation during and after World War I. Fourteen airlines, including regional jets, service the airport offering nonstop or direct flights to approximately 90 cities. Midwest Airlines uses Milwaukee MKE airport, the largest in Wisconsin, as a hub. In addition to commercial airlines, several vacation package/charter airlines operate out of the airport offering escapes to sunny destinations during the long Wisconsin winter. MKE airport is compact and easy to navigate – it consists of a main terminal with two levels and three concourses. The newest concourse, Concourse D, was opened in 1990 to accommodate increased airport traffic.

  General Mitchell International Airport (GMIA) is Wisconsin’s busiest airport, serving more than six million passengers annually. Realizing that a number of these travelers, as well as meters, greeters, and employees are people with disabilities or are mobility-limited and require assistance, the Airport and its airline tenants want to help make your trip more pleasant by providing information and services to meet your needs.
  
  Our building and facilities are wheelchair accessible, and each section of the airport has a Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD). The services and benefits described are delivered without discrimination on the basis of handicap. The Airports Council International offers the following suggestions:
  
  Make your airline reservation well in advance. Identify yourself as a traveler needing assistance and/or special arrangements, and describe what you need. This is the only way to be sure this information gets into the airline system and is distributed to the personnel who will assist you. Some examples of the kind of information airlines need to know:
  1. Do you wish to transport your own wheelchair? If so, Is it battery-powered or manual?
  2. Will you be accompanied by a guide dog trained to assist the blind, the deaf, or physically handicapped?
  3. Do you have any need for airline-supplied equipment, such as wheelchairs or portable oxygen?
  
  Make it a practice to check in earlier than the regular check-in time. This makes it easier for the airline to meet your personal needs and helps with the pre-boarding process so you may be seated comfortably in the aircraft.
  
  The facilities and services provided at General Mitchell International Airport have been carefully planned for the convenience of all passengers, and conform to federal guidelines for individuals with disabilities.
  
  Planning Your Flight:
  When finalizing your travel arrangements, be sure to inform your agent of your personal needs. If a jetway is not provided for your flight, airline officials will assist you on and off the aircraft with advance notice. For special dietary needs, contact your airline at least 24 hours prior to your departure time to make arrangements.
  
  Ground Transportation Services:
  Several local ground transport companies will accommodate passengers who use wheelchairs. Fares are available upon request, and City Veteran Cab is subsidized for Milwaukee County residents through the User Side Subsidy Program.   Parking at the Airport:
