- LGA Airport Overview
LaGuardia Airport LGA has been operated by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey under a lease with the City of New York since June 1, 1947. It is located in the Borough of Queens, New York City, bordering on the Flushing and Bowery Bays, and is eight miles from midtown Manhattan. LGA airport is the main domestic airport of New York City. A perimeter rule prohibits incoming and outgoing flights that exceed 1,500 miles, so most transcontinental and international flights use the other major New York area airports, JFK Airport or Newark Liberty Airport. However, LaGuardia is still served by over 20 airlines and offers nonstop daily flights to numerous destinations in the U.S. and Canada. There are also seasonal flights to the Bahamas and Bermuda. In the late 90s, LaGuardia routinely experienced overcrowding-related delays, but the crush of passengers has been alleviated in recent years due to the September 11th tragedy and expansion projects that have increased the airport’s capacity. La Guardia LGA airport consists of four terminals: the Central Terminal (Concourses A - D), the Delta Terminal, the US Airways Terminal, and the Marine Terminal (used by Delta Shuttle only).

US Airways Terminal
East end airport roadways were reconfigured and expanded to handle the increased traffic at that end of the airport where the 12-gate US Airways Terminal opened on September 12, 1992. The terminal connects to US Airways Shuttle Terminal and adjoins its lobby and check-in areas.
US Airways Shuttle Terminal
The eight-gate US Airways Shuttle Terminal serves passengers on hourly shuttle flights to Boston and Washington, D.C. It has been operated by US Airways since April 1992.

Marine Air Terminal (MAT)
Once called the Overseas terminal, this was the original airport terminal building, constructed near the bay to serve the flying boats that dominated international air travel in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The MAT is two-storied and domed, with an interior rotunda. QUESTIONS TO ASK IN ADVANCE
To find out about accessibility on board the airplane, contact your travel agent or airline representative.
Before making your reservations, here are some other questions you should ask to make your trip easier:
- How accessible is the terminal from the parking lot or the place where I will be dropped off? Will I need assistance to get into the terminal?
- Are there accessible elevators available? Where are they?
- Will I need an airline representative to assist me (when boarding, arriving or claiming my baggage)?
- Does the airline provide special assistance aboard the aircraft?

- Will I be changing planes and will that require a terminal change?
- Are there fees for any of these services?

It will be easier if you make reservations with your airline or travel agent well in advance of your trip, and inform them of any assistance you may require, e.g., a wheelchair (departing and arriving), specific seating requests, specific kinds of food, etc.
