Terminal 4: might need to transfer to T2Jun 7, 201300The new Terminal 4 at JFK is a big improvement, BUT BEWARE! If flying Delta, many of the flights actually depart out of terminal 2, but you don't know that until you walk all the way to a gate in T4, only to find you need to take a shuttle bus to T2, which can add 25 minutes. We almost missed our flight!Pilot Peteposted on Fri, Jun 7

I'm Clueless...Jun 7, 201340This is the first time I've flown internationally, and I'm completely clueless about how to check in, get a boarding pass, go through security with my passport, customs, etc. I'm flying from Nashville to Detroit to Amsterdam, then to Copenhagen on KLM. If someone with knowledge of those airports could give me a step-by-step, I would sleep much better tonight :)BenAposted on Thu, Jun 6You will get all your boarding passes in Nashville at the Delta check-in (or online from Delta). Your flight from Nashville to Detroit will be like any other domestic flight, you'll then just have to find your flight to Amsterdam, which will be in the same terminal. In Amsterdam you will cross from Non-Schengen to Schengen and go through immigration for the EU. You will then be on what is essentially a domestic flight to Copenhagen.ZAPposted on Thu, Jun 6Thanks for the quick reply! Another question- will I need to go through security and show my passport each time I change flights? Also, when you say "go through immigration", what exactly does that mean? Sorry to be so dense...BenAposted on Thu, Jun 6No, you will only go through immigration and security again in Amsterdam. In immigration you wait in a line to see an immigration officer, hand them a form they give you on the plane along with your passport and they might ask you some questions. Then assuming all is well they wave you through and you go through a metal detector. You will then be in the "Schengen zone" of Europe and your flight from Amsterdam to Copenhagen will be like a domestic flight in the US as both the Netherlands and Denmark are in the Schengen zone. When you check in for your flights you will also need to provide your passport number (if you check in online or at a kiosk, or hand the agent your passport if you check in at a desk). The set-up in AMS is really simple, probably the simplest major airport in Europe to make a connection at.ZAPposted on Thu, Jun 6

Here's a tip depending on which term you're flying out of at Newark you can get free Wi-Fi at McDonald's or by logging in next to a airline club such as United, American, U.S. Airways.JVposted on Wed, Jun 5

Passport validity US to JamaicaMay 31, 201310I am flying from Houston to Montego Bay, Jamaica June 20th-23rd. My passport expires in August. Some websites say passport must be valid 6 months after date of travel, and some do not mention validity. The airline (Delta) said you just need a return ticket home. Do I really need to get my passport renewed?TPposted on Thu, May 30

Connecting Flights - Help!May 12, 201310Hi, Is 40mins enough of a connection time for these flights, what will happen if i miss them, the flight itinerary was on united airs website so would book all flights with them surely they wouldn't recommend that itinerary if they didn't think we could make it there will be 2 of us and will both only have hand luggage. Also any advice of where we need to go when we land would really help so we can make sure we don't waste any time looking wee to go we are happy to un if needed just want some advice before I book. Depart Las Vegas (LAS)Sat 18th May 23:29 Flight UA1611 Arrive Chicago (ORD O'Hare) Sun 19th May 05:00 Connect time in Chicago 1hr Depart Chicago (ORD O'Hare) Sun 19th May 06:00 Flight UA6482 (operated by skywest dba united express) Arrive Washington (IAD – Dulles) Sun 19th May 08:45 Connect time in Washington 40mins Depart Washington (IAD – Dulles)Sun 19th May 09:25 Flight UA4 Arrive London (LHR – Heathrow) Sun 19th May 21:55 May thanks, SophieSophiePposted on Sun, May 12You can easily make a 1 hour connection at 5 AM at ORD. The day flight LHR-IAD usually has a lot of connections from ORD on it so it usually waits for the 6 AM ORD-IAD flight if it's late. However that flight is usually not late since it is also so early in the morning. If for some reason you miss your connection in ORD you will be booked on one of the evening ORD-LHR flights. If you miss your connection in IAD you will be booked on one of the evening IAD-LHR flights. In both cases you would get into London the morning of the 20th.ZAPposted on Sun, May 12

Terminal 4 to Terminal 8 ConnectionMay 10, 201310I would just like to know what the procedure is when getting a connecting flight at JFK. We are actually flying from OR Tambo (Johannesburg ) to Heathrow (London) to JFK (New York) to Luiz Munoz (San Juan). We are arriving on 17 May at 12:15 on an International flight on Virgin Atlantic at Terminal 4 and are then connecting at 14:30 on a Domestic flight on American Airways at Terminal 8. According to the Travel agent "the Airline sells the connection as good connection" which means I cannot change it and that they believe that it is enough time. I believe the process is as follows: When arriving at JFK collect bags Find and go thru Customs After customs there is a baggage carousel that I need to place my bags on that will take it to my destination (provided that they checked it all the way thru at OR Tambo (Johannesburg)) – Is this correct or do I need to take it with me Find and get on a AirTrain to Terminal 8 Find and go to Departures At terminal 8 do I need to Check-in and get a boarding pass at American Airways Go thru to boarding gateDiverposted on Fri, May 10You should be able to re-check your bags in Terminal 4 with American before you take the Airtrain. If not just take your bags with you, since you will have to get a boarding pass from American anyway. You'll have to hurry as that's the last American flight to SJU of the day.ZAPposted on Fri, May 10
