• MEM Airport Overview
  You have entered Elvis country at Memphis International Airport (MEM), located 12 miles southeast of downtown Memphis. Travelers from around the country and the world pass through the airport while making a pilgrimage to Graceland, Elvis Presley's 14-acre estate, which is a short distance from the airport.
  
  Memphis airport is served by six major airlines and several regional jet services that operate out of three terminals. Northwest Airlines uses the airport as a hub and operates out of Terminal B. The other major presence at the airport is FedEx Express, which was founded at the airport in 1973. FedEx uses Memphis airport as its “Super Hub” making it the busiest cargo airport in the world.
  
  Travelers will encounter new amenities at MEM airport, as the aging terminal facilities recently went through a major renovation. But, never fear, the Elvis-themed gift shop is still open so you can grab that final souvenir before heading home.

• Baggage Carts / Skycap at Memphis MEM Airport
  CARTS AND CURBSIDE CHECK-IN / BAGGAGE HANDLING AT MEM AIRPORT:
  
  Baggage carts are available for rent from the upper & lower drives and the parking garage as well as inside the terminal in all three baggage claim lobbies and gate concourses. Baggage cart rental is $2.00 with a 25 cent reward for returning cart to storage rack. The fee is payable with Cash ($1 or $5 bills, 5, 10, 25-cent coins) with change given for amount over purchase, OR Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover). Skycap service is also available throughout the airport to persons needing special assistance.

  Banking Branches:
  
  1. Regions has a branch inside the airport in the passenger connector between concourse B & A. The Bank is staffed 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday. Phone 901-762-5950. Regions offers three ATM machines. One is located adjacent to the branch, one is located on the B concourse at the rotunda, and the other is located in the main terminal near Backyard Burger. The ATMs also accept Visa, Plus, Mastercard, Cirrus, Discover/Norvus, Maestro, and Pulse.
  
  2. Wings Financial Federal Credit Union has a branch in Ticket Lobby "C"; It is open 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday. Wings has an ATM outside of the branch and another ATM in concourse B at the rotunda. The Wings ATM accepts Visa, Plus, MasterCard, Cirrus, Amex, Discover, Star, and Fast bank.

  Automatic Teller machines are located in the main terminal and on concourse B. Three local banks offer ATMs in ticket lobby B near Backyard Burger across from the US Airways/American West ticket counter.

  Three conference rooms with data port connections and Internet access make it an ideal place to conduct business away from the office. Each conference room can be used for meetings before or between trips, to conduct interviews, make conference calls or sales presentations, etc. They are located in the Work Center between Terminals A and B and at the A security checkpoint before the security checkpoints.   The Dorothy L. Bobbitt Health Station is open to the traveling public and Airport employees for illnesses, minor injuries, accidents and any emergencies that may occur. A registered nurse is available daily Mo-Fri, 8am-4:30pm.

  MEMPHIS AIRPORT INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS: Memphis International Airport was granted Transit Without Visa Port-of-Entry status in 1995 by the U.S. Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service. This status benefits foreign travelers whose flight will connect through the Memphis International hub on their way to another foreign destination beyond the United States. These travelers will no longer be required to have a U.S. transit visa just to connect through the airport.

  Memphis Airport has a Main Terminal with three Concourses: A, B and C.

  Handicapped Access at MEM Airport:
  
  Parking - FREE designated, clearly marked handicapped parking is available for handicap parking - provided that you have a "hang tag" or appropriately designated license plate. On the blank side of your parking ticket write your "hang tag" handicap permit number, the expiration date, license plate number, ydrivers license number, home telephone number, and your signature. Please hand it to the person in the booth upon exiting. Location:
  • Lower Level has 28 handicapped spaces in short term only.
  • Ground Level has 18 handicapped spaces in short term only.

  • Handicapped Parking is also available for the traveling public along the passenger drive in arrivals and departures. Upper Level has 3 spaces and Lower Level has 4 spaces.

  Animals are not permitted in the terminals at the Airport unless they are being used to assist disabled individuals, or are in proper pet carriers.
  
  Airline policies regarding pets vary widely and it is highly recommended that you contact the airline prior to making a reservation. Here are some helpful tips for traveling with pets:

  · First, contact your airline to find out the rules and regulations they have on pet travel.
  · Do not tranquilize your pet, as the effects of tranquilizers on animals at higher altitudes can be unpredictable.
  · The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has set up rules and regulations for the transportation of live animals, and your pet is required to be at least eight weeks old and fully weaned before traveling by air.
  · Whenever possible, book a direct, nonstop flight and avoid holiday or weekend travel. Try to plan schedules that minimize temperature extremes.
  · The kennel that you use must be sturdy, properly ventilated, and large enough for your pet to freely be able to stand, turn around and lie down.
  · Get your pet comfortable with the kennel prior to flying; this reduces stress on your pet.
  · Give your pet food and water within four hours before your flight. You will have to sign a certification of the time when you last offered food and water to your pet.
  · Give yourself plenty of time for check-in so there is no rushing and everything is done properly

  TRANSLATION SERVICES AT MEM AIRPORT:
  
  Northwest / KLM Royal Dutch Airlines provides interpreters in the Customs Clearance Facility and the boarding areas for international flights. Interpreters can accommodate Dutch, German, Arabic, Spanish and French speaking passengers.
  
  In addition, Northwest / KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has an agreement with the AT&T language line which puts passengers on the phone with an interpreter of any language in a matter of minutes.

  AIRLINE CLUBS - Northwest/KLM /KLM Airlines World Club is located in the connector next to Terminal “B” checkpoint and is open daily. Membership is required.
  
  PHONE CARDS - International Travel Insurance has six Airport vending machines in the Airport to purchase Pre-Paid Phone Cards for long distance service. One machine is located in “C” concourse near Gate C12. There are three machines in “B” concourse. One machine is located near the Blue Note Cafe, the second machine is located near B12 and the last one is located near B35. The “A” concourse has one machine and it is located near A19. The machines accept U.S. currency only and you may buy phone cards for $10 for 20 minutes or $20 for 40 minutes. All machines dispense AT&T phone cards.
  
  HAIRPORT - on the Second Level of the Airport between Ticket Lobby B & C and is open daily providing haircuts/shampoo/sets for men and women.
