  • United to Virgin America
    Oct 5, 2015
Can I check in my bags with United and have them switch the bags over to Virgin America or do I have to go to baggage claim, get the bags and recheck them with VA and go thru security again?

You have to claim them from United, take them to Terminal 3, and re-check them with VA.

  • Houston Arrival Different Airlines
    Oct 1, 2015
We have a group of 26 pax arriving to Houston. Flights will be Antigua to Miami on American, then Miami to Houston on American, then Houston to Austin on UNITED. Customs will have been cleared in Miami. All are US citizens. What happens to the bags in Houston? Will American automatically transfer bags to the United flight? Or do passengers need to go to baggage claim, then back through security? (layover is 80 minutes) Thank you for any help!

If booked on separate tickets you will have to claim and recheck your bags with United

  • Connection time with checked luggage Cincinnati (CVG)
    Oct 1, 2015
Hi, I have a Delta Connection flight from Washington Reagan (DCA) to Charlotte (CLT) on Tuesday 8 December at 1:30pm. We are 5 people with 10 checked bags. The layover and connection time in Cincinnati (CVG) is 50 minutes. My question is will 50 minutes be enough time to change planes and for Delta to load the baggage on the CVG/CLT flight ? What happens if we face delays? Thanks

That should be enough time. CVG is a small airport with few connecting passengers these days.

  • Connection time with checked luggage in ATL
    Oct 1, 2015
Hi, I have a Delta flight from Charlotte (CLT) to Orlando (MCO) on Sunday 13 December and we are 5 people with 10 checked bags. The layover and connection time in ATL is 61 minutes. My question is will the 61 minutes be enough time to change planes and for the baggage to be loaded on the ATL/MCO flight ? We are concerned as we are booked on a cruise and need the luggage. Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time as long as your first flight is on-time. The Plane Train connects all concourses inside security.

My flight is on Emirates from Bengaluru (BLR) to Dallas (DFW) and then from DFW to Costa Rica (SJO) on American Airlines..Do i need to collect my baggage and check again . Also do i need to go through port of entry?

In Dallas you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags (at the re-check desk if purchased on one reservation, and at the AA counter if on separate), and go through security.

  • Do I need to claim bags and recheck to Korean Air?
    Sep 24, 2015
Hello - I will be flying from PDX to LAX on Alaska Airlines then have a 3 hour layover and need to be on Korean Air flying to ICN. Do I need to go to baggage claim in LAX, get my bags and recheck onto Korean Air or will they go right through even though they are different airlines? The tickets were bought at the same time. Thanks for your help!

If you purchased your tickets together then your bags will be tagged through to ICN and you do not have to claim them in LAX. You just have to go from T6 to the International Terminal and through security. You should have plenty of time.

my flight is on United from San Diego to Newark, and then from JFK to New Delhi, booked on the same reservation. is it possible to check my bags in directly to New Delhi, or do I have to collect them at EWR and recheck them in at JFK?

You will have to claim them at EWR and re-check them at JFK. YOu will need at leas 4 hours for your transfer in New York.

I am flying in United from Lima to CA and my stop is in Huston Texas. May I need to pick up my luggage at Texas or I need to only change airport gates since my ticket is only with united?

Is "CA" California, Air China, or Canada? You will have to go through US Immigration and customs in Houston after your arrival from Lima.

  • Customs & Immigration + baggage 1h25 layover
    Sep 17, 2015
Good morning, I will be travelling from Paris Charles de Gaulle to San Francisco with a layover in Dallas Ft Worth with American Airlines for both flights. The two flights have been purchased together as a package on BritishAirways. I was wondering if 1h25 minutes was actually enough to desembark the plane, go through Customs and then to the connecting flight. Also will I have to recheck my baggage at Dallas or will it be transfered directly to San Francisco ? Thank you in advance for your help. Kindest regards.

In DFW you will arrive in Terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security, and then take the SkyLink train to your departure terminal (it probably will not be D). 1 hr 25 minutes is 5 minutes shorter than the minimum International to Domestic connection time at DFW and is 35 minutes shorter than what I recommend.

Hello there! Thank you for taking the time to answer! How come the connection is of only 1h25 minutes then? What would happen if because of immigration or customs I miss my connection? Would it be AA responsibility? As I said both flights are with AA and have been purchased altogether. I am a European citizen and would not have any problems at immigration but as I am arriving at 15h35 in Dallas Airport... there might be a bit of people waiting. I contacted British Airways as I placed my order with them and they told me that there was absolutely nothing to worry about and that I would have time anyway. By the way can I ask them to transfer my baggage directly to destination? Or do I necessarily have to collect them and go through Customs?

You have to collect your baggage to go through US Customs. That is a legal requirement. If you do miss your connection AA would rebook you on the next available flight to San Francisco.
