  • Airport change and baggage problem
    Nov 7, 2014

Hi there ! I have a flight from Toronto to Newyork and then a layover change of airport flight from Newark to Mumbai (India). 1. My Newyork flight lands at 10am and have my 2nd flight from Newark at 4.25pm. ( have a 6.5 hours gap betwwen my next flight from Newark). What is the best and cheapest way to get to Newark airport from Newyork airport since it takes 2 hours to reach Newark airport. I don't want to spend much money since I am a student. 2. I will have to collect my baggage from Newyork airport and re-check in at Newark airport. I have a US visa, can I board my flight from Newark since my tickets are already booked for 2nd of December and non refundable. I am very confused and upset on how to tackle this situation. Please suggest the best and cheapest way and to be on time for my flight. Would appreciate a quick reply from you. Thank you.

New York has 2 airports in addition to Newark. Are you arriving at LGA or JFK? The route to Newark is different depending on what airport you are arriving at. Why don't you think you can board your flight from Newark if you have a US Visa? You should have plenty of time to get between airports. Even using public transit the trip between airports should be less than 3 hours.

I am arriving at JFK airport in New York. Sounds perfect. But what is the cheapest way to get to Newark liberty international airport? If Air train is a good option. How do I take the air train once I arrive? I also need to collect my baggage once I arrive Newyork JFK.

Yes, both of those airports are connected to the train system. TO take the train, you take the JFK AirTrain to the Jamaica/Sutphin station and transfer to the Long Island Railroad to Penn Station, then at Penn Station, transfer to the New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor Train towards Trenton. You will exit at the Newark Airport station and take the EWR Airtrain to your departure terminal.

Oh ok. And how much do I pay for my whole Air train trip to Newark Airport from Newyork JFK Airport? Where do I need to go to enquire about the air train in New York JFK airport once I arrive? Sorry, I am a little confused since will be doing change of airports for the first time and don't want to get lost and waste time

  • T5 to T3 connections

I am flying in from Spain on Iberian arriving at T5 with just under two hours for a connection on Envoy to YYZ. What do I have to do re baggage and getting to T3 Thank You.

Upon arrival at T5 you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and then re-check your bags at the transfer desk. Then you will go up two levels to the ATS train and take it one stop to T3 and go through security.

  • Do I have to take luggage out in Dallas for a 10 hour layover?

I will fly from Calgary, Canada to Miami, Florida, has a 10 hours layover in Dallas, will my luggage be sent from Calgary to Miami directly? Just wonder if I have to drag my luggage around until the next morning for a 5 am connecting flight? Is there a high chance of my luggage of being lost if it sits in the airport for 10 hours to the next connecting flight? Thanks

  • Terminal 1 Exit to smoke?
    Oct 17, 2014

United Flight arrives at 4:30 - Connection is at 6 - Both Terminal 1. Advise closest exit to smoke please. Thank you!

There's only one exit to Terminal 1 - the front doors. Note that the Chicago code requires you to go quite a ways away from the doors to smoke as well. You have enough time as long as you head back to security by 5:15.

Thank you...actually, it appears that my connection departs from Concourse B. Is that closer to the exit doors? TY again..;)

I forgot to mention..I am flying First Class - will that make a difference on timing? Security? TY...

I have a flight that arrives at LGA at 4:55 and have to catch a flight on Aeroflot at 8:20 in JFK. Do I have enough time?

It should be doable. It will take about an hour to get between the two airports via a taxi at that time, so assuming it takes about 20 minutes to get your luggage, you will get to JFK around 6:15, still over 2 hours before your Aeroflot flight. However, that assumes that your first flight is on-time.

  • Connecting flight AMS-ODR-SFO

I have connecting flight from AMS-ODR-SFO. Layover in Chicago is 1 hour and 45 minutes. I'm not an US-citizen, so my biggest concern is the lane at the migration. This is my first time at the O'hare airport, so I also don't know the distance from the migration to the baggage claim and from the baggage claim to the counter to drop off my bags again. Could you please tell me the connecting flight procedure? Is there a fast lane at the migration for people who need to catch their next flight? Is 1 hour and 45 minutes enough time to make the connection? And how far is the baggage claim to the drop off counter?

Arriving UA from SAN to ESB connecting flight in IAH. do I have to collect checked baggage and re-check for the onward flight?

You do not collect baggage or go through customs on connections when leaving the US. So, no.

I arrive from IAD at 2:31 PM UA 1283 tomorrow and need to make a connecting flight UA 5560 to PSP which departs at 3:07 PM. I do not know what gates I arrive or take out of, the first United Airlines the second United Express. Will I have enough time? I will also be traveling alone with my two year old son, is there any assistance that I can request?

The only way is the shuttle bus. T1 and T3 are closer than they look on the map.

I am flying in from Mexico, do I need to go through customs again before boarding an ongoing flight?

1 Hour is not enough time for your connection. You need to get an earlier flight from Venice. It can take a half hour to get from T1 where you arrive to T5 where you need to check in for your United flight. By the time you get there, you will have missed the bag and check-in cutoff time.

  • Son is on first international flight

My son is flying United from Seattle to SFO and then taking Lufthansa to France. Where does he go through customs; Seattle or SFO? His layover at SFO in only about an hour and a half.

He will only go through EU customs when he enters the EU in Germany after his lufthansa flight. You do not have to go through customs when exiting the US.

  • How long will it take for me to go to southwest airline terminal?

Hi. I'm going to be flying in from SFO to LAX on Virgin American around 5:45. And then i have another flight from LAX to PHX on Southwest Airline at 8:15. I'm worried that I might not make it to the terminal because these two flights are not connected. How long will baggage claim take if I'm flying domestic? and do you think I'll make it to southwest and catch my flight on time?

You should have enough time. Your bags will probably be out within 20 minutes of arrival. It's about a 10-15 minute walk along the curbfront from T3 to T1 (walk to the left, against the flow of traffic).

I am flying from Regan National airport to IAH on my way to Mexico. Do I have to go through customs security in IAH since Regan is not International?

You do not have to go through customs when you LEAVE the country, only when you enter. You will go through customs for the country you are traveling to when you arrive there.
