Hi I arrive at terminal one of the Fiumicino from venice on an Al Italia flight at 530 pm. My connecting flight to new delhi is from rome is at 8 40 pm from terminal 3. Will i have enough time to pick up luggage and navigate through security to catch my 840 flight from terminal 3? Both tickets booked separately....will an automatic baggage transfer happen or i need to collect luggae?

If you purchased tickets separately you will have to transfer luggage yourself - that should be enough time for your transfer.

  • 20 hr delay in Amsterdam, do I need visa??

I will be arriving in AMS and have a 20 hr delay and I will be taking a hotel room near the airport. Do I need to pick up my luggage and also get a visa to enter Amsterdam? I am a US citizen and flying KLM throughout the entire flight.

US Citizens do not need a visa to visit the Netherlands. But yes, you will have to pick up your luggage and re-check it the next day.

I can take a flight with an hour 20 minute connection from QTO to Phoenix through IAH but it sounds a little short (we generally don't check bags) my next options is almost 4 hours. which flight would you book?

80 minutes should suffice if arrival/ departure is not a rush hours mornings/evenings.

Hi everyone, I am flying via Houston, arriving to Terminal D and changing to Terminal C. Since both are international flights do I need to go through passport control and US customs? I have about 90 minutes for change and I do not want to miss my next flight

Where are you flying from and to and what airlines are you flying? No international flights depart from Terminal C.

That is weird.. I am flying from Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) to Guatemala (United Airlines).

I will be flying from Boise ID to Cacun Mexico. The flight itinerary is..leave Boise fly to Denver have a overnight layover. Board in the morning and fly to Mexico. When I leave it's from Mexico to San Francisco and have another overnight layover. Then board in morning and arrive in Boise. Where am I supposed to stay for those layovers? Does the airport have hotels available at all hours of the night? Or do I need to find a hotel on my own? And also will my bags be removed from the plane each time ? And will I have to re-check them every time?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags and re-check both times. Yes, you will have to find a hotel or sleep on the floor at the airport.

  • 1:45 layover for IAD to BUF 11th August

the Lufthansa flight i have booked tickets from lands at Washington at 3:05pm and then, i got to board the Buffalo flight that departs at 4:50pm.. i was told that immigration at IAD takes quite long and i am not a US citizen either..Is it true? if so, what should i do for i don't want to miss my connecting flight? please help

Immigration at IAD is actually usually quite short. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time. If for some reason you do miss your connection, you will be rebooked on the next flight to Buffalo

ZAP, firstly thanks for your reply. you say i will be "rebooked on the next flight to Buffalo"..who is going to do that for me? And secondly, isn't the period of 2pm-4pm one of heavy traffic at IAD? lot of international flights landing would make overseas immigration plus customs check longer and additionally, i need to get my luggage checked-in for my connecting flight..in general, are these all possible in my 1:45 hours window or do i need to worry?

United or Lufthansa should be able to rebook you if necessary. Your amount of time is sufficient. Yes there are many international flights coming in at that time but IAD is built to handle it.

Thanks again ZAP..one last thing I noticed and wanted your advice on. The issuing airlines of my flight booking is Lufthansa but the flight is operated by United Airlines. I will land at IAD by United Airlines flight and the departure to Buffalo is also by a United flight..will this fact help me in any way by quickening up the process? Lastly, I spoke to Lufthansa folks and they said they don't rebook passengers who miss their connecting flight due to Immigration delays. Rebooking is done only if their flight arrives late and connecting flight is missed due to that delay.

Hi! I'll be arriving to ORD at 2:25pm (ANA Air from Narita) and will need to catch a UNITED flight to Washington DC (IDA) at 4:15pm. Will I need to go to immigration and claim my baggage? My travel agent told me that my baggage will be directly send to Washington DC, is it true? Will the time be enough for me to go through all of these steps?

Your travel agent is wrong. You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, and then re-check your bags with United (even though your bag will be tagged through to IAD in Tokyo you will still have to claim it to go through customs). Then you will take the ATS Train to Terminal 1, go through security, and to your departure gate. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

I found this note in ANA website: In Chicago If you are connecting from NH International flight, UA Connection Baggage Counter in Terminal 5 is also available for check-in. Can I use this?

Yes, you are supposed to drop your baggage in Terminal 5 after you clear customs. However, you still have to take the ATS Train to T1, go through security, and to your departure gate since that's where your departure gate will be.

how long i need from T1 to T3 as i dont have loggages and i have 1 hour to catch up my next flight

At FCO T1 has boarding area B, T3 has boarding areas D & H (with D & H gates) When connecting from gate to gate, follow signs to "Boarding Area". You have enough transfer time.

I made a mistake looking at my itinerary. I actually have 2 hours and 15 minutes layover in Frankfurt. Will that be enough time? And how do I ensure my luggage will transfer from Lufthansa to Aegean? Also, the 45 minute layover is in Thessaloniki Greece going to Santorini. Is that enough time? I know that is a smaller airport. Thank you so very much.

2 hrs 15 mins should be plenty of time. If you purchased your tickets together the bags will be tagged through to Santorini. Both Lufthansa and Aegean are in Star Alliance.

I am coming from the US and traveling to Thessaloniki Greece with a layover in Frankfurt. My layover time is 45 minutes. I understand Frankfurt is a huge airport and I want to make sure that is enough time. Also, will my luggage be transferred or would I need to get my luggage and check in again?? Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

You will not have to claim your luggage but that is a very tough connection since you will go through Schengen Immigration and security on your way to your departure gate.

You barely have enough time fo ryour connection. Yes, you need to go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US customs, re-check your bags with United, then take the ATS Train from Terminal 5 to Terminal 1 and go through security and to your departure gate. Just bringing a carry-on will save you a little time.

Oooo wow. Thank you so much for you reply! I really appreciate it. It really has helped. I guess I should just bring a carry on... :(

was the 2 hrs lay over in Vancouver would be enough? I'm flying from Edmonton (west-jet airlines) to Vancouver with a connecting flight (china airlines) to Taipei. Thank you in advance.

Yes, that should be enough time. Westjet and China Airlines have an Interline baggage agreement so your bags should be checked through to Taipei and all you have to do in Vancouver is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thank you zap! I actually flying to Philippines, but I have a stop over in Taipei, Do I still need to check out my baggage in Taipei or it should be going directly to Philippines?

In that case, no, I don't think you will have to claim your bags in Taipei either.

  • Is an hour layover long enough?

I had flights booked with United from Indianapolis to Beijing. My flight got changed due to the airline not having my original flight and so I was given the option to take a similar flight, but the layover is oy 59 minutes (between Dulles and going to Beijing). I'm using United for all flights so I don't need to collect baggage. Is this reasonable to get to the terminal to go to Beijing on time?

United uses midfield concourse C/D; C gates C1-30 & D gates D1-32 are connected by a walkway. you have enough transfer time.

You may also arrive at A, which is connected to C and D by the Aerotrain and mobile lounge inside security.

  • Cousin coming in tomorrow, question

So my cousin is coming from TPE tomorrow. Her next flight is to San Diego. He has around a four hour gap. We did not tell her we might met her and might go at the last minute. the question is, will she come out of the terminals, or does she have an option of staying in the terminals without coming out?

Upon arrival from Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan at SFO's International Terminal, your cousin will first go through the customs process & re-check-in bags, then proceed to the Arrivals Hall, where you can meet her/him near the information counter, and thereafter your cousin can take the Red-line of the Air Train (one flight down) to her connecting domestic terminal (T1, T2 or T3).
