Hi, I am leaving Madrid to go to Montreal, with a 7h30 layover in JFK. Will I have to pick up my bags since I am not staying in the US? Can I bring back cheese and meat product? If I don t have to pick up my bag, I would go to the city, but if I have to get them, I doubt it will be worthed... thanks

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, and go through US Customs in JFK. No, you cannot bring meat or cheese products. 7 hours is pretty marginal whether it's worth it or not to go in the city anyway as it takes 90 minutes to get into the city from JFK.

  • Is 1hr enough to make connection to DL583?

My wife and I are traveling with two young kids to make connection from DL3319 to DL583 in May, with exactly 1 hr to make connection. Will that be enough? Also, on our way back, we will have 1hr30min to make connection including US Customs/immigration. Anyone had any experience or knowledge on this one? Big thanks in advance!

Yes, both connection times should be sufficient.

  • Flying from Hong Kong to Toronto via YVR

I am flying Air Canada from Hong Kong to Toronto via YVR with 1hr 20mins layover. Is that enough time to catch the connecting flight? Do I clear customs in YVR or Toronto? Will my luggage be automatically transferred to the Toronto fight?

You will clear Canadian Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. You will have to claim your baggage, go through Canadian Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security. You should have enough time, Vancouver is a small airport by international standards and even if you miss your connection Air Canada flies almost hourly flights from Vancouver to Toronto.

Hi - we are UK citizens living in Grand Cayman, looking to fly from Cayman to Vegas via IAH, the flight has a layover time of 1hr 45 - is this sufficient? Do we have to go through customs etc? Is there anything we can do to ensure we don't miss our connection? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate which will be likely in Terminal C. There's not much you can do to impact your chances of making the connection.

I am flying from Syracuse (SYR) to Chicago (ORD) on American Airlines, then have a 35 minute layover, then from ORD to SAN.. on American Airlines.. will I have enough time.. Im not sure the terminals or any of that...

Both flights will be in Terminal 3, all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. However, it leaves very little time to spare in case your flight from Syracuse is delayed.

I am flying to Frankfurt from Cancun with a layover at IAD. My layover is 1hr 35 min. Is this enough time to make it through customs and to my flight to Frankfurt?

Assuming your tickets were purchased together that should be enough time.

Flying Toronto to Roatan through Houston with a 15 hour overnight layover. Are your bags tagged for final destination and unavailable?

You will likely have to claim them in Houston.

i have a flight booked with delta..departing from norfolk with a 36 minute layover in atl and connecting flight lands in pdx...will 36 minutes be enough time for me to make it to my connecting flight?

It is barely enough time if the first flight is on-time. All you have to do in Atlanta is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and all gates are connected inside security by the Plane Train, but there's no time to spare for any delays.

  • 7 Hour Layover in Rome

Hi, I am flying from NY to Athens and have a 7 hour layover in Rome. Is that enough time to leave the airport and get something to eat? Is there a place we can leave our luggage while we are in the city?

That's not much time. Did you purchase separate tickets or your tickets together? If together you won't even have to claim your luggage in Rome.

My tickets are together. Since I won't have to worry about claiming my luggage, will going through customers on my way back into the airport be fairly standard?

You won't go through customs on your way back into the airport as both Italy and Greece are in the Schengen Area, so you will essentially be taking a domestic flight.

I am flying from Columbus Ohio to Detroit. I land on Delta 4138 at 11:15 and I fly out of Detroit to Fort Lauderdale on Delta 2227 at 12.00 Will I have enough time to get to my next flight

Yes, that should be enough time. All Delta flights at DTW are connected inside security. You may arrive in the B or C concourse which is connected the A concourse will you depart by an underground tunnel.

  • Can I leave DFW airport during 7 hour international transit?
    Apr 2, 2015

I am flying on an international QF/AA ticket from Lexington to Sydney via Dallas and have over 7 hours layover at Dallas Fort Worth airport. Am I allowed to leave DFW airport to do a city tour? Given that my luggage will be checked through from Lexington to Sydney I am guessing this could pose a security risk and therefore I may not be able to leave?

Yes, you are allowed to leave the airport, there are no checks for people leaving the airport. However, DFW is a long way from anything worth seeing so I think you would have a much better time just buying a one day pass to the Admirals club and relaxing rather than spending $100 on taxis to sit in a lot of traffic and see not much.
