LAX Airport & Flight Info Traveler Help

  • LAX Airport Overview
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), located in southern California on the Pacific coast, 15 miles SW of downtown Los Angeles, is first in rank as international gateway to the Pacific Rim and Asia. Close to 90 passenger and cargo airlines serve LAX. Arriving international flights from overseas contribute substantially to the economy of Southern California. LAX is ranked fifth in the world for passengers volume it serves each year. Nearly every major domestic and international airline serves LAX, providing flights across the U.S. and around the world, particularly long-haul flights to/fr. Asia, Australasia and Latin America. Los Angeles airport consists of 10 separate terminals to handle all of those passengers, including the very busy Tom Bradley International Terminal. There are two options to switch terminals to catch a connecting flight: walk (check distances before you embark on this with luggage) or take the free Airline Connections shuttle bus that runs every 12 to 15 minutes. For layover time you might want to live out your Jetson’s fantasies at LAX’ retro Encounter Restaurant located 70 feet above the ground in a historic building that looks like a flying saucer that sprouted legs. Back on earth, LAX has a reputation for being difficult to navigate and prone to delays, especially in the immigration lines for international arrivals, so be sure to plan accordingly.
