- ATL Airport Overview
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport ATL, located 7 miles S of business district Atlanta, GA, is the world's largest airport (5.8 million square feet), with an international and six domestic concourses, serving over 75 million passengers per year. The airport’s underground train keeps passengers moving efficiently between the concourses and the terminals and saves time and effort walking through drab underground corridors. Security checkpoint lines at times are very long and it is recommended that on busy days passengers arrive at the airport more than two hours ahead of scheduled flight departure. A $5.4 billion, 10-year development program is designed to modernize and expand airport facilities.
Hartsfield-Jackson is primary hub for Delta Air Lines, Air Tran Airways, Delta Connection and partner Atlantic Southeast. Atlanta Airport, with its 180 gates, serves as major transfer point for flights to/from smaller US cities. It is also an international gateway to/from the United States. ATL is equipped to handle triple simultaneous landings, offering over 200 nonstop destinations, over 70 of which are international ones.
